From when I was young the one thing that I remember that people mention with regards to Brighton Beach is how it isn't sand, it is pebbles. Okay, I've seen that in other places around Europe, however I always wanted to go and actually check it out myself. Honestly, since I have discovered that Brighton isn't the only place that has a fancy pier with an amusement park on it I'm actually not all that sure what is so special about Brighton, and if the beach is anything to go by then I am even more baffled. As it turns out, the beach is made up entirely of pebbles, which does make it somewhat uncomfortable to lie on, and throw in the seagulls it become even more annoying. Well, it's okay, but compared to beaches in Australia, it really doesn't compare.

    Peace & quiet!

Brighton beach is fabulous and just at the end of my road so I often pop down to sit & watch the sun go down in the evening. There is always something going on whether it is crazy golf, parties, open air cinema or just a bit of sunbathing. Bring some water proof shoes if you are planning on paddling though - the pebbles are a nightmare!

Brighton Beach and its pier was one of the first tourist spots I hit up during my time abroad at University of Sussex. It was a very pretty area, especially around sunset and at night when the lights are on. The beach is unique since it's not sand but stone/small smooth pebbles next to the water. It allows you to do a stroll up and done with lots of activities to do and sights to see. There are a good amount of street performers. In the daytime, they have a lot of chairs that you can rent to sit and enjoy the fresh air. Around the beach, there are lots of bars and restaurants to check out. I definitely suggest taking the special someone here for a first date or taking a tourist out of town for a chill night out. The beach seems pretty clean but I did not really see people swimming..it is still cold in the month of June and July..

Beautiful beach with nice brighton pier. Most busy central beach in the England. Wonderful place for everyone, if you like to see wonderful sunset just Pier is the best for. Highly recommend Brighton beach for all ages

Brighton beach is full of stuff to do: Bars, Clubs, a pier, restaurants, rides there's a even a mini-golf range which is awesome and only £2 per play. Ok, so it's not the nicest beach in the world and is covered in pebbles but it's part of what makes being in Brighton so fun. I seem to have spent the end of many a drunken night ending up on the beach with friends. I recommend the Fortune of War pub down there and the fish and chip shop.

You simply cannot get anything better than Brighton Beach once the weather has warmed up. On days like today I feel so happy that I am fortunate to live in Brighton and Hove. As soon as there is a bit of sunshine, everyone descents on to the beach! It makes me wonder WHO exactly has a job in Brighton because no one ever seems to be at work! I love Brighton beach so much, although when I want a bit of peace and quiet I will head to the beach at my end of town in Hove, as one really hot days it can get really manic!

"We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it -…read morewe are going back from whence we came." ― John F. Kennedy As a Londoner, I must admit I envy how Brighton has the most beautiful beach in the area. I often come here to do some photography and there is a certain kind of charm in the way people fascinate the sea. They all gaze at it, some of them looking for answers or perhaps waiting for a lover which heart is at the ocean; and others like me, just contemplate its beauty. Through history, people have shown a deep connection with water, describing it in art, literature, and poetry. I'm in love with the way the lighting changes the whole atmosphere. On colder days, the sky would be grey and the waves would be high, making mad love with the ocean. On warmer days, indeed the sea could be calm and welcoming, opening its arms to embrace it's audience. Like Sophie said earlier, I think people take living by the sea for granted and don't appreciate its beauty. Because there's nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it's sent away.

I'm generally a 'live and let live' kind of girl, but if you're a bit more sensitive... Despite my encounters with some dodgy goings on, I still enjoy a spot of sunbathing on the level, as it's really close to my house and lots of nice local pubs. And if you steer clear of the little wall lined with benches at the north perimeter, you'll be a-okay. There's plenty of space for Frisbee, football and all sorts of other summer games. In the Autumn the Level is visited by a funfair complete with waltzers, candy floss and groups of local youths.

Events such as paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, etc. various lengths and various age categories I believe. However the best bit to watch is the free for all race where all forms of water sports race around the west pier together. Quite a specticule to see, and soooo typically Brighton. On the good weather year they also had a race where people made all sorts of weird and wonderful rafts and raced them. This was hilarious to watch. Brilliant to photograph.
