Daniel Laurence Home & Garden is one of the more interesting galleries to look in along the beach…read more Whilst several are painting-based, this one contains unique pieces of artwork that are also functional in the home and the prices are quite reasonable. With stock that spills out onto the walkway, the shop contains several large sculptures and enormous vases (complete with faux plants), mirrors of within driftwood and stone frames, and lovely fountains. These are pieces that require a large living space - I imagine one item quite easily taking over my little flat. Smaller items include mobiles and hanging candle holders made from blown glass; small ceramic and metal sculptures of animals; and useful items like key and coat holders, memo boards, dishware and wine glasses. Several items have been marked down quite drastically for the holiday sale. For example, one of the huge vases has been reduced from £250 to £125, so ... hang on ... 50 % off. (Nice work, math skills!)

There is a particular style here that I can't quite put my finger on, with lots of wood jutting out everywhere, gaudy metal mirrors and the trees that flank its entrance it all looks a bit like Midsummer Nights Dream directed by the Snow Queen, or something. Expect a few oddities for special living room effects, lots of mirrors and some stone pieces that will probably last the next millennium.

The ground floor consists of costumes through the ages and some archaeological finds and a studio…read moregallery where there tends to be more contemporary work. Remembering this a museum and art gallery in Worthing not London, it represents the town and it isn't trying to be a cutting edge contemporary gallery. Saying that, the curators do make an effort to source contemporary local artists and makers. The delightful sculpture garden always seems to have quirky, relevant and interesting pieces. The upstairs gallery's tend to be more formal and often houses work owned by the gallery. Recently the museum and gallery staged the Worthing Open, where local artists can submit their work. It was amazing to see a jam packed exhibition representing the town and the surrounding areas talent. Anyway, down to the nitty gritty. Can I take my children there? Yes! During the holidays, children's workshops are run. There are books and a little table on the first floor to keep them amused. I really enjoy taking my little girl there who loves exploring the place. Children's orientated gifts in the gift shop. Not a hush hush type place. On the downside, the museum displays are a little dated and your experience of the gallery will depend on what's on show during your visit.

It's nice to…read morefind a shop that sticks to what it specialises in without filling in any shelf-gaps with random extras. Bags and jewellery here. That's it. The former includes glittery clutches, woolen handbags, box-style purses and leather in many colours and styles. The prices are a little steep: between £50 - £100 for most, with not many items on sale. The jewellery cases offer several discounts, though, with some prices starting at £4. These are mostly faux diamond rings and the gaudier necklaces. The necklaces of pearl, gold and real diamond are quite a bit more expensive, but still nice to look at. Earrings are separated into pieced and clip-on varieties - with plenty of both. I'm not a big accessory buyer, but I can appreciate the unique styles in Penelope's.

You'd be…read moreforgiven for walking past it several times before realising it's there as it's a little bit tucked away despite an incredibly central location. On their website, they advertise themselves as a place where you can escape from the throwaway world of fast fashion that is here today and gone tomorrow and choose instead the timeless elegance of a quality-made, vintage item. Indeed, this gem of a fashion boutique is a world away from the 'fast fashion', throwaway world of Primark, New Look and H&M that we've all grown so accustomed to. Despite its small size, Penelope's Portmanteau is absolutely crammed with stunning broaches, costume jewellery, handbags and designer vintage gowns all laid out beautifully. With a wide range of prices, you can treat yourself to a bargain of around a fiver or splurge hundreds of pounds on one-of-a-kind designer pieces: last year, they sold off a stunning collection of Vintage Elizabeth Emanuel Couture Gowns. Fantastic for browsing and amazing for accessorising, a visit to this place comes very highly recommended for anyone who's even remotely interested in the world of fashion.

If you want an ordinary bunch of carnations don't go here !!!…read moreThis florist is extraordinary, she has more creativity, flair & imagination than most of the other local florists put together. Her displays are always different, amazing & uncommon flowers that you have never seen before, sometimes using plants from her own garden. People kept telling me about this place but it took me ages to find it. Turn off the A22 to Ashurstwood it is on the right at the top of the hill from Forest Row and on the left passed the war memorial from East Grinstead. It is easy to miss this treasure hidden away beside the cottage. It is between the Blacksmiths & the tennis courts. Park in the layby at the entrance to the tennis courts or just along the road in the little free car park then walk, carefully, back towards the forge. Just after you pass the field/tennis court gates there is a wooden five bar gate, go in, you have arrived !!! There is always a beautiful display of plants at the entrance to the little shop. There is not only a wonderful selection of unusual flowers in this tiny treasure chest but also really imaginative containers and gifts. Nothing ordinary here. Not the cheapest flowers around but there is something for all pockets and she is frienmdly, approachable and more than happy to make suggestions to suit your budget. From Wedding flowers to little bunches of herbs to your chosen plant in your chosen pot to birthday bouquets to a posy of anemonies. Everyone always love the flowers & gifts I get from here. This is one awesome florist.

The stock changes frequently and the owners pride themselves on finding unique and distinctive designs you can't find anywhere else. The Studio Shop stands out of the crowd though- mostly I think because of the lovely colours they introduce into their style through some amazing fabrics, stunning silk cushions with abstract patterns, fantastic painted reclaimed wooden frames. The prices range from very inexpensive for small pieces to much more for the art. Love the green front as well.
