This was my first apartment experience. I moved in with the help of Mary and was shown a beautifully renovated unit. She informed me that the unit in my price range would be unrenovated but that the only difference was the color of the cabinets and the countertops. She encouraged me that the floors had already been replaced and that everything else should be up to date. I wish I knew then that I should have run. Upon moving in, my nightmare began as there was uneven flooring, holes in the cabinet, a broken oven seal, cracked tile in the shower, A broken laundry door, and dead bugs in the bedroom.I tried to make the best of it and move my stuff in anyway however my very first night in the apartment a huge centipede was crawling up my wall right next to my bed. This was only the beginning of the year long nightmare that I could not seem to escape. My first week living there the fire alarm had to be replaced in every unit. In order to do this they cut several large holes in our drywall. They never patched some of them because they were cut in the wrong places. So I was forced to cover the holes with duct tape as roaches, centipedes, and silver fish were crawling through the holes and infesting my apartment. When I called to ask when the holes would be repaired they told me that they did not have the drywall specialist to do it at the time .There was leaking water heaters, my air went out on three occasions,Causing my air to spike 85° in the middle of summer while I was out of town and Duke energy to charge me over $200 on my bill that month That Bridgeport never even reimbursed me for. Insects begin to crawl through the cracks in the shower, and rust begin to pour out of the pipes when the bath nozzle was used. I was only able to shower for the entirety of the year that I lived there because the bath was full of rust. Three out of four vanity lights went out at the same time and electrical problems caused them to flicker. My favorite, was when the power went out twice in the middle of the night, with no explanation and no reason why other than humidity. I called the 24 hour emergency maintenance who told me that there is nothing they can do about it and To call the power company. They told me they could come out and look but they had to charge me $150 to do so. So I called Duke energy. Duke energy told me to call the 24 hour maintenance as it will require a breaker flipped on property because I was the only unit out. I called the emergency maintenance back but did not receive an answer that time.So at midnight, as a single woman living alone, I had to go outside and walk around my apartment complex looking for a breaker on the phone with the tech from Duke energy in my pajamas to flip some thing that would've taken maintenance five minutes to do.The problems continue throughout the year in every way you would expect. My water heater leaked three more times, my air went out two more times, and I had an infestation of large wood roaches in my apartment that I asked to be sprayed multiple times and each time was given an excuse that my alarm was on even though I had provided a maintenance code several times before. After waking up to a large roach crawling on my chest in the middle of the night and not being able to sleep I began to spend more time at home with my parents as my apartment no longer felt safe. I was so excited when my move out came that I informed them two months early just to make sure that they knew. I packed my things and cleaned the apartment in better condition than it was when I got there. Then I received my move out statement to find that they were trying to charge me almost $700 in damages claiming that I had damaged the carpet and the vinyl. This poorly made vinyl had bubbles, was uneven obviously, and was poorly installed in the first place but I was being blamed for a small tear. They also tried to say that I had water damage to the carpet despite their leaking water heater and the fact that the carpet was nowhere near a water source like a tub or a kitchen sink. After much negotiation, and conversations with our legal team, we paid an amount that still didn't feel right but at least it allowed me to be free.Even as I write this review, I feel fear that they will try to do something to sabotage me as result of me speaking out. However, if I can save one person from having my experience then it would've been worth it.Save yourself a lot of stress and do not move here. I know it's close to a nature trail and seems to have nice amenities but the car break-ins, infestations of roaches and other insects, in adequate maintenance, and deplorable conditions of any unrenovated unit, a rude office staff with a lot of turnover, dog poop, the smells of drug use, Trash left outside of doors for weeks, no breed restrictions( even though they say that there are I had two pitbull's living across from me for the first six months that I lived there), and so so much more, it's simply not worth it. read more
