My wife and I came for dinner and we could not have been more disappointed. We ordered a mimosas and blackberry Mojitos to start. The mimosas were good but the blackberry mojitos just tasted like soda water. The chicken nachos were so cold it was like they just came out of the refrigerator. We ordered a pizza and a lobster roll for our meals and were shocked that the pizza was burned after an hour of waiting and the lobster roll had shells in it. With that said, our waitress Kalani was very hospitable and was the saving grace of the experience. She got us a new order of the chicken nacho appetizer and asked if we wanted our other orders remade but we were kind of over it after sitting there for 90+ minutes. Second review for my third meal here. Unfortunately the service is very inconsistent from one night to the next. Even the G+T that I ordered for the third time was different and less strong than the previous two. And the service was exceedingly slow and inattentive. I would say this is a 3 or a 4 star highly dependent on the particular evening one visits. I do not recommend the toasted cheese sandwich. The salad and the tomatoe bisque was quite good but the toasted cheese had been sitting for awhile Judging by the chewy cheese texture and rock like crust. read more

Staff was really friendly. They took their time explaining the menu. It did take them a while to come over and serve us. One of us had to get the menus. After we called their attention, it was smooth sailing. We ordered dessert and the fruit tart and blondie was good. Although the fruit tart is not what I thought. I can't stop thinking about the Crispy Miso Brussels. This mini cabbage doesn't get the appreciation it deserves. Low in calories and high in nutrients and flavor you can't go wrong ordering the Crispy Miso Brussels. It's an explosion of flavor sautéd and tossed with almonds, cilantro, pickled fresno chilis, and moody blue cheese. You can find it under the Shared Bites section but I'm not sharing. read more

Wow. I'm a foodie from Los Angeles and I am blown away. Everything we had was 10/10. I love that this is normal food, but elevated in a way that makes it elegant. I honestly didn't want to come to Bakersfield and have secretly judged it for being "boring", but we had to come on business. This bar is located inside the Padre Hotel. Brimstone Bar serves food as well. It's more of a restaurant in the day and a bar toward the afternoon. FOOD- NOTE! I've only eaten here in the early afternoon. I love brunch! This review is based on the breakfast food. The menu is small but I haven't been disappointed by anything on it. My favorite is their Chile verde breakfast burrito and the classic buttermilk pancakes. Drinks- I've only had the mimosas and they can't really mess that up. Service- Our server was great. I wish I could remember her name... maybe Madison. She made sure we had everything we needed. She kept checking and making sure our drinks were filled. In addition, I also saw children in the restaurant during the day but not during dinner hours. You might want to check, just in case your planning on having dinner with kids. read more

The bacon consisted of a few chopped pieces of bacon that tasted like it was from breakfast maybe one piece chopped. The smoked cheddar had little to no smoke. Somebody may have walked past a smoker with the cheese in their pocket. I had to look for the cheese sauce. The chives were actual scallions and not chives. If going there do not get this. The food quality was fair and fresh 4 out of five. My negatives were there were not alot of ppl here eating or drinking.during the day so the servers would just stand huddled up in the corner staring watching you eat and talk crap about whoever walked in, very unprofessional and to top it off I paid cash for my meal and my server did not return my change and was looking half retarded when I called her out, I guess she felt she deserved that 7 dollar tip lol the sad thing was I would have added another 3 dollars to it to make it 10 but no B!tcH no you didn't even try and pretend to return my change 5 dollars you get honey lol Overall it was cool I would eat here and watch the game again. read more

We had a better experience here this time around... even though I thought we would never come back... Sitting at the bar was a great idea. Ordered drinks and were able to look over the menu. We opted for a veggie salad with salmon added as well as the hummus plate. Both were good. Not great but good. The salad for an extra $6 could have had a better portion of fish. I would have loved to have seen more items on special. Service at first was slow-going but once conversation started flowing with the bartender, it was smooth sailing. The drinks are fine and the beer is cold! Just at a loss of where to go downtown in Bakersfield. I am sure we will return here due to lack of choice. read more

My boyfriend and I frequent this place whether it's for brunch, dinner,or just drinks, and we always receive exceptional service. The atmosphere is welcoming wether you sit at the bar or in the general seating areas. (We prefer siting at the bar) the bartenders and servers always seem to know their stuff and if they don't, they will find out for you. It's also nice to be recognized and remembered from previous visits. The loudness level is slightly less than that of a sports bar which is nice, I've been here on a first date and stayed for hours of conversation. The food is consistent, flavorful, and fresh. My go-to is the smoked chicken salad which comes with iceberg lettuce, smoked chicken, sliced apples, walnuts, red onion, and a sweet dressing. I've also had their chilaquiles (with a made to order egg on top,) the bison burger (superb!) and the classic padre burger. (Burger and 16oz of non craft beer is 14 bucks on Sundays 6p-9p) Appetizers aren't exactly my thing here, but I see many people ordering wings and nachos. Drinks are no exception here, they sure have the skills and willingness to make you that perfect drink (my go-to is an old fashioned) the bartenders are attentive and friendly. My only recommendation would be more craft beer on tap! I would say this place has it down! They never disappoint and I will continue to frequent and support this wonderful downtown business. read more

One star, only because the server did a great job. The food was the worst. We ordered the Calamari as soon as we sat down, along with our drinks. It took 40 minutes to get our appetizer. Besides the long wait, it was cold and had no flavor. The marinara sauce tasted like the cheapest spaghetti sauce you can find. For dinner we ordered the Cubano sandwich and margherita pizza. The sandwich was dry with very little ingredients. It looked like two pieces of bread stuck together. The pizza was ok but again nothing special. This is not a restaurant, it's a simple hotel lobby sports bar. Take a little walk down the street you'll find some very nice local restaurants. read more

It was extremely hot when we arrived at 2pm on saturday. We sat down and were greeted promptly. Decided to only order house margaritas at first. After seeing another customers calamari decided to order that and brimstone margaritas. The calamari was chewy and the drinks were alright. Definitely prefer the brimstone margarita over their house drink. Service was cool. Our server seemed to know when was an appropriate time to check in on us and didn't pester us throughout the hour we spent in their bar. There is free pool and the food came pretty quickly after we ordered it. Overall i would come here again for a quick bite but drinks ($8-11) and appetizers($14) don't come cheap here. Absolutely ridiculous to bring someone a drink 10 minutes before being kicked out of the bar due to closing. We were a large party and ordered a good amount of alcohol, which isn't cheap. Two things... the food is fantastic, there is something for everyone and all of it is delicious. We have a big family and we range from ravenous carnivores to vegetarians and we all loved our food. The second thing is the staff, service, and ambiance is lovely. They all embraced our family and made us feel completely at home. Solution: Brimstone Bar. The Padre Hotel is one of Bakersfield's hippest places downtown. Their downstairs bar is chill, vibrant, and unique. If I have out of town guests that are looking for something quick, I usually head here. It's easy to get a table and their food and cocktails are pretty consistent. During the summer, when my go-to meal is mostly salads I like coming here. They're salads are large enough to share and typically very quick in coming to the table. Perfect for people with less than an hour for lunch. Their cocktails are creative. Beer list extensive. And there's plenty of TV's and even a pool TV to keep even the most mute of guests content. One thing I wish they'd bring back was their bottomless mimosa's on Sundays. Here's hoping! read more

Non-breaded wings with a hot, sweet and tangy flavor topped with crumbled blue cheese; side of veggies and ranch. Their ranch is solid--above average for sure. I asked twice to have a tv tuned into a live NBA basketball game and that never happened. It's difficult to keep everyone happy with television, I totally understand that. Live sports should be a priority, in my humble opinion. I had the peaches and oats dessert. The flavors were fine, but the ice cream-to-oats ratio was off. Needed more ice cream. It's a big dessert perfect for two or three people. I really like staying at this hotel. I'm glad the bar is good. read more

Original plan was to have lunch at the Belvedere Room. Lo and behold, they are not open for lunch. Solution was to walk across the lobby and have lunch at Brimstone Bar. Did not see any "Please Wait to be Seated" sign. So we found a table and seated ourselves down. Our waitress was friendly and helpful so no complaints regarding the service. Started out with Potato Skins. Nothing stood out regarding this order. Came with 5 Potato Skins which all tasted fine. (3.5 stars) My wife absolutely loved her selection. Farmer's Daughter Flatbread was excellent!! It was topped with crispy pork belly, fried egg, smoked gouda, mozzarella, mornay sauce, and wild arugula. All the ingredients came together to create absolute perfection! (5 stars) I was a fan of their Bison Burger! It included yummy harvati, roasted garlic aoili, and wild arugula. Without a doubt, one of the best gourmet burgers that I have ever tried! Definitely, the best Bison Burger that I have ever had. I was doing the happy dance in my head! (5 stars) We should have stopped at our entrees, but we did not. Both of us decided not to finish our entrees so we could try their desserts. Bad move on our part!! Rocky Road Skillet Brownie ($8) was disappointing. Looked good, but tasted mediocre. Do not recommend. (2 stars) Coffee Creme Brûlée ($8) was also disappointing. Tasted Meh!!! Definitely tasted better elsewhere. Would not order it again. (2 stars) We should have finished our entrees and skipped desserts! Decided to eat in our hotel instead of braving the 103F degree weather outside at 7pm! Our service was good and was told that everything "bread" is made in house and you could definitely tell! We got the sourdough pretzel which was more like a sourdough braid. It was delicious! It came out very hot with a nice crust and soft in the center. The mustard and Chile cheese that came for dipping was also great. Couldn't decide which I liked more. We also got the Falafel burger and fish n chips. Fries were pretty good. Bun and falafel you can tell was made in house. It was good but needed some extra flavor. Fish was just ok. The one major complaint I had was that it was so freaking warm inside the restaurant, and hotel for that fact. I know it was really hot outside, but it was at least mid-80s in the restaurant with no airflow. read more

The Padre has style and class with several different areas for food and drink. The Brimstone Bar is usually a great hang-out spot at the Padre. It seemed dead around 10pm on a Friday with just a few people, but after about 45 minutes it was bustling with the cool kids. Reviewing the menu showed that the Brimstone is too cool for school. It's not just nachos but bison nachos. It's not just wings but duck wings. Okay fair enough. Bakersfield could use some edginess on the food scene. But apparently I am not that hip as bloody fried chicken is simply "EW!!" in my humble opinion. I do get that bloody steak is a thing, but chicken? Nope! No can do! Keep reading. I was in the mood for something more traditional, and my bf wanted something that would stick to his ribs so we shared the fried chicken, and substituted the biscuits for fries. We had to ask for silverware and didn't have any plates brought out or have anyone check in to see how the food was. Maybe that's just the flow in the later evening. The fries were large cut wedges that didn't have that satisfying crispness to them. They looked better than they tasted too. We didn't get the coleslaw that was supposed to come with the meal. My bf dug into his piece of chicken and the white meat was gleaming! Tasty too. I cut into mine and had flashbacks of the show ER where a vein bleeds out in surgery. Yup, blood squirted. Okay-flag someone down, send back-cook some more. Comes back. Repeat same scene again! Yup, the twice cooked piece of chicken does an ER rerun! Please see photo-this photo is after the bloody chicken is cooked again and brought out to fix the bloody problem!!! Oops! Apparently there is no designated waiter at this hour, so next the random staff we are able to flag has the helpful comment, "Oh, people have complained about that before. It's because of the vein being connected..." At which point my bf says, "I don't really care why it's bloody, I don't want my chicken bloody." But this begs the question, Brimstone, if people are not loving bloody $17 fried chicken why serve it that way? It is quite disgusting. We requested a completely new piece of chicken. The gal that brought out the re-cooked chicken and the new piece of chicken to replace it was super sweet and apologetic even though it wasn't her fault. The new piece was just fine-gleaming white with no blood. Just like I like it. My experience made me regret not going to the Belvedere instead which from past experience provides a fabulous food and service experience. read more

Came here on a Friday night. Had a date night with me sweetie. I have also come for lunch. Let's start with the lunch. It was marvelous. I ordered a burger and fries and they were both very good. Actually the cheeseburger was off the hook good and the fries were average. Still, it was a great lunch with good service in a clean restaurant. At night time they are awesome. We don't do the club scene, so we just sit down at the bar. The bartender is super fast, and mixes crazy good mojitos. Since I was driving I had a nice wine, and my sweetie ordered the mojitos, and usually I can't stand them, but she convinced me to try it. I have changed my mind. I hate all mojitos but these. Down side is they close the grill at 11pm and didn't put out any snacks with the drinks. Alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach are not a good idea. The bar stools were rickety and in need of repair. Also, they need to establish a well defined place for walk up customers to order drinks instead of forcing their way between customers who are seated at the bar. I like my personal space and hate strangers rubbing their bodies all up on me. Hands off the old guy millennials. We don't like you touching us. Learn some boundaries. Brimstone seems to be the go to for a quick meeting with friends and some great Reps. The service has been quick and friendly and the drinks are plentiful. The one wish I have is that their craft beer selection was larger. The limited bar menu is great and the burgers are tasty. This trip I had the chicken sandwich without bread and salad instead of fries.... :( Keto Diet... The chicken breast was super moist with crunchy bacon and a great spicy mayo wrapped in lettuce. Stopped at Padre for dinner & to watch the World Series (Go Cubs!) before a Goo GooDolls concert at the Fox Theatre. We had a very mixed experience: Service: 5 stars! Emily was great! Drinks: 4 stars - I had Benton's Old Fashioned. The Bourbon was delicious but I just didn't get the bacon?!?! Grilled Cheese: 2 stars - the Parmesan crisp on top was the best part. But the bread was too thick, soggy, and overall the sandwich was disappointing. I didn't even finish 1/2. The tomato bisque was not a serving of soup but rather a small dipping cup of soup (maybe a 1/4 cup). It wasn't even enough to serve it with a spoon. Cali Cobb: 3.5 stars - just your basic Cobb, fresh ingredients, tasted good, nothing more-worthy I'd give it another shot IF I ever come back to Bakersfield for drinks & appetizers. read more

First off - the bartenders are slow. When the bar is half empty and yet I'm still waiting for 10 minutes to order is ridiculous. The bartender also don't engage the patrons other than to take your order. Food delivery is painfully slow. I've waited for over 40 minutes for my meal - more than once.
