Back when I wrote my first review, in the good, old days of 2012, I lived on the same street as Old Town and it was easy to get to and had wine that I liked in my preferred price range (so...sweet, white and cheap...just like me! Hey-ooo! :-P) Now, I will regularly go out of my way to make a stop at Old Town. And these days it is primarily for their top notch beer selection! I am always prepared for the cold when I visit Old Town now, because I know I am going to be perusing the beer cave for quite some time. They rank among the top four places in Louisville I excitedly go to, in order to explore special, hard to find, interesting, sought after beer. Even if I am not looking for something specific, I am going to find something I already like if not something that piques my interest enough to try! The biggest plus of a visit to Old Town, aside from the friendly and helpful staff, is that you can buy just about all the beer options as SINGLES. This is huge. This changed my beer-drinking life. I have been able to try so many more beers because of this. When you aren't roped in to buying a four (or more) pack and the beer is 'fancy' and costs $5 or more per beer....doors suddenly open up! Old Town is in the middle of the Highlands, so parking can be tricky. They have a few dedicated parking spaces as well as a drive-thru (if you know exactly what you want) but beyond that it is going to be street parking. They still carry a great selection of wine and liquor, as well as some snack type things (thing cheese and crackers and chocolates). You should absolutely pay a visit to Old Town Wine and Spirits. Excellent place! I was excited to find their wine that I use in punch was available at this location. I don't have to go over the river and through the woods to Oliver Winery to get this, I can just go about a mile from my home. This is marvelous. Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus. No, B Rad, they don't sell mud. They do have a great selection of wines for where we're at. This isn't total wine, this isn't a big box store. Some dude and his family run this place and I've only ever seen the family running it (it is right by my gym) so previous problems that people have had with employees have cleared up because now it is straight up mom and pop. I can get behind a mom and pop all day and the part of the night I'm not sprawled on Karen's basement floor wondering why Anderson Cooper doesn't call me back. Why does this place get four stars instead of three? They had a huge selection (compared to the size of the store) of local wines and beer. I think that's wonderful. I haven't fallen in love with any of the local beers or near local beers BUT I know my friends have and now I know where to get some before going to their homes. I also know that supporting local businesses is good for everyone. If you want Bud Light you need to reexamine your life choices and also: go to Walmart. If it is Garbage de Blanc you're looking for they have it AND in the vintage you prefer. If you're a grown up and looking to drown your sorrows in quality then this is your jam. I would recommend this to any of my friends but they're all average to above average to amazing people and none of them live in BC. If you find yourself lollygagging around the store, odds are you're going to bump into someone/something and no one is going to be happy about it. There's, likely, a rhyme and reason to the organization but I didn't discern it. That means that you shouldn't come here if you're looking for the perfect bottle but you're short on time. Come here, when you have a second to wander (not, lollygag) and explore the options. Again, not a big space but there's a nice quantity and selection if you take the time to look for it. The folks at the counter are helpful but they're busy. If you need something, you may have to wait for a bit. Know this. If they ask you if you need help, say yes. You won't get asked again. This isn't an issue of being rude. It's an issue of having stuff to do. They keep it moving. I dig that. I tend to enjoy a relaxed (lollygagged) booze shopping experience, so SSBS will probably never be my go-to, but it's not at all a bad place to shop. But I wanted to see if there was a different flavor that I might like, so I parked at went inside. It is fine enough and you will find, if not what you are looking for...at least something close enough. No, it probably doesn't have the lowest prices. There isn't much competition in the area.
