When I arrived, the young lady at the counter (I bypassed the desk in the airport) was disappointed as she had planned a better vehicle for me. She was still super nice and super apologetic and so I can't blame her for my early arrival. Her English was perfect. I had my passport, drivers license and international drivers license ready. Instead of the full-size vehicle I had reserved (BMW 3-series or similar), I had a mid-size SUV. In Germany, they call it a Ford Kuga. In the US, it would be a Ford Escape. Six-speed manual with a diesel engine and some enhancements. Under 1000 km on the clock, it was in perfect condition and I really didn't mind. A quick inspection of the car for any damage, a note of the full fuel tank and I was off. It's been two years since my last manual transmission but it all came back to me just fine. It was a nice drive and quite enjoyable to be in a higher vehicle that went just as fast as I wanted to go on the autobahn. I had it up to 170 kph / 105 mph at one point and that was fine. It was returned several hours later in Stuttgart with no issues. The counter in the airport is in the usual place with arrivals. The desk in the parking deck is a little harder. Exit the airport and go left towards the air traffic control tower. Continue left. Keep continuing. There's a bridge. Take the elevator to the floor with National. There you are. From my hotel…read morehttps://www.yelp.com/biz/hotel-indigo-düsseldorf-4?hrid=WwmCwBlt8jApu48hGU088Q, there are a couple of options for getting to/from the airport. I could of course take the U-Bahn to the Hbf and from there, get the train. Or I could be a bit more adventurous and that's what we did today. Venloer Straße is a tram stop serving the 707 line, with the next stops being Marienhospital (towards Medienhafen/Kesselstraße) and Dreieck (towards Unterrathstraße). The streets in this section of Düsseldorf are quite narrow, so there isn't a proper "station" here. You'll need to keep your eye out for the street signs on the sidewalk that indicate where the tram stops. This is a rather busy semi-urban section of town with shopping and restaurants all around. Eating is not permitted on the tram but there are coffee shops nearby if you feel the need to get a boost before getting on board. There is also a public toilet at the corner of Kaiserswertherstraße and Nordstraße. There is no shelter at the tram stop. If it's raining, you may be able to stand under the awning of one of the shops. There is a timetable and a map. There is no ticket kiosk (standard for trams) -you will buy/validate your ticket on board the tram. [Review 16390 overall - 195 in Germany - 1897 of 2021.]

The hotel reception and lobby were very nice, the room was updated, simple and sparse. The service here was rather exceptional. My admin had accidentally booked a room at the Lindner in town, so when I arrive at the airport location, there was a bit of confusion. Because there are three different lines here, be sure you board the correct one! The station is on both sides of the intersection of Steinstraße and Kaiserstraße, which made me a little uncomfortable. There is almost no protection from an errant vehicle making the turn. On the plus side, the Kaiserstraße platform has an actual spot to stand and wait. The Steinstraße side is simply the sidewalk. The station is next to the Spielplatz park so you'll have some greenery to admire while you wait. There is no ticket kiosk here - you buy your ticket on the tram.
