His favorite teacher there was Don Shea, who also is the Oakland Mills Head Soccer Coach. He has been a great influence there as a mentor and leader in the Oakland Mills community. One of the application steps is that my 5yr old has to do a 2hr "shadow day" (so I have to explain to him that we are applying to send him there) followed by assessment testing in which I am told "He is amazing, everything went great, you should now tell his current school that you are applying." His current school needs to send over his PRE-K progress report and complete a questionnaire so I didn't want to take those steps until we knew were continuing w/the application process based on their feedback. We do ALL of this and they decline him because "his progress report showed 2 emerging skill sets (apparently he should have every SINGLE skill MASTERED) and he had to be told 2 or 3 times to come inside when the other kids only had to be told once." Are you kidding me?!?! He is 5 and at a brand new school with brand new people so obviously he's not 100% himself. Kindergarten tuition is $25k, the 3's preschool tuition is $20K. So we were stupidly about to pay GCS $45k in CASH for KINDERGARTEN and PRE-SCHOOL but my 5 yr old is not perfect so they don't want him. IF THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT 5 YEAR OLDS IMAGINE HOW THEY TREAT MIDDLE AND UPPER SCHOOL STUDENTS. Blessing for my son and am taking my daughter out. Both my son and I tried to explain what happened during the recess, that one boy grabbed his arm so hard into bleeding that my son tried to get rid of him. And only my son got early dismissed. And this the second time he got unfairly treated. They just won't listen. And when I ask what should you do when you were grabbed badly, the lady just told me, oh, maybe fight back just happens in your family, but not here. I cannot believe that such words came from a private school teacher! Till now, I got no justice. I don't know to whom should I talk such things. I believe there are many parents like me has been unfairly treated but why they, the summer camp, keep the business while we just got expelled? We did nothing wrong. My child was being bullied in school at Lake Elkhorn Middle School, It started off at the beginning…read moreof the year, it became so bad she was put in a position where she had to be on defense at all times, although the school was able to curtail the bullying for a short period it began again. This time it was to the point where my child was crying because she was afraid to go to school. The schools solution was to recommend her staying in the class for students creating problems rather than deal with the aggressors. They were going to try to come up with a plan to keep her safe for bathroom use and lunchtime. When we put in a request to transfer it was denied even though my daughter's safety was at risk. We had to pull her out of school for her safety. Those same students who were bullying her found her in the neighborhood of a friend and attacked her, two girls beating her up to the point she had a black eye, and the police had to be involved. Shame on a school and school system that doesn't provide for a child's safety!

Sure there are classic "middle school" things that happen, but that goes along with the age group - lots of hormones flying through those kids bodies and they're adjusting. I feel for school staff these days as people are so quick to call foul anymore, that the teachers/staff do struggle to discipline in some cases, sure. But that is in any setting these days. Every teacher I've dealt with has been pleasant, the administration has been pleasant, and the extracurricular activities are abundant. My kids all excel in their academics and are comfortably social. They still go back and visit their favorite teachers at CMS and often speak of the times they had there with smiles on their faces.
