I recalculated my gas for the past year and saw they'd overcharged me by £1000 ! They admitted by email they owed me the money and promised to refund me. waited 34 days so far and still not received the refund, despite them saying 4 times by phone and 6 times by email that they will put it in my bank. so next week I'll take a day off work and go to their head offices. liars and fraudulent actions! read more

I have made many compliants over the phone and even emailed them about the disgraceful Customer Service received to-date. I have been without any heating or hot water in my property for last 4 days. I have phoned them 15-20 times in last few days, spoken to many different customer advisors in there home services team based in Cardiff, who keep telling me, we have dispatched a Heating engineer, he will arrive very shortly at your home, to sort out no heating and hot water issues. LIES! Just before christmas I spoke to someone in the customer service department. I called at 9a.m. on the 14, after 44 minutes I spoke to someone, I mentioned that the rebate of £67 which had not gone on to my smart meter, the last two months it had gone within the first two days of the month, I was told oh yes I can see we tried to put it on twice in within the first couple of days, and it failed, and a voucher was sent out, he also told me, I would have to get the voucher, even though I no direct access to it, he said if it hasn't arrived by Friday call back Saturday, guess what offices are closed Saturday. the following week i eventually got through after 1hr 45 mins, only to be told the total opposite, the £67 had not been put on yet, which was confirmed a day or two later, by it showing up on my smart meter. So basically the first person I spoke to lied to me by saying they tried to load it, and a voucher had been sent out, he also said he would load £20 to my meter and that I will have to pay it back, under the circumstances that I was lied to, by one of your call centre staff, I think he should be fired, and I should be compensated for being lied to, and that I should not have to pay back the £20, he put on my meter under false pretences. Awful dreadful experience and still not resolved they merged my gas and electric in June but still have not token a payment so I am very anxious as getting into debt I have spent days on the phone and told sorted but never is Now I see my electroc is on standard variable when before I was on a fixed rate until November 2023 My gas is still not set up from June I am a single working parent with only one salary The stress and sleepless nights and anxiety are unbearable and again I will have to try and sort tomorrow as well as work and children - so poor it is making me Ill read more

No I've downgraded my star rating. In 2014 I called Able to service my boiler and it was in bad repair. It could be due to the age of the boiler but British Gas had serviced it the year before. The one redeeming feature of British Gas Homecare was they told me I had to call the Fire Brigade when a leak from the flat above me put my electrics out and the council were dithering. I'll use the boiler's manufacturer, Vaillant to service my boiler next time read more

I have been trying to deal with them concerning my mum who recently passed away. It has been a disgrace. Half an hour on phone - got nowhere. Frustrating useless automated phone system which wound me up no end. Went round and round in circles. Didn't seem interested when o tried to complain. Got a man who hung up on me. Tried emailing complaints asking to ring me - they just tried to draw me into emails back and forth refusing to ring me. They have caused me undue stress when I can least do with it. read more

Been a British Gas Homecare customer for over 31 years. Their recent service has been abominable. I have had at least 26, yes 26, visits in less than 15 months. They came out just before Christmas because my hot water was scaldingly hot and replaced the motorised valve. It has happened again within 6 weeks. Rang them yesterday, 2/2/19, and they said an engineer would come out today between 1200 and 1700 - guaranteed. Before 1700 they rang to say the visit would be delayed for a few hours then rang again to say up to 2200 hours. In mid evening, an engineere called and said he wouldn't be coming out because he didn't consider it urgent enough despite having had several guarantees that someone would come out today. Have rung them many times since and they aren't bothered. One time, I was told they would come out overnight but they have regeged on that as well and it will now be between 0800 and 1000 tomorrow, 4/2. I have just been diagnosed with a heart condition and the stress is literally killing me but British Gas don't care a jot. The engineer, callled Gordon, for the Lincoln area, LN6, who rang is a disgrace and should be sacked. Because of my condition I was due to go away for a week's rest but can't now because it is too late - all thanks to British Gas so I have lost money on that plus extra stress. They are are a shabby, shoddy, uncaring bunch of liars. All they are interested in is taking your money. I have BG Home care have done for 8 years first time call out week before xmas and told need new exchange unit. Came to fit it and did not seal pipes flooded my house. 2nd eng came to fix it broke the front panel on boiler and blew electrics. 3rd eng came to service it not to fix it. 4th eng tried to fix it but broke it even more and said he would order parts. 5th eng said no parts had been ordered and fixed it by applying black gaffer tape to it. 6th eng was very apologetic tried his best got it all working and said he couldn't get the parts to fix it. Raised an official complaint told will contact me in 48hrs. A week later and no contact was made so I rang them back and was told I will defiantly be contacted within the next day. That was a week and 1/2 ago. Just rang again and they still had not processed my complaint. Please do not use British Gas customer service worst I ever experienced. Engineers Skill very Poor. Complete waste of money. So from a Boiler that was not working the central heating to a complete mess and completely broken boiler all over Xmas. read more

I joined up to British Gas Homecare with a £50 excess for repairs after I bought my council flat. The first service of my boiler was very efficient, they repaired a leak satisfactorily but did try to sell me unnecessary safety equipment such as carbon monoxide alarms which I refused. The next year they came to service my boiler and messed it up. The pressure was down after the engineer's visit, no hot water and when I tried to increase the pressure by turning valves water overflowed the pipe on my balcony. Upon calling their call centre, I received a computer says no answer and was told I'd be charged £50 to receive an engineer to fix it. Annoyed, I wrote to the CEO of British gas and said this was not acceptable. To be fair, they took the complaint very seriously, apologised and an engineer was sent at no cost to repair the boiler to its original working order. Bit of aggravation but I was in between temporary assignments and at home anyway. The inconevenience was actually a bit of a godsend because I have cancelled my Homecare agreement which was costing over £200 per year and will just pay them for one off boiler services in future. read more

We are pensioners and creatures of habit. Our Gas usage jumped from 78p a day average to £2.06=2.91 per day.We have gas hob ( used about 30 mins per day and hot water/ central heating, heating not been used this week. Since Tuesday we have tried to get meter looked at as something clearly wrong, blood out of a stone comes to mind. Questions we were asked for reasons for hike. 1) What were you doing between 12.00 - 06.00am, What most people do SLEEP. 2) Fridge/freezer. Thought they ran on Electricity. Silly me. 3) Temperature dropped in the night. ( did not notice under duvet). We were so worried Wednesday we called the Emergency gas leak people, have to say Excellent Service from them. Luckily no leak, but he did say something was wrong with the metre. Ring British gas tomorrow and they will get it sorted. How Wrong was he.To compound the issue we have our boiler/central heating Homecare with them.I booked annual service back in August Due October 8th. Six days before 2nd Oct we get a call , told have to cancel appointment There Will Be A LOT of breakdowns in your area on Monday. Wish I had their crystal ball I could have won the lottery. They have the cheek to advertise on television boasting of 8000 engineers to care for your boilers wish a few were round here. If you are thinking of switching don't. I am still trying to work out how a smart meter saves money, all it's done for us is cost us more. read more
