Before coming here I had no idea what a kolache was, but I am hooked. I love how they have multiple savory and sweet options. It was super tasty. I got the chorizo and egg, and jalapeño something one. I like savory so both were delicious. A little on the pricy side for a baked item, but worth it as a treat to yourself every now and then. I liked the many drink options as well. The people working there were nice and friendly. Location is convenient, not far from the G. There is some seating in the front and if you go to the back (which looks hidden) there is more seating. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded, ambience is quiet. COVID-19 update: recently came by to grab some kolaches to go! Their cafe is closed but they have a takeout window. We stopped by in the afternoon and a bunch of things had sold out, but ended up getting the sweet cheese, sausage/egg/jalapeno (still the best), and the coconut kolache and eating them in the park. The sweet cheese wasn't doing it for me, but I was surprised by how much I liked the coconut one! Not too sweet, and the dough is just perfectly pillowy and moist. I've never had a kolache before, but there's a first for everything! I went the simple route and ordered a sweet cheese kolache and an iced coffee. Both were surprisingly good and went perfectly together. The sweet cheese kolache is similar to a cheese danish but instead of the croissant-like dough, the baked sweet cheese sits in a fresh bun. Typically, I like my pastries warmed up, but the kolache was so fresh and fragrant that I didn't mind it being room temperature. A Strong 4....Yes I have to agree that I found Houston to be a sprawling, garish, boiling nightmare, a mega church/drive thru liquor & gun store/all you can eat buffet suburban/city mashup that makes LA seem like Paris in comparison. The fact that the only time I ever visited was in a blazing hot August probably didnt make things easier on me. However, there is also something perversely cool about the town and it has some things going for it that no one can deny. Besides boasting a hip hop legacy of monolithic status, the place has some serious cuisine going on a a culinary footprint that could go toe to toe with most any other city in the nation. In addition to tasting among the best and most distinct types of Mexican & BBQ I've ever tried, I was also taken for breakfast by my relocated friend to an establishment serving these pesky little fellas, Kolaches. Originally brought by Czech settlers in Texas, these pastries have not surprisingly mutated into something utterly and completely Texan. For evidence of this look no further than the ingredients they are commonly filled with like smoked beef sausage with cheddar & jalapeño, eggs with cheese and chorizo and the like. The savory ones here match up almost exactly to my memory of the ones I tried there except that the dough on these was slightly more bready, less pastry-like then the Houston ones (I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the particular establishment). They are still a very tasty, very filling & obviously dangerous breakfast. They also served some sweet Kolaches filled with ingredients like Apricot, Strawberry, & blackberry. I hadnt seen these bad boys at all in Houston and was informed that they are indeed not common there, but are found regularly in Austin, where conversely savory Kolaches are out of the norm. Gotta love those regional variations! The ones I sampled, the Cherry w/Sweet Cheese &, even better, PB&J, wound up being just as delicious as the others in a completely different way. I haven't had a chance to try the breakfast tacos yet, but frankly having those here, at least without sampling most if not all of the Kolaches first, would seem a little bit like missing the point. Coffee is good, space is airy, open, and really nice in a shabby chic, DIY way, fitting its location. Indeed it is a trailblazer on the block and a great asset to the many residents of this immediate neighborhood, which is definitely blowing up fast (@ least in terms of real estate prices). The residents seem to be very appreciative and have quickly made the place into a neighborhood gathering spot to hang and/or work the day away, particularly in the real nice back garden. Deceptively small from the outside. Nice cozy indoor space. The outdoor seating is lovely, with morning glory rioting over the walls. I grew up with a grandmother that made kolaches. The one I was served here was so perfect I was whisked back to childhood. Tart cherry and sweet cheese surrounded by a cloud of fluffy dough heaven. The Good Morning Latte was also a delight. I'll be in the area so my 1st stop for this side of Brooklyn today was to try the Kolache pastry shop. I've always wanted to try this spot & saw the reviews before going. The shop is small cozy, has seating inside & outside. No one has described what I am going to say. I must have been reading an old menu & prices have sure risen. I ordered the Blueberry Sweet Cheese Kolache and pulled out my $4. The menu I saw said $3.50. The price is $4.50 + tax which came to $4.95. I was asked if I wanted anything else. Honestly I couldn't afford a second one. The coffee is expensive also. I was startled the item is smaller than what I expected. It's perfect for a small child, where's the adult size portions ? The length & width is 3.5 x 3.5 with a one inch baked cake filling of dough. Topped with 1 tablespoon, half & half next to each other of blueberries & sweet cheese. The pastry can fit in the cup portion palm of your hand, nowhere near your fingers. Extending the baked items to a larger size would be perfect for the expensive price charged. At least two for one would be well worth the price. Or a full hands length of the baked item. The taste was very nice, just a few bites and it's gone. It's the small size of the Kolache for the amount of money charged that got me. The decorative pouch bag is a plus. read more

Loveeee this place. I had never had kolache before so I wasn't even sure what it was honestly. But I looked at some Yelp photos and headed over to see what was what. The first time I went, I got the cherry + sweet cheese. It was good, reminded me of a danish with the particular flavor I chose. I wasn't suuuuper wowed by the filling but the pastry itself was delish! The next time I went, I wanted breakfast so I got the sausage and cheese with a side of spicy mustard. They offered to warm it up and I definitely recommend you do that. OH EM GEEEEEE. It's a (better version of a) hotdog inside of the kolache pastry. The spicy mustard was also soooo yummy - it was zingy and helped lighten the "heaviness" of eating meat, cheese, and carbs. After that, it became my go-to! Every time I go, I have to get a sausage and cheese. They offer spicy mustard and hot sauce. Get both. They work great with the kolache! The other thing I LOVE about this place is their coffee. They have decaf espresso AND oat milk!! I always get a Good Morning Latte, decaf, half the sugar. It is perfection every time and they use Oatly Barista Edition Oat Milk (which is STILL sold out online so happy they serve it here!). After checking out Yelp, I ended up trying the Love Dip as well cus it's listed as the staff fave. IT'S SO GOOD. It's an "everything" kolache with a savory cream cheese dip filling. It's SOOOO good and, not having a good bagel place nearby, this scratched that itch for sure! Anyway, they also have a ton of seating both in the front of the cafe, in the very light-filled back room, AND a patio! One of my favorite neighborhood spots! There's a kolache place in my hometown, so this is like having a bit of home in Brooklyn. They're currently pick up and delivery only. You can order ahead in their website (highly recommend), or you can order at the window. You order at one window, and pick up at the other. Social distancing is enforced, and masked are required. They've all been super friendly and wonderful through all of this!! When you can finally get back inside, make sure you check it out! They have The Golden Girls art on the wall (my favorite show, so of course this gets them major points), and they have a back room and patio where you can sit and work. read more

Great place all around. They have seating both in the front of the shop and in the back where you're likely to find more people on their laptops or reading. They even have a garden area out back that's perfect for the late spring and summer months. You have to try the jalapeño sausage and cheese kolache. It's great with a little mustard and hot sauce (if you like it hot) here and there. If you're in the mood for something sweeter, I'd say the cherry and cheese is my favorite. Something extra sweet? This was my second time coming to this place and I think I enjoyed it more sitting down . Me and mom wanted something quick to bite so I'm like this is the perfect place. We had the sweet cheese/ pumpkin , turkey egg and cheese, and the beef one I'm not too sure what it was called . I think Texas beef one . I also had the Good morning latte . The kolache were warm and gooey and delicious . I liked the turkey egg and cheese one more than the pumpkin sweet cheese . The pumpkin was a bit bitter which I didn't care for but all in all it wasn't bad . I really really enjoyed my latte . It was made with oat milk and espresso and it was creamy and reminded me a little of Avena which is a creamy oatmeal beverage . It's delicious so I loved the latte and I had some hot sauce with my savory kolache and it was delish . I think it gave it that kick ! The decor was beautiful and super chill which I like . I will def be back . The customer service was good . I like the girl who makes the coffee and she says your coffee name . She says it so pleasant lol but it's really cool here . These kolaches are legit, and as a Southeast Texan, I consider myself an expert and a huge fan. The photos don't do the dough justice: they look dry but are actually very moist and flavorful. The fillings are also delicious, and I can vouch that the sausage, jalapeño, and cheese is the authentic South Texas-Czech kolache flavor palette. Consistently inconsistent- from service to the drinks I keep coming back, but probably wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't have the opportunity to have a few chances there. Most of the staff is very friendly, but might not have the best knowledge when making drinks- this has been the main category for inconsistencies- maybe the chai has barely any chai or the cappuccino is burning. I've gotten wrong orders before and barely filled kolaches (when usually they are a great ratio), but I like the place. I like that Kolache is their sole dedication and there is really a lot of space and a nice overall vibe. I'm sure the kolaches are delicious, but I took one bite of my chocolate kolache to find peanut butter inside and all around it. I am allergic to peanuts, thankfully not in a deadly one-bite way, but eating my kolache would be enough to give me an allergic reaction. I went to get a refund and was told if there was peanut butter on my kolache, it was because they're stored next to the peanut butter chocolate ones. This should not be the case. I had a bad experience at your cafe where I felt duped after spending $25 on food and drink and being told the wifi can't be turned on, as if I should have expected that one sign that says FREE WIFI might be contradicted by another, more important sign. Yes I know it's a bit silly to write an update only a month later, but whatever. They have since expanded their hours which is great! I recently stopped back in with 2 co-workers who happen to be Houston natives and both were squealing in excitement when I told them there was a cute little cafe in Bed-Stuy that served these Texan treats. They each had the smoked beef sausage, jalapeño, and cheese kolache, and said that not only were the kolaches were as good as the ones they ate growing up in Texas, but these were better. They each went back for more food after our initial purchase because we couldn't resist. I got a blueberry and cheese (one of these days I'm going to get another flavor), one got a cherry kolache which was fantastic, and we also got the breakfast tacos with hashbrown and egg. The hashbrown tacos were pretty good but I think we got them because we just wanted a side of hashbrowns. I like that they have breakfast tacos because they are a lot lighter than kolaches, and while I could certainly have 2 kolaches, one kolache and a taco is probably a smarter choice if I don't want to feel absolutely stuffed for the rest of the day. I had never been there this early in the day so I was glad I got to see so many flavors available. I had never seen any sweet kolaches with fruits other than blueberry or cherry, but they also had apricot and lemon ones. I saved my blueberry kolache for breakfast the next day and it held up really well. So anyways, just wanted to add the stamp of approval of 2 actual Texans! I'm glad Brooklyn Kolache Company exceeded their expectations and I know I have 2 friends willing to travel a bit to come stuff our faces with Kolaches. **side note - I happened to be teaching later than day, so I had sheet music with me. My ex lived right by here and at first I ignored this little cafe because it has been so many other establishments prior. One day I went in and tried their chocolate bun (kolache) and it was HEAVENLY. The chocolate is rich and the bun is nice and soft. Besides that I have had their soy chai latte, which is also good.
