Situated on Upper St James Street the market is less than a minutes walk to the seafront, Kemptown village and the hubbub of St James Street. It often has interesting window displays, for example a homage to a legendary Brighton drag queen featuring one of her dresses. Coming up to its 20th anniversary the Brighton Flea Market is a must see for any bargain hunters and Brighton bohos.

The last few times I've visited however, I've left empty handed and disappointed. A lot of the stock that was there a few years back is still there and you can pick up similar glassware, silverware and mirrors for cheaper prices elsewhere. If you're looking for a retro oil painting or 1950s to 1990s paraphanelia, it's probably worth popping in. My personal love affair with the place however, has probably ended.

Thursday is mainly antiques, furniture and hardware, Saturday is the best day in terms of items for sale but it gets extremely busy so get over early otherwise you will be driving around a while to find a parking space. Sunday it runs at the same time as the market and is very small. It's an ok car boot sale but not a favourite of mine to be honest and part of that is location reasons.

Gone was the mix of locals and tourists, cool music playing, great shopping and tasty food! The place was full of shops loaded with cheap, generic junk! It makes Times Square or Pier 39 look eclectic! Want a cheaply printed tee or bag you can also buy on Amazon - check! Want a 'vintage' Amy Whitehouse vinyl for 80 pounds that you can buy on eBay for $5 - check! What about a 'French taco ' aka a tortilla filled with French fries ( seriously) check!! Want to walk shoulder to shoulder to shoulder with unsuspecting tourists buying all of the above - yep they have that too!! We ended up escaping the main drag and finding a local brewery - and even that was empty and devoid of culture! The cool market; with unique finds and great street food has been replaced with a generic experience that you could find at any tourist trap and it makes me sad that areas like this are losing the very identity that set them apart !

One of the better vintage fairs around…read more Takes place every few months on a Sunday (approx 5 times a year). Can be a queue to get in but it's worth it for finding good quality clothes and accessories. It's a good space too, at the Urdang. Not huge, but there's three rooms to browse and I was really impressed selection on offer. It's not a jumble sale like some vintage fairs. I find those give me a headache whereas this is a pretty relaxed shopping experience.

Once a month, we all get a treat A neighbourhood food market, YAAY!, to say the least Moroccan, Vietnamese, Maritian, etc... Cakes, French cuisine, oh my what a plethora! Sitting and eating along the marina Relaxation in my own private food arena! Not a huge market like Brick Lane and Broadway But if you're in the 'hood, stop in! for a break from your day Every last saturday, of the months that are warm Not quite sure?
