The freestyle tango show was so incredible, I'll be back to see it again. It was so creative! It was like a Broadway show for ARS 400. The venue is cool AF. Yeah it's dingy/dirty. But the prices are super cheap (wine is ARS 75, gin & tonic ARS 180, empanadas ARS 50) and everyone is very inviting! It's hipster cool, which is why an uptight person might not like it. Relax! You are having an authentic experience, despite the tourists! When it's not crowded you can actually talk to the performers and have room to dance. Plus, often there is live music! I felt such a warm welcome and like I said, the tango show was PHENOMENAL! Photos do not do it justice! We came for the show, but apparently they have classes as well. La Viruta is wonderful too, but there's a reason La Catedral is famous!

Not what I was expecting in terms of a class - there was no structure, they didn't teach us the steps but had us do exercises to feel the music and move with our partners instead of thinking about it and looking at our feet. It was interesting, though I would've liked more direction on how to do the foot movements. And it was fun to see people dance afterwards, some were really great at dancing! But the service here is horrendous. The worst service ever. The service is really slow. Drinks take forever after you order. There seemed to be one guy taking and bringing orders and he was a huge jerk. I made the mistake of ordering food, only because I was starving. I ordered the fried rice and it took literally an hour to get to me after I requested it. After 20 minutes I asked about it and the guy said it was coming soon. After 10 more minutes I tried to cancel it and he said I couldn't because it was coming right out. And he wasn't apologetic at all. Super rude. And the fried rice was disgusting. It was just rice and a few veggies fried in a frying pan with no seasoning or flavor. And then when we tried to pay - we had a large number of people in our group - we tried to break a couple of our bills and of course our server said no. So we decided to just sort it out later amongst the group, but he didn't want to even give us back the change that we were owed. He said he would get to keep the balance as tip (which would have been an extremely generous tip). What?!?!? He didn't deserve a tip - service was awful, but to have the audacity to announce that he would keep the change?? I would never come back here, especially since here are so many other milongas in the city.
