But don't bring any steel cased ammo, they do check to make sure only brass is used and no "armor piercing" type ammo, that's no green-tip M855 for all you AR shooters. Great hourly rate, targets are cheap, and motorized target lanes make for quick placement and not having to wait to clear all lanes before trying to replace a chewed up target. Brooms and bins to police up your brass and some peace officer discounts. Heated and cooled building with coffee and snacks, cases, supplies, shirts, and cleaning products too, finally a place that has it all.

Full club house with bar and kitchen including twice monthly Friday fish frys, 6 Trap fields (open to the public), 2 stocked fishing lakes, brand new 20-lane covered rifle/pistol range (members and guests only), archery and a pro shop--ALL for the astoundingly low membership dues of $125 a year, family included. Need I say more? Okay, let me mention that the Thursday League Night burgers, fries and deep-fried mushrooms are delicious! EGC has the claim of being the oldest continuously chartered gun club in the USA (since 1879). Whether there's a private club somewhere in the original 13 colonies that can beat that claim, I'm not sure, nor do I care. EGC has none of the pretentiousness that usually accompanies a "private club". In fact, they welcome the public on weekends and guests of members are always welcome. A "round" of trap costs about $5 for non-members which includes your 25 clay birdies. Ammo available for sale or bring your own--(shot heavier than 7.5 prohibited). They were pretty busy I'm sure with owners buying bullets for the occasion lol. They teach you all the basics and turn you loose essentially. You can purchase safety equipment or rent theirs to use to shoot. They give you the instructions for how to switch the guns out and the little paper and a lane number. It was very very exciting even for a beginner. Guns are super freaking powerful and I prayed that I didn't start the new year out without my damn front teeth (I've watched too many epic failures on social media). But I did really good. We shot a 9MM and a 45. Both was amazing but the 45 is too much gun for me.

When I saw the abbreviation CCW, I thought, "hmm..now what airport does that stand for? Connecticut?" I joined a Well Armed Women class for a night with a friend, mostly on a whim, mostly because I was free, not really thinking that the night would actually come. Well, there we were, pulling up to Gateway Gun Club, watching a group of about 5 young boys systematically shoot little frisbees out of the sky (yeah, I know, they're called Skeet). The little fellas seemed to know what they were doing! They were methodical and not one of them swung the gun around or poked his eye out. We walked into the Club and were greeted by two lovely ladies who immediately put my nerves at ease. For the next hour we learned some basics regarding types of guns, ammunition and gun safety. We even talked to a real, live policeman! Then, we shot .22s. Yikes stripes. Pretty powerful. Again, the staff followed us into the indoor range and were helpful, but also firm in their insistence on the rules of safety. It was incredibly reassuring. I'm not sure I'll sling on a holster or buy my own "Sweetness" (does anyone watch Colbert?), but it was an empowering, totally rad new experience. Thanks GGC and WAW.

He's retired army reserve and has an excellent reputation for teaching all things related to firearms. My wife and I needed to blow off some steam this morning and decided to check this place out…read more Walking in the door, it reminded my wife of growing up in Alaska. Dead animals and weapons everywhere! Actually, they have a very impressive collection of firearms. We emptied a few boxes downrange and went out to pay. The owner had heard I had a few FTF while on the range, and asked to look at our pistol. Then he cleaned it, polished the feed ramp, oiled it, and handed it back to me. No charge. We talked some defensive ammo, and actually picked up a box of 9mm he recommended. The atmosphere is very laid back and family oriented, not heavily structured like a lot of ranges. Tony, the owner, was incredibly accommodating and easy going. He introduced his mother and his daughter whom both work for him, and they promised to keep a pot of coffee going for when we come back, which we will. I cant recommend this place enough. Everyone should give it a shot.
