They made it so easy to come up multiple times to get a feel for the venue and Jennifer was always responsive. I attended a wedding here as a bridesmaid less than a week ago and I am still thinking about how amazing it was. Bridal Veil Lakes is so dreamy, it is the perfect spot to tie the knot if you're a lover of forests, all things green, nature, and beauty. My review does not do this place justice. The nature alone is the perfect backdrop for pictures. It felt so peaceful and calm while being there. There's plenty of space for all the activities. There's a bathroom on site. Everything from the exotic flowers to the glass mirror lake is all well maintained. You can tell they take very good care of this place. It shows. The staff was also very friendly before the wedding and during. The only bad thing to say is the parking. Because of its private location tucked up in the mountains, it's quite the journey to travel to. I'm talking, no paved roads, fences, you're off of a ledge sometimes which could look scary and I don't remember seeing much light there either. Our shuttle drivers were new to this venue and it was a headache getting. Guests there. Just be prepared for the parking and commuting situation. Know it's not easy and will take time. I love weddings!!! This location was beautiful, intimate and secluded. Drive up was on an unpaved driveway. Questionable at times, it made the ride up nerve wrecking and unpredictable. What would of been helpful is if the venue provided larger signs assuring the guest that their headed in the correct direction. Needless to say, the venue was worth while once you arrive. The scenery, sounds and atmosphere is beautiful. TIP: No need to wear heels. It's dirt and grass all around. read more

Bridal Veil Lakes is a little man-made lake area up the hill from Bridal Veil out in the scenic Columbia River Gorge. Up a mostly one-lane dirt road from the Historic Columbia River Highway lies a beautifully crafted and landscaped area with a nice little lake surrounded by manicured grounds, tall trees, some outdoor covered pavilions, and a plethora of picturesque spots. I had the good fortune to attend a wedding at this spot, and I'm not sure if Disney with all it's plastic and paint could have crafted a more perfectly magical spot. A little ceremony spot sits on one side of the lake, backed by a hillside and the light sounds of a rush of water. On grass and surrounded by trees, the setting is a verdant green. Behind the bride and groom sits the reflective lake rimmed with reeds and wildflowers, with trees, some small quaint looking pavilions and the gorge beyond. Butterflies were flitting through the air around the guests (no, they didn't cart 'em in... they're just there naturally). Across the lake stand the covered gazebos and a canopy of trees under which tables, dance floors and buffets can be set up. The pea gravel under foot on the pavilion side is pretty annoying, but it's better than dust or mud, so I guess I can't complain. The lake allows for all sorts of fun activities during the reception. A host of canoes are available for some romantic paddling around (or possibly drunken races) and a walk to the NW side of the lake rim affords a beautiful view of sunset behind the scenic gorge. Bathroom facilities are adequate, there is hidden space to prepare food, and enough of all the right utilities to make everything happen smoothly. Overall, an incredibly picturesque place to get married and attend a wedding. Every which way you turn you see green and beauty. The way the manicured lawns and carefully sculpted lake blend in with the thick native undergrowth and trees makes it seem like this place was meant to be exactly in this spot, exactly how it is. Not knowing how much it costs (I was just a guest), I think I can properly call it a true hidden gem. I'm sure it can't be cheap to hold a ceremony here, but the beautiful serene outdoor setting is something that you really can't even put a price on. read more

I got married at Bridal Veil Lakes recently and it was beautiful. We saved so much time & money on decorations by keeping things simple and just letting the beauty of the setting shine through. As far as what you get for the price, it's a great deal. Most of the places that we looked at, during our search for the perfect wedding spot, wanted way too much for way too little. (Like a couple thousand for 4 hours in the garden and then you have to be out. Or you have to use the alcohol and catering provided by that venue and pay their catering prices, small guest limits, things like that. ) Bridal Veil Lakes, on the other hand, is specifically for weddings. There isn't a hotel on-site or a caterer, which worked out perfectly for our wedding needs. They let you have the area for the whole wedding day from 9am to midnight. You get to do whatever you want, as far as catering, alcohol, number of guests(I think their limit is around 300 guests, or something, we didn't have nearly that many, so I'm not sure). The site includes a huge grill, a big fridge and separate (equally large) freezer, covered patio areas, and gorgeous surroundings. The Bridal Veil staff member gives you all the info about the technical stuff when you go on the scheduled tour with them. Anyway, it was really beautiful, the Bridal Veil staff(it's a family owned and operated business) are very nice and helpful and super easy to deal with. I have no complaints about anything. I have to give this one the ever elusive five star rating. If you are getting married, and you're THINKING about Bridal Veil Lakes as your venue, GO THERE, take the tour, and you'll be sold. Believe me! (Disclaimer: I have to say, I haven't been there during the winter, but it's the gorge, it's beautiful all year round, right?) We were married here a month ago and no other spot in Portland comes close to this one for beauty (I've lived in Portland for 38 years, so I've been to a lot of venues). It is stunning all summer and fall. (Not so nice in the winter and spring--it's all outdoors and the grasses and flowers die back all during the cold season.) We thought it might be windy, being on the gorge, but it was no more windy than downtown Portland! The rates were a bit high for me so we went with Sunday. Friday is even lower, I think. I loved the canoes--the best part of our wedding, everyone said. We were glad we brought a large propane umbrella heater for the twilight hours. Rain came at the last minute for us and the tent was a life saver. The owners, who live nearby, were very hands-off during the whole day--I'm sure they checked in on us, but I never saw them. It's nice to be so trusted. There is a lot of work involved if you want a DIY wedding. You'll need a team of helpers for sure--putting your tables and chairs out and decorating and catering. There was some miscommunication with our party and they left out the round tables when we were using oblong ones, but that only took a few minutes to remedy. We also ended up using the giant bbq grill there on site which made preparing the salmon my husband had caught very easy and worry free. We had a hundred guests, so tablecloths were one of the biggest costs for us. I made my own for about half of them. Otherwise not much decorating is needed--it would almost steal from the natural beauty of the place. I used small lanterns in the open windows facing the lake, but I didn't need much more than those and very simple centerpieces. Thanks for the tip about using a PA system. We got a good value from Pdx Outdoor Cinema, in SE Portland. I had no idea where to go for this, so I'm glad we found Jeff, the owner. Now he knows the lay of the lake, so use him if you can! read more

We had our wedding at BVL this past July and it provided the perfect backdrop to our dream wedding. It's everything that people describe - magical, romantic, secluded - and so much more! We visited back in November when it was pouring rain, and chose the venue that weekend knowing that it would be beautiful in the summer. We had originally booked a September date, but was able to move it up to mid-July due to a cancellation, so don't lose hope if many the dates are booked when you check! Since it's completely outdoors, we checked the weather websites religiously and did our best rain-dance, but you'll also want to have a back-up plan and BVL will even put you in touch with the couples getting married your weekend to share tent rentals, if you request. Judy, the owner gave us a tour and she is so sweet - you could tell that they truly love and care for the place as it is family-operated. Jennifer, the coordinator, is easy to work with and allowed us to visit the venue leading up to the wedding for walk-through (though not on weekends if there's a wedding going on). Though getting to the venue can be challenging as other reviewers mentioned, we rented school buses through First Student and our guests got there safely and comfortably. It's totally worth it to trek a little farther out for a truly special place that doesn't exist anywhere else in the Portland metro area, or perhaps even Oregon. From the groomsmen entrance in canoes (which was a total riot and a hit with the guests) to the closing-out-the-night dance party underneath the gazebo, the entire venue could not be any more perfect. Some other considerations: - It's DIY, but they provide all the tables and chairs that you'd need for up to 300 people. That means you can choose all your own vendors, which can save a lot more in the long run. We ended up utilizing Something Borrowed for our rentals and it made the place so much more special. - The bathroom is super clean and modern, but there's only one and its located by the entrance and gazebos, so plan accordingly the day of your wedding if you happen to be on the ceremony side taking lots of photos! - They provide an arch but you have the option to use it or not, or bring in your own backdrop (we opted for a chuppah) - There are some bugs on the ceremony side in the evening, so remember to offer your guests bug spray if you plan on spending time there - You'll seat ~150 people comfortably underneath the covered tent and open pavilion, but many more than that, and some of your tables might need to be arranged in the gravel / grass area read more

I had my wedding here in mid June, and my guests and I had an amazing event. First off, the grounds were bursting with flowers, and it's clear that a lot of effort was put into caring for the grounds. The "lake", a lovely pond in the center of the venue, was a delight for my guests, and we were provided with 4 canoes and enough life vests for everyone interested in taking a post-reception paddle. Second, they've done a quality job with managing the amount of shade on the grounds. The property is ringed with loads of mature trees that provide a solid amount of shade. Want a sun soaked morning or evening event? There's a large field too. We had a quick cocktail hour there overlooking the gorge, and the view is positively breathtaking. This venue handles up to 100 guests well. They can go up to 300, but I'd recruit some parking attendants as they don't map out parking spaces at the lot at the bottom of the hill. For those guests who can't make the flight of stairs up, there are handicaps spaces (enough for one or two cars) at the top near the restrooms. read more

Bridal Veil Lakes....wow!!! What an absolutely gorgeous place! My sister had been searching a ton of options on where to finally tie the knot. When her and her (husband to be) found this place, they knew their search was over. After reviewing as much as I could possibly find out about this place, I could see why the choice was so easy. Sitting on 40 acres, surrounded by a hundred year old forest, right next to a pristine lake, it truly is remarkable and will provide wonderful memories for years to come. The wedding is set for July 9th. I will make sure to take lots of pictures of the property and will return here to update this review. I realize I'm only going off of what I have learned so far and have not had the "full blown" experience as of yet. Hopefully my updated review will provide enough detailed info to let you decide whether this place is perfect for your next wedding or not. Bridal Veil Lakes is a remote out of the way event venue that is postcard material. My cousin planned her wedding reception out here, and the views and venue are gorgeous. There are a few drawbacks. Getting to the venue can be a challenge, because the signage isn't well posted, and some of the dirt roads and inclines can put a strain on some cars. The other drawback is that the venue (like the wooden Pavilion) has no heat lamps. Maybe it's a California thing, but when my hands are freezing and it's hard to hold a fork, I'd call that a drawback. read more

My wife and I consider ourselves very lucky to have had our wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes. The venue is literally breathtaking and our guests couldn't stop gushing about it. Our photographer had a blast shooting there and the pictures turned out phenomenally! When we first visited the site, I was pretty sure both of us were not going to be satisfied with anything else. The price tag is pretty high, but it is "worth every penny" as one family member commented. If you have a decent budget for your wedding and you want to be in the beauty of nature, go to BVL. Judy - one of the owners - was very hospitable and helpful, and every time we visited, we had great service. Several factors stood out to us as pros: They have chairs and tables, enough for up to 250 guests, which was more than enough for our ~160. They have no restrictions on vendors, so you can pick out whatever food and drink you want. Some covered space for dining and dancing (wasn't enough to cover everyone during dinner, but luckily we didn't have any rain). It was ideal for having a one location wedding, i.e. ceremony and reception within walking distance. The access road is a little primitive, but we didn't get any complaints. We held a wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes this summer and it was everything we expected it to be (and then some). We were looking for a place that would highlight the natural beauty of the northwest, give us total vendor control and not have difficult time restrictions. That wasn't easy to fulfill but Bridal Veil turned out to be an exact match. The owners basically treat it as a park you can rent out that happens to have some pretty great amenities for a wedding. You don't need to do a lot of decorations. Nature pretty much handles that for you and Bridal Veil has some of their own nice touches to add to it. Overall, the place is great and you can't help but have an awesome wedding at this venue. Here's some advice based on our experience: - Use a caterer that knows what they're doing on site. It's not a traditional venue and it seems to make a big difference having someone out there that knows the area. Catering is the biggest part of a wedding there. Table set up and tear down, running the bars, serving the food and a few other misc. things all come down to the caterer so you want to get that part right. We used Eat Your Heart Out Catering and they did a great job. - Use the canoes! People loved how we incorporated the canoes on the lake into the ceremony and we had a lot of fun with it. The only regret was people didn't know they could use them freely so no one ever got out on the lake. - Make sure you know what you're doing with parking and have someone that can direct cars as they come in. The parking is tricky and I still don't know how it was done, but they explain it to you at the rehearsal. Bring whoever is doing parking with you. Even better, rent a shuttle. We used one for people that didn't want to drive. - Discourage heels. They will sink into the grass. We bought about 30 pairs of $1 flip flops at Old Navy for the heel wearers to change into. - Bring your own signs. It can he helpful to have a few signs to help direct people and supplement the signs already on site. - Set up audio at the ceremony site across the lake. It makes a big difference for people to have the wedding mic'ed up so they can hear what's going on. - Make it a party. The place is too much fun and you just have to be loose with it. People can watch the sunset over the gorge, canoe, walk around, dance, drink, eat, play with the kids, ride the swingset and so on. Because the venue it so free to operate with, the only thing that can hold you back is your imagination. Take some risks and do some fun stuff and your guests will have a great time. read more

Bridal Veil Lakes was the most amazing, magical, lovely venue. I can't imagine any other place I would wanted to host the best party of my life at. Here's a little list of what sold us on BVL as our venue: - It's a one stop shop. Aside from a little place settings at dinner, it's so beautiful and fully stocked that there's nothing else you'd want to change. There are 100's of chairs, tables of all sizes, a beautiful arch, a pavilion and a tent, and beautiful natural decorations. - They give you free reign on vendors. We could pick the food we wanted, the music we wanted, and the bar service we wanted. - They have a really simple payment plan. We booked a year in advance, and we mailed checks every month with no interest added until it was all paid off. - The service was great. Jennifer was quick to respond to any question I had, and helped guide me through the process sans wedding planner. - I thought the canoes were a little cheesy, but everyone loved them the day of the wedding. Our friends had a great time taking them out. - Our photographer freaked out. Our guests freaked out. I freaked out. It was so beautiful. I was recently married at Bridal Veil Lakes. It is an absolutely amazing venue! After searching all over for venues I found BVL. They allow you to rent the entire area for the whole day, which is amazing as other places wanted us in and out within a few hours. We were able to do a lot of DIY wedding stuff because they do not require you to have a certain caterer. My only suggestion if you choose to have your amazing wedding here is to choose vendors who have been here before, it makes the set up and planning easier come day of. Everyone who attended my wedding commented on how beautiful the place was and how much fun they had. They allow you to take canoes out on the lake and a lot of the children were happy to go out with their parents and paddle around. It made for great photos of my groom picking me up in a canoe. Contact them and go up and see the place, you will say "yes" once you get out of your vehicle! They are always very responsive. It is a family that owns and runs BVL. I always got nearly an instant response in email during business hours and off business hours I received a response within a day. It is an amazing place, go check it out! read more

This place is beautiful, and extremely well maintained. The staff is helpful. We made the "mistake" of scheduling at a weather risk time of year. While the risk of rain was just 30%, the reality at the day was "extreme rainfall". It was cold and all floors were soaked. We didn't see any way to have our event under the circumstances. We needed to punt and go indoors. Venue costs were totally non refundable, and no offer for any settlement on their part. We could not help but leave with a bad taste about this. I just got married here and we absolutely loved the venue. The Bridal Veil owners are really great - they lay out all of the planning considerations way before the day of so you can really plan well. The power to the ceremony site was not working and I called one of the owners and he picked up right away and talked the DJ through the problem and we were good to go in plenty of time. The photos turned out amazingly. We choose this location because we were able to DYI many of the elements. The surrounding is so beautiful we only brought minimal decorations. The fact that you can bring your own food and drink really helps keep the cost down. Use a caterer that knows the place. We use Laurie's Catering and couldn't have been happier. http://www.cateringbylaurie.com/ She knew the venue, the food was excellent and her staff was so professional. We used the canoes during the reception and everyone had a blast! Only problem is that there is so much to do (canoe, walk around lake, swing, watch sun set, photobooth (we use Photobooth for You), it was hard for us to get a good group of people dancing - but I guess that it is a good problem to have at an event. Only downside is it is a bit of a drive from PDX and the road is steep. However the people who make it out there defiantly have a good time. We used a shuttle to take people back and forth and that worked great (First Student Bus Company). Book early - we booked a year and a half in advanced so we could get a day we knew it wouldn't rain. We got married in August and it was 95 in Portland that day but by the lake it was cool, shaded and breezy - just perfect. read more

A dream location! Bridal Veil Lakes is the most magical place to have a wedding. I found this place online while living on the East Coast and immediately knew it was the location for our wedding. We viewed it via facetime and during the winter months. Seeing it in the spring and then the summer for our wedding was incredible. The beauty is absolutely breathtaking, like a fairytale! We loved the freedom of the location as well; access from 9am till midnight, which is very appealing for couples that are looking for a more relaxed schedule of events during their big day. Our main goal was to have a big celebration, which indeed we were able to have. We watched the total solar eclipse by the lake while setting up in the morning and then watched the sun go down over the gorge- moments we will cherish forever. Our guests were in complete awe at how beautiful BVL is. We loved being able to use the canoes and having a dance party till 11pm! The staff is wonderful to work with, so kind and patient when dealing with chaos during our rehearsal/walk through. They also gave us a wonderful gift! It's been 2 weeks since the wedding and still people are talking about how magical and beautiful our wedding venue was. Hearing about the horrible fires going on in Oregon right now broke our hearts, we hope that BVL is not affected by them! read more

I just got married at Bridal Veil Lakes 11 days ago, and I'm STILL reeling from the happiness and enchantment of that day. Just back from my honeymoon, I am eager and excited to share the great news of this venue with the world. Nothing else compares. PERIOD. I decided to go with a very intimate gathering for my wedding, having only 35 guests, which means we really could have done this anywhere. But something about this place stole my heart the moment I laid eyes on their website. While this place could boast a party of 400, I adored the way just ONE of their covered pavilions could house one large family table for dinner. With the serene lake in the backdrop and green everywhere! there was no need to decorate. I added special touches of DIY projects to my dessert table and the family dinner table, but nothing else was necessary. For an October wedding, I knew we'd be risking rain. And it did rain while we set up that morning. But by 2pm when we jumped in the boat for our vows, the rain cleared and it was a beautiful, perfect October day. Even if it HAD rained, the place is very well equipped for coverage and would still have been beautiful. Plenty of electrical outlets, a fantastic huge prep space for whomever is catering your wedding (our friend cooked!), 4 canoes, cute bulbs lining the interiors of the pavilions, and flowers and trees everywhere. My husband and I exchanged private vows in the center of the lake in a canoe before rowing in for our ceremony, which gave us a beautiful and much needed quiet moment alone before our big moment. I cannot say enough about this place: the kindness of Judy (the owner), the ease of planning this day, the number of amenities they offer (tables, chairs, trellis, pavilions, cooking space, grill, etc), and the ease of choosing who YOU want to go through for your vendors.
