The cafe opened since my last visit was not open on a very early weekend. The area felt safe which is important to highlight these days. Restrooms are updated and were clean and minimal vending offered. If you need a stop at MM69 in WV this is a solid choice.

Turn off is on the right, just before you cross the bridge crossing the New River. The road is all gravel and not in bad condition but very busy. There were many cars and trucks up and down this road. There are a lot of pullover spots but we saw a sign that said Gladecreek Sandbar Rd so we cut to the left heading over the hillside down to the river through the trees and brush. It opened into a clearing, to the right was drive up camping tent sites (no electric available) and to the left was walk in tent sites (No electric there too) and in the middle was parking, bathhouse and boat ramp available for use. There was also a couple of picnic tables near the boat ramp and once at the end of the ramp to the left and right come really nice places to spend the day fishing and swimming and having fun. The water is a little swift here and there are boaters coming down the river in rafts going whitewater rafting. It is all very nice and with the sun shining very lovely and relaxing...I want to camp and fish now!!!!

I eat snickers and bananas. But there was one thing I always wanted to try - white water rafting - just like my girl Meryl Streep in "The River Wild" (sans Kevin Bacon trying to kill me). I took a chance and decided that the rafting trip was for me when I had the option during college orientation. I stepped aboard a large raft with about 7 other freshmen newbies and our guide. The guide was very outdoorsy and informative when it came to teaching us how to navigate the rapids safely while also giving us a nature tour of the area. "See that? That's the New River Gorge Bridge. People commit suicide there all the time." *click goes the camera* Making our way down the river was beautiful yet horrifying. I felt like a bipolar woman going through "the change." One second I'd be enjoying the sights and sounds of nature and by the next I would be screaming bloody murder and accusing the guide of trying to kill me. Not.Dramatic.At.All. Along the voyage you're allowed to jump out of the raft and take a dip in the river - not me though, I don't do wet. As the trip continues you face down a variety of rapids and try your best to stay afloat. And of course stay aboard the raft. Not my friend Angie though, she went right overboard. I could have tried to save her, but I wasn't letting go of my paddle nor the safety of my flotation device. Hey... at least she had a life preserver ;( By the end of the day I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I was thrilled my college gave me the chance to do this. The rapids are fun, the guides are awesome, the lunch back at the campsite is good, and there are even photos to buy as they have photographers snapping shots at some of the rapids. I'd share my photo with you but this trip was during the days when the doctor said I "had a bit of a weight problem." Me and my father went here for a fun weekend away. He was an instructor with the first white water…read morerafting company in West Virginia and so he had many fond memories of this river. We got there and set up a tent. It was a nice flat area and it was raining but did not flood. The trip itself was a lot of fun. Our instructor was fun and we were kept safe. All in all I would suggest this company to anyone and even if you don't use this company I would strongly suggest rafting this river before you die.

We throughly enjoyed ourselves and the two couples we sat with. Everyone was pleasant and talkative. The food served was delicious and well presented. Each course was developed by a student. The one thing we thought was that the noise was out of control. Even the two partners sitting with us. Of course, I had to purchase the cookbooks in the store. I love cookbooks. Now I just need to make something out of them. We both hope, to make it to another Farm to Table.

Location: Couldn't be better. The Lodge is located in Richwood, WVA, the gateway to the Cranberry…read moreBackcountry/Wilderness Area of the Monogahela National Forest. All the trails and rivers in the Cranberry area are within lass than an hour's drive. The Lodge is situated right on a big waterfall of the North Fork of the Cherry River, and is easy to find on Route 39. Exterior: The Lodge's exterior and grounds are very well maintained, and the buildings have a nice rustic look. A few nits: there were a bunch of cigarette butts and a tooth flossing stick on the ground outside our room. Staff: They were great. We had to move the dates of our reservation three times because the weather kept turning bad on the dates we'd chosen to hike. Staff didn't blink an eye and happily moved our dates around. They were very friendly at check in. Pets: Huge plus for us, the Lodge is pet friendly. The Room: We got a "deluxe king" -- I take it that the "deluxe" part refers to the private deck we had where you could sit and listen to the falls. As for the room itself .... there wasn't much deluxe about it. First let me list the pros. The bed was great (and I'm picky about beds): great mattress, great pillows, fresh clean comfortable white sheets. There's a wide six-chest set of drawers, and a nice large flat-screen TV. The bathroom itself was clean. Lighting was adequate. Plenty of hot water with good water pressure. Wifi was great and super-strong. The AC/heat unit was quiet and worked very well in both modes. Now for the problems we had with the room (#114) -- and these were almost enough for me to give the Lodge one star if it weren't for the above-listed pros and the fact that I think the problems could be easily remedied. The carpet had a number of stains all over it. The area of the door above the lock, the wall areas around the light switches, and the wall around where the controls for the window shade are were grey with dirt and smudges from a many previous guests. I actually took a wash cloth and scrubbed them clean in about five minutes. There is no closet. The switches on the floor lamp are loose and have to be jiggled to get them to work right. While our trash was emptied every day over three days, the coffee pot was never cleaned, the bed linen was never changed, the bed was never made, and the same towels were recycled. And speaking of towels, they are small and sheet-thin. Then there was the shower. There was a 3 inch ring of black mold all around the base of the wall tiles, and a huge amount of mold on the shower curtain. We've traveled extensively abroad, and served overseas, and are not at all squeamish, but the condition of the shower coupled with the other cons made us seriously rethink our hotel choice. If there was another hotel/motel in the town -- which there is not -- we would likely have changed. So we just bought a large bottle of bleach, pourted it on the grout and shower curtain, waited, and the problem went away. If we had paid $50 for the room -- which seems more realistic given the location (Richwood isn't a thriving metropolis by any stretch of the imagination) and condition of the room -- I'd have let this all slide without a TripAdvisor comment. But if you're going to charge me $80+ for a room, then don't make ME clean it for you. That said, with a clean shower, walls, and carpet we would actually stay there again.
