Visited as a party of four. Only one of us had experience with mead, so we decided to get The Jarls Flight so we could get a taste of everything. This was a great idea because we got to get a good sense of how varied mead can be. While there was enough space inside, we sat outside to enjoy the fresh air. The Hammer & Horns Food Truck was right there if we wanted food. The staff was friendly and helpful. I got the sense that they enjoyed working there and were passionate about mead. Holy $#!t great mead at this place. We (my wife and I) had a couple pints and took a bottle of the "Tribe Mulberry Mead" to go. They had a BBQ and a taco food truck. The BBQ was fantastic. When you put pulled pork on a hot dog with cheese you get fantastic meals. What made this trip awesome is Brimming Horn Meadery had a Viking fest going on while we stopped in. They used to have cider or actually be a cidery. All meads all the time now. Bummed cause the location is great on the bike trail but get at least one normal cider back on tap please. Words heard outside drinking flights "that's weird". That being said they made investment in outdoor shade and have music outside on weekends which is nice. I just miss a simple cider. read more

No frills, and perfect that way. Random picnic tables outside, and basic bar setup indoors. Staff is super-friendly and helpful. Pours are legit, and prices are surprisingly good for mead and wines that are clearly made with care. Went on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised by live music outside. Really really cool place! As a sommelier, I like to try everything and was so pleasantly surprised with their mead. They had every type! My favorite was the Sima, a sparkling lemon off dry style. Such a cool place! My in-laws live in Lewes and we came to visit Brimming Horn during our visit last week. My husband has Scandinavian heritage so we just had to check it out. I couldn't believe how many flavors of mead they had on tap. There were more than 10. They had more taps than some breweries I've been too! My husband and I each did flights of 6. Every single thing we tried was good. It was honestly hard to pick a favorite. I loved the decor inside the building. The bar was really inviting. They were playing awesome music and the staff was very nice. We bought a couple of bottles to bring home with us. We will definitely be stopping by the next time we're in time. One of my favorite places to visit in the area. The brimming horn offers a unique selection of Mead as well as ciders. Whether it be the immersive decor, helpful and well informed staff, or the awesome selection of delicious meads ranging from the traditional to the unique. My personal favorite was the Crimson Queen which offered a bold cranberry and orange flavor that was matched with a bitey tartness and the subtle honey sweetness you expect. My vacation would have not been the same without a trip to Brimming Horn Meadery and I am looking forward to my next visit. Mead! Where art thou? Right here in Delaware it's like a Norwegian Viking ship got stranded with a ton of mead for the taking. They serve both carbonated and still mead. Difference is carbonated is well bubbly and crisp. Still tends to be sweeter as able to handle more strong flavors (eg fruity, buckwheat, sweet honey, etc.). As someone who loves mead and collects a few bottles at home, I wholeheartedly give this place 5 stars. I absolutely love the peach, blackberry meads they make seasonally and recently tried their carbonated orangesicle mead which was so delicious!! Furthermore, the bartenders here are super friendly and knowledgeable. Environment is beautiful, quirky, and fun. I like that they s the the tastings in a Viking shaped boat, have Viking decorations galore. Very comfortable thick wood benches and tables as well as a beautiful bar. The smell of this place is lovely as a result of the fragrant wood they use. I frequent this place every time I'm in Delaware. It's local bred out of passion and experience. This place is so cool. We went here for the first time today, and I already know it's my new must-visit spot any time I'm in the area. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. But we were so surprised by how much we loved the mead. It is unbelievable! When we visited they had 9 different meads and 1 fruit wine, each with a unique and fun taste. The flavors were bold- when they say peaches, you get peaches! Of all the craft breweries, winiers and cideries we've visited, this ranks at (or near) the top. We did the $12 tasting which includes 6 very generous pours. Served in a viking long boat! So. Cool. They had 2 additional, special meads that were an extra $3 each to taste. These were amazing too and worth trying if you enjoyed their other offerings. We filled a growler for $18 (plus $10 if you buy one). For growlers, there's only one option right now- whichever one they have at the filling station. You can buy many of the meads by the bottle too. Mead! How many meaderies have you been to? This is my first, and I found it to be an absolute blast. An inviting tasting room with a Nordic theme. We got to learn a bit of meadmaking craft & history from the head "meadmaker", chat with some nice customers, and walked out with 4 bottles and a t-shirt! The shirt has a cool Viking logo with the slogan, "Party like it's 793!" For those (like me) that are relatively unfamiliar with mead: Wiki describes mead as an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, grains, or hops. I struggle trying to describe mead... how does one describe a new flavor or sensation? One needs to work from a common frame of reference and that's nigh impossible for the uninitiated. My best attempt would be to say that it's in the general area of a light version of a sweet wine or cider. I honestly don't care much for sweet wines or cider, but mead somehow works - really well; it's as though mead's sweetness comes off as "light" and "refreshing" as opposed to "syrupy" or "heavy-handed". I was impressed by the variety and breadth of flavors. The spectrum included subtle influences from blackberries apples, peaches, ginger, rosehips, citrus, cinnamon, clove, and it goes on. You can check out the photo I posted of the tasting menu for more detailed descriptions of the varieties I tried. Tasting flights are available in 4 or 6 servings. We did a flight of 6 for $12, which I have to believe is at (or below) their cost. Go there with a friend and give a flight a try. This is something pretty unique and cool. We plan to buy several bottles to give as gifts to friends and family over the holidays. To begin with, the driveway isn't that weird. I've seen some weird driveways in my days, and their driveway doesn't make me think "Ohhhh shit, I'm totally going to get into some conversation with some freak about the healing power of colon cleansing and municipal bonds." As someone who has made a LOT of mead and cyser but can't due to my microbially cursed (complete with a third floor ghost) house, the first sip of their dry björnbär made me fight off the tears that can only be known by one who CANNOT MAKE THIS SHIT HIMSELF ANY LONGER. Theirs may also be better than what I make, but it's been so, so long. So very long. So now, I have to drive CLEAR TO DELAWARE to sate my cravings because my house is trying to kill me, and kill all of my booze, and cheese, and everything else and..........I don't want to talk about it any more. I'm fine. Really. The people working there were genuinely awesome, they sell quality stuff, and you should definitely stop by. Session meads are new to me, and a seriously amazing idea. If there aren't more of these around in 10 years, I'd be genuinely surprised. If/when that happens, you can thank these people. Also, if you like metal, talk to...anyone that works there about music. PS: HEY DECIBEL MAGAZINE, get these guys into the metal and beer festival. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you? I would argue they have the best wine of any style in the world as well, but I admit that may be pushing it a little. The staff at this place are amazing and the owners are spectacular. The Party like its 793 event was raucous in all the right ways. I was also blown away by the food from Hammer and Horn. What a cool place! We took the ferry over from Cape May specifically to go to this place, and we were not disappointed! The mead is all wonderful, with variations of complex flavors (rather than all tasting like the same base that happens to have fruit in it), and there's a healthy selection to choose from. We did flights (you can do flights of either 4 or 6). There were 10 general meals available, as well as 3 limited release meads (those were $1 extra to add to your flight). The orange cardamom is a super flavorful easy drinker, the light carbonation made it nice and smooth. Freya's Kiss is a wonderful entry mead. The Apples of Discord (aged in whiskey barrels!!!) is addictive!!! The owner, Jon, is personable and welcoming, as is the rest of the staff, and he atmosphere is lovely. You won't regret stopping in. Delicious meade and knowledgeable, friendly staff. Been in twice, once on St. Patty's day and returned to host a birthday party. First visit was a date night in the slower season, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The bartender really got to go into detail about the different meades and the mythology that inspires them. He talked to us about the business history and the meade making process. We got a tasting of 6 flights (all very tasty) to share and brought home a bottle of Blushing Goddess. The second time was more crowded because it was summer and during their viking event. I had the privilege of visiting Brimming Horn Meadery on their opening day. I was in luck as I was driving to CT from NC that day, and happened so see a facebook post about their soft opening! What a delight, I don't know where to begin, so I guess I'll start at the beginning. 1) It is easy to miss the building, which is unassuming from the outside. There is not any signage on the road (yet). When we asked about this, we were told there are some rules with the DOT that have to be worked through. However, google maps are spot on with the directions, just keep an eye out for the gravel lot with the brown building (the building is clearly marked as Brimming Horn Meadery). 2) Upon entering, I got an eyeful of some fantastic merchandise. The shirts are gorgeous. There is also barware for sale, including hand carved drinking vessels made by the brewer. 3) Ok, so I thought the shirts were gorgeous. Then I got an eyeful of the bar. It is reminiscent of a viking ship, I love it. There is also tons of heathen/viking artwork all around, including shields, wooden plaques, and paintings. I want to own almost every item this place is decorated with. 4) Onto the real purpose, the mead. The meadery offered flights, so I got to taste seven different meads, four traditional style and three lower alcohol, lightly carbonated, "session" meads. What a treat! It was hard to pick a favorite, but I really loved Freya's Kiss, a semi-sweet traditional mead, and two of the session meads, Orange Cardamom and a Lime Juniper. The lime one reminded me of a Moscow Mule, only even more delightful with the kiss of honey and carbonation. It went down so easy. 5) Beyond making a great product, the staff here is incredibly friendly and knowledgable. When I commented on how gorgeous the bar was, they told me they made it themselves, and then described the process behind the construction. The meadmaker shared with me his process on making the meads, and told me what he had planned for the future based on some recent berry picking he did with his family. We even got to take a look in the back and see where the fermentation takes place. 6) There are tables to sit and have a flight, and you can bring some snacks with you. I was told that there are future plans to host food trucks on site. I would say it is family friendly if you can trust your kids to behave. There were a few there, and they were delightful. All in all, worth a visit. I envision this business really taking off, and hope they find success. A great place to grab a gift, since delicious mead is not easily available to most people and it is guaranteed to be appreciated, especially with a nice cheese plate for dessert! read more

The staff were so friendly. We meet the owner or one if the owners and he was wonderful. I liked every mead I tried. We brought our puppy who was welcomed and the bridal party next to us seemed to have a blast. There was also a couple there who were regulars. We brought home two bottles of the specials.
