So on vacation from San Diego Ca. Family lives here so was invited by an Aunt for us to have dinner. So only been one other time until now. She says it's good. So we came in on Friday the 17th of July. My wife and I with my Aunt and a cousin. I got the brisket plate not bad, but expected more than 4 paper thin slices of brisket and let me be clear money for the food I got not what I expected. The money is not the issue , but the family had sandwiches, and I left thinking wow what a disappointment. I have had lots of brisket and it was never like what I was served. So not sure if I would recommend this unless you just want a little snack. I grew up in Madisonville and try to shop and do stuff here, but next time will make the trip to Owensboro. read more

Found this place while traveling, trusting fellow Yelp reviews you generally can't go wrong with a 4 star community average. We were greeted immediately upon entrance and began ordering away . They have daily specials but I had to go for my favorite - brisket platter - and I was pleasantly surprised. Baked beans and accompanying potato salad were both solid. The brisket is served sauced which I found delicious but FYI for those customers looking for a more natural flavor, you'll have to request they hold the sauce. We love Brothers! There was a restaurant in Central City for a bit and we loved how close to home it was. However, they closed and the one in Madisonville we eat at from time to time. It has good taste but sometimes the prices are a bit steep for the amount of food that you actually get. Overall it is a pretty decent BBQ place. read more

I have been wanting to explore Madisonville and this BBQ joint was the first place to try. Brother's is located in a shopping center and on a Saturday morning at 11am, it was very sleepy. When you walk in, you order at the counter. I usually go for the combo plate but it was $25 and I was eating early supper so I passed. I went with pork plate. I have to learn to tell myself to look over the whole menu because some places like Brother's offer premium sides. The pulled pork with a sweet tea and tax was $18 something. I felt like there was enough pork but the sides could have had bigger portions for that price. The pulled pork was enjoyable but not elite. The slaw was creamy and lightly sweet. The potato salad had celery in it which I hate. I asked if I could have another side and asked for beans instead. They were gracious and gave me another side. The beans had a sweet taste. The best part of the meal to me was the sweet tea. It doesn't get better than the fresh brewed cold sweet taste of it! There are 3 sauces. Only the mild and rib are on the table but the hot is the superior sauce in my opinion. The hot isn't that hot to me...maybe a 3 out of 10 on the heat but it has a peppery taste to it. It reminds me of a Texas style BBQ sauce. The mild seems to be like a honey mustard type and the rib was midly sweet and bold. Overall, it was pretty good and a solid four. The atmosphere is a little dull with no TVs and only Christian music playing. The place looks kind of fancy. But anyway based on my meal today, you can find satisfaction here. read more

We saw a review from a few years ago from a manager stating they had gluten free options and what to eat/avoid. We ate there last weekend and I can without a doubt say there is a lack of understanding on what gluten free is. I would steer clear if you need gluten free. Unfortunately, the employees to include the on duty manager were not aware of what items did or did not include gluten (despite saying they did while ordering). They stated the brisket basket and sides were gluten free then sent it out with a large piece of toast on top. The manager apologized and admitted she didn't know that was considered gluten. I had the 3 meat combo with green beans and baked beans as sides. Overall, the green beans were the best part as the "liqueur" was well seasoned. The baked beans were ok, but a little heavy on the green pepper flavor for me and not as sweet as I usually like. The thigh and leg of the half chicken were good, but the breast was very dry. The ribs were tender, but tasted like there was no rub or seasoning on them. However, the rib sauce provided was pretty good. It all depends on if you like your ribs wet or dry. The pork was by far my least favorite. It was chopped / minced so fine, then mixed with their mild (mustard based?) bbq sauce, that all texture was lost and it was just mushy. The option of adding a couple of pickle chips and raw onion helped to add a some texture when eating them together with the pork. You order at the counter, find a seat and they bring you your food. Service wise, the young lady working the counter was nice. When the food came, there was zero interaction from the woman that dropped it off. The entree plate was china, the sides were styrofoam. They were bussing consistently, so the tables were clean. The restroom was also clean. In the end, I enjoyed parts of the meal, but, overall, it didn't really align with my palate. read more

For a barbecue restaurant, my favorite dish is the fish sandwich. The fish is twice as large as the bun. Steaks are also very good.

The don't have beef brisket and I understand the sky rocketing prices but the pork they served is not barbecue. The fish is also bad. It tasted like it had been thawed and frozen again several times. After a long day of moving, we were all starving! Brothers BBQ was the first thing that came up when looking for a place with outdoor pet friendly seating. The staff was friendly and the inside was very clean! We ordered the Pork & Rack pack (1 rack of ribs, 1 lb pork, 4 pint size sides, rolls for $60) which says it feeds 6-8, in our case it fed 5 very hungry adults The slaw, Mac n cheese, and baked beans were good. They weren't anything super special or different from what you'd find at most BBQ places, but that sweet potato casserole wow. The pork was good but the ribs were absolutely out of this world! Honestly the whole meal pales in comparison to those ribs, they were huge, had a great smoked flavor, and fell off the bone. My sister also ordered the 12 piece wings, as you can tell they are a little smaller than ones you'd find at a chain wing restaurant, but the mild sauce that came with them was fantastic! A very clean and comfortable dining experience. The St Louis style ribs were large, meaty and very tender. The rib plate comes with two sides. I routinely choose the baked beans and cole slaw and both were good. The side portions were on the small side but adequate and tasty. The wings were flavorful with a generous portion of very chunky blue cheese dressing however, the wings were very small. Each table had squeeze bottles of two flavors of BBQ sauce for ample added flavor that I always appreciate. One called their RIB sauce, was very nice on the ribs that provided that expected red BBQ tomato pepper flavor. The other sauce directed more toward the pork or possibly the chicken was a delicious mustard honey mix that I will use next time when i will likely try the pulled pork and /or chicken. Upside includes the clean comfortable interior, plenty of sauce for delicious added flavor, and the plentiful tender meat on each rib. The 1/2 smoked chicken was moist and hot and also had a good flavor - tried mild sauce and also tried rib sauce on it - both tasted good but mild was better. The Beef Brisket was hot and delicious and had a great flavor. The 3 Ribs were fall off the bone good and the rib sauce accentuated them even more. Baked beans were homemade and a nice flavor - not overpowering. The dinner roll was hot and fresh not dry and hard. The sweet tea was steeped for just right flavor and not excessively sweet. We were in town on a short trip and drop off. I asked the gentleman at the airport what they recommended and they sent us to brothers. Service was fantastic. From the front counter ordering, to the continual request to refill drinks or any additional items. The owner came by and we had a sincere "hope everything's going well "talk. I had the pork plate with three additional ribs as did my partner in crime. Ribs were delicious a little crunchy in spots, but that's how I like them. The pork was very moist and had a decent flavor. Coleslaw and beans sides were above average. As a sidenote they play Christian music on the radio station there. I'm a Christian and I enjoyed it. It felt extremely clean and welcoming. I tried the shredded chicken sandwich and my friend had the pulled pork. Both meats were nicely smoked. Sauce was on the side as it should be. Sweet with a little bit of heat, the sauce was satisfying. The sides were good, if unremarkable. There is only so much you can do with French fries and slaw.
