My initial feelings on this restaurant were thankfully misguided, I had passed it many times when getting on and off the train during the daytime and seen offers for cheap pasta/pizza daytime deals, yet wanted to take a friend out for a decent evening birthday meal.
This is a proper Italian restaurant, not just a pasta bar, which offers good food at a reasonable price.
I have now visited Brio over half a dozen times, as a couple, for family events and also for a quick solo meal before catching the train and all the meals have been excellent.
A word of warning, the proprietor/manager will try and sell the garlic and cheese dough balls one portion will serve two as an alternative to garlic bead, but you with fight over the 5th one as they are incredibly moreish but also very filling, not to mention being an excellent repellent for any vampires within a 50 mile radius.
The fish specials are not listed on the menu as they only buy whatever is on offer from the local boats, I have heard the haggling on prices a few times now while buying my rail ticket, and am still waiting for that elusive lobster to appear on the menu!
The meat specials are normally excellent and my first choice although duck breast with sultanas and marsala was a bit rich and sweet for my taste.
To my mind their pasta ragu is superior to a similar offering from Jamie Oliver's Kitchen that I have had in London, and about half the price.
In summary, good food, good service (albeit from a larger than life manager) and good prices give it a go! read more
