On a beautiful day, it's not uncommon to see families, people with their dogs and couples taking a leisurely stroll or going for a run along the river. You won't catch me saying this often, but it is so beautiful that it actually makes exercise fun.

It provides awesome public access to a part of Brisbane that only the rich would get to experience otherwise. You can cycle or walk, and it's always well frequented by locals. Duncan Street, where Chinatown is located, is a pedestrian street that doesn't seem like much during the day, but at night when the lanterns are lit and the businesses open to the public is when it's prime time to check out some of what Chinatown has to offer. Festivals throughout the year are held in the Chinatown mall, and it's pretty spectacular being there for Chinese New Year which I've been lucky enough to see a few times, because you can become witness to traditional Chinese celebrations, food and festivities. There is also a lot of commercial activity in Chinatown as well, with many small businesses such as doctors, dentists, realtors and stores specifically aimed at the Chinese community in Brisbane. The street is beautiful and clean (having had a bit of help over the last few years by Brisbane City Council) and has ample street seating. If you're a fan of asian cuisine (Chinatown plays host to some great Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Malaysian restaurants too) then I highly recommend that you head to Chinatown for some great food and atmosphere.

But the walking paths going both directions and on top and beneath the bridge, make it accessible to walk over it. Definitely a must when visiting Brisbane!

Ironically, for many residents of Kangaroo Point the small ferries and CityCat boats are nowadays a more convenient ways to get to downtown than this bridge, which is part of a highway shuttling people from southern neighborhoods to the north. Best part of the Bridge, for me, is that it lights up every night, often in a specific color commemorating an event. For example, on 14/11/17 it was lit in rainbow colours in recognition of the Yes vote .

The team at Young Henry's were relaxed, passionate, and engaging, and their product is clearly made to be accessible but still great quality. The morsels provided by Hope & Anchor, although not intended to be a match, was excellent beer tasting food. The intimacy of the venue and the size of the group meant that we all got to have a chat with the YH crew, and each other, which was fantastic... and there weren't too many people to wiggle past on the way to the restrooms either. I was surprised to hear of a brewery making not just a cider, but a gin as well. As a non-gin drinker, I thought I would struggle through the taste but it was an eye-opener for me. That's the sign of a good event in my books; new venue, new friends, and new tastes. Awesome!

The guys from Young Henry's were warm and friendly, very knowledgable and had lots of interesting stories to tell. And so we weren't all drinking on an empty stomach, we also had some share plates to share off the Hope and Anchor menu, delicious! Thanks for organising, Alice!

So unless you can walk on water, the Brisbane Riverwalk just is not as functional as it used to be. Never fear however because there are still sections that are undamaged and there will be a brand new Riverwalk built in the near future. The Brisbane River really is the lifeblood of the city and having a walkway for cyclists and pedestrians was fantastic. You can check out the new design of the rebuild on the Brisbane City Council Website if you are curious as to what it will look like in the future. There is a $75 million dollar budget to rebuild the New Farm part of the Brisbane Riverwalk so hopefully they will come up with something good and flood proof for that amount.

What a good day!…read more Tucked in Gerads Lane there were many things to see, taste and the stall holders were all lovely! I walked away with a sampler pack of fruit jellies from Playing with Fire, some Thyme and Ginger beer soda Syrup from Old Fashioned Co and managed to score a signed copy of The Huxtaburger Book and a burger as made by the author and chef Daniel Wilson who was in-store at Scrumptious Reads. All in all a great day and I'd love to see more of these happen as it was really good to see and meet the faces behind some local products!

Our entrée of bruschetta was some of the best I've tasted and it was a dead heat as to who received the best main course. My gnocchi was rich and creamy without being overbearing or heavy and went nicely with the caprese salad I ordered as a side. I tasted my companions' dishes (penne puttanesca and prosciutto-wrapped pork) and both were incredibly flavoursome. We ordered a tiramisu and panna cotta from the dessert menu and thoroughly enjoyed both along with espresso shots. The restaurant is simply but beautifully decorated and Italian film and television posters adorn the walls. The ladies bathroom was very clean and spacious and perfumes were available for those needing a top-up. Overall, the experience was fantastic with the only room for improvement being the lighting, which was a little bright. I'll be making the trip to Paddington quite regularly.

It's a traditional Italian trattoria and is a wonderful little space inside the restaurant, with part of the space dominated by a very large collection of Italian (and other countries) wines, which can match any of the meals you opt for. See, this is what I love about Elite events like this one, it's the extra push to make it somewhere I've had my eye on but not quite made it to (the lure of post-exercise bubbly always helps), and we got to try out a class in an intimate environment that made it easy to relax and enjoy. Well, 'relax' is probably generous, there was definitely some core, glute, and thigh shaking and burning that reminded me we were attempting to work out and not just limbering up for the good old back bar bicep curls. The experience was different, but definitely not scary different, so I would absolutely encourage the squad to check out Brisbane Barre (and bring togs to cool off in the baths after) and any similar Yelp and Elite events in the future!

Paid parking now being instituted at Westfield Chermside has caused a lot of the traffic to spill out over into the streets, which unfortunately can limit your parking choices for Bella Cosi. The place itself however is really quite lovely, with the choice of both outdoor and indoor seating. It oozes Italian charm, with red, black, and white seats and furnishings and an Italian street scene occupying an entire wall that gives you itchy feet and makes you want to travel. There's even the odd vespa outside, which only adds more Italian charm to the place. The tea they serve is made from real leaves, no fake tea here, and their coffee is strong and smooth, just what I love and expect from a true Italian restaurant. Breakfast is a treat here, with fluffy berry pancakes served with ice cream and excellent scrambled eggs. They also crisp the bacon if you request it. Breakfast isn't a busy time at Bella Cosi, so it's a really nice place to sit back and enjoy the Italian aura without excess noise or worries. Getting in early has its benefits, including easier parking and less of a crowd.
