He is a SURGICAL dermatologist, and, like my brother, an MD/PhD graduate of Stanford University. Pantalena has extensive Mohs certification--seriously, look this up if you don't know what it is. Dr. Pantalena took one look at my bumpy eye and said, "Sure, no problem." He was cautious and calm, and his support staff is very professional. He also removed a benign lesion from my nose...and two months later, the incision is virtually invisible. The only reason Dr. Pantalena does not get five stars is that his Beacon Health office is NOT LATEX FREE. They accommodated my sensitivity, but I believe that dermatology offices should strive to be latex-free environments.

She finally did a biopsy and it turned out to be basal cell carcinoma. I'm very disturbed by the fact that it was ignored for two years before action was taken. Now I have another basal cell carcinoma on my chest that needs to be taken care of. Their solution was to do an excision surgery. While looking for alternatives, I found image guided SRT which is less invasive and equally as successful. I called the office to find out if they offered image guided SRT. The receptionist was very rude and condescending. I'm looking for a new dermatologist office.

Also, when I left, there were two staff sitting at the front desk who went on with their conversation while I waited (I don't know and don't care if it was business related, they should have stopped and took care of their patient). Medical Assistant: She was obviously new but sweet and helpful. Didn't know everything yet but she wasn't afraid to ask questions, down to the spelling of drugs and infections. PA: She was great. Knew what she was doing. She took the biopsy from the top of my foot. One of the easiest things I've ever had done. Dr. Messenger, Jr: Very nice young doctor. Introduced himself and his PA when they came in. Calls himself Dr. Jeff. I liked that he was personable. He couldn't give a definite diagnosis without the biopsy but gave me three possibilities. He had the PA take the biopsy but he supervised it and assisted her. All in all, I would recommend this practice. My appointment was timely and I'm known for walking out on doctors who make me wait with no explanation. Just a suggestion: your website is awful. It needs to be reworked and made secure.

When they said I was done, I stood by the exit window to get my stitches scheduled for removal, and the only gal at the office was too damn busy to even acknowledge me standing there and never came over to the point where I had to leave and I had to call back to schedule my second appointment.

You never see a doctor. In case you have a problem for which you are instructed to call immediately, you leave a message and it won't be returned timely. I ended up going to the ER to address the severe pain problem; I later was told Dermatology Center doesn't prescribe pain pills. Then told me to take Ibuprofen but I can't take NSAIDs so they didn't check my chart. I have a big crater left by the procedure so can't go anywhere else to finish the process. The procedure was done in Battle Creek office. Two biopsy's had to be done in Kazoo because the first was too shallow and gave an incorrect result.

Finally I called West Michigan Dermatology and set up an appointment. Although they are booked out quite far (we called in November and she got an appointment in March) I must say the wait was so worth it. She saw Dr. Strikwerda for her first appointment. She was completely nice and knowledgeable about my daughters condition and gave us a few options on how to take this thing on head on. She informed us some options work better than others but each person responds differently. She gave my daughter a treatment in the office and switched her medication. After a year of watching my daughter suffer and be in pain from this condition, just one day after seeing Dr. Strikwerda, she had some relief. The inflammation decreased and for the first time she wasn't in pain. While we know this is just the first step in a long road ahead I am so appreciative of just that one visit. After a year of her suffering just to see her almost back to herself was wonderful. Thank you West Michigan Dermatology and Dr. Strikwerda. I'd definitely recommend you to anyone that asks.
