I should've gotten pizza. First, the water was served warm, no ice. The macaroni and cheese was absolutely flavorless, there was no salt or pepper on the table to even try to season it with. The wedge salad could've been decent, but it was served with no knife, so I had to tear it apart with my fingers. I won't say it was horrible, but for $100 meal in total, we had higher expectations. Went for dinner the one night we were in town on a road trip. Website recommended a reservation, so we called in advance to make sure they could accommodate us. They did. Everything we had was very good. The bread is tasty - you make your own dipping oil. I had the grilled caesar salad / very good. My husband had the black bean / corn soup - he loved it. And I thought it was good too. We shared the sausage pizza...plenty of food with our apps. My husband liked the pizza more than me, but it was still good...tasted like homemade crust, as advertised. The waitress was very friendly, and knowledgeable about all the food and drink. To finish off dinner, we tried the tiramisu and one dark chocolate truffle. The truffle is amazing - try it! I really like the food at this restaurant, but I went there for lunch one day and the salad I had gotten was like $9 and the soda was $2.50, and when the bill came is was like $20.00...needless to say, their wait staff needs to be retrained. read more

The food was good but not great. Service was horrible. I looked at the reviews for this place and decided to go here, thinking the food and service will be great. Turns out to be the opposite. I went in, confused on how I can order to go. No signs or instructions on where to order and a waitress told us we have to order at the counter, but the only person I see behind the counter is the cook. She then decide to take my order for me. I ordered a Wild Mushroom Cobbler, Fettina Steak, and Smoked Beef Ribs to go and the employees told me it will be about 25 minutes until it is ready. I told the waitress I will be waiting at my car right in front of the restaurant. Keep in mind, they are only doing outdoor seating due to COVID-19 and I am visible to them so when my food is ready, they know where I am. I waited about an hour and decided to walk back into the restaurant to see if my food is ready. I see a bag of food on the counter that might be mine but waited for the employees to let me know my food is ready or to hand me my food instead of picking up the bag myself (which could possibly be mistaken for someone else's food). As I waited inside to be helped, the waitress who took my order just looked at me and passed by me to attend her tables. Another employee was helping customers with payment. I had to reach out to the employee to ask if my food was ready and guess what?! The food on the counter that was sitting there for I don't know how long was mine! The food was on the colder end of warm when I picked it up. I didn't get any notice from any of the employees that my food was ready, especially from the waitress who helped me take my order. I was in front of the restaurant waiting and was completely visible and ignored. Went inside and was also completely visible and ignored by the same waitress. I worked in food service so I know when it's busy and I know what good customer service is. This place has horrible service. There are only 5 tables outside for outdoor dining and I understand we are in tough times due to COVID-19 and they could possibly be short staff but they're definitely not short staff. If they were short on workers, it would be the back of house and not the front. 4 tables (each table with two customers) out of 5 was filled and that is a piece of cake to manage. The food was pretty much cold when I ate it due to the wait. And I also did not receive any utensils to go so how am I suppose to eat my food? So I used my hands. Yes, I had to use my hands to eat since I'm traveling. The food was subpar, overpriced and the portion size was small, especially the mushroom cobbler. Beef ribs was okay and the steak was decent. Maybe if it was still hot and warm when I received it, maybe it would be good but the service was horrible and my food was cold. Love the food here..especially the wild mushroom cobbler (definitely order this!). They have great pizza and a good wine selection. Warm cozy environment inside and nice servers. My only complaint is that they were closing shop around us at 8 p.m. I know they close at 8:30 but we had only been there an hour and felt super rushed to leave because they even turned off almost all the lights at this time and flipping some chairs at 8:00. My husband had the sausage pizza. The crust was to die for. Come to find out they import the floor from Italy. You can tell. I had the Italian mac and cheese. First, it comes out EXTREMELY hot (temperature wise). Yes, my tongue is still recovering a little. That is because they put it in the pizza oven to get crispy on the top. It is served with the most amazing and refreshing salad with a light dressing on it. If they are serving their focaccia that day, don't think about it...just order it. Trying to cut back on bread...NOPE...NOPE...NOPE...not the day you visit Brick & Fire. Just order it. Also you will be ordering dessert. You MUST get the chocolate Italian cheesecake with their coffee. I know it is summer time and it is hot out. Trust me. It must be eaten with a cup of their delicious coffee. We weren't even staying in Eureka. We went to mail a package while on vacation in Crescent City. We honestly though several times about going back to drive the 85 miles back to eat there again. I've heard such good things and have wanted to eat here for at least a year. I got my chance earlier this month when my hubby and I found ourselves in Eureka for an impromptu date night. The place is really nice... totally off the beaten path, in a residential neighborhood. It's small... romantic. The service was great, and so was the food. Only word of warning is, it's hot in there because of the brick oven... That would make it super cozy in the fall and winter months.. but it was a bit oppressive for a night in early August! I ordered the Salumi Plate and hubby got the Stuffed Squid Appetizer. For an entrée, I got the Italian Mac & Cheese, while he ordered the Steak. They brought us a variety of fresh baked breads, all of them were delicious. I enjoyed the Salumi Plate quite a bit, and had plenty to share. Hubby said the Stuffed Squid was great... I did not partake... The Italian Mac and Cheese was fabulous, and steaming hot to the last bite... I tried hubby's Steak and it was so tender and really well seasoned... the gratin side on his dish was also quite tasty. All in all, we had a delightful, if extremely high priced, meal. But, it was one of those occasions where, despite it being pretty expensive, we felt it was worth it! read more

Wow! We went here the 1st time as a couple for our pre-Valentine's dinner. It was excellent. The service, the food and the atmosphere were all top notch. The spring salads were huge and delicious. Maybe I was just expecting more based on what I'd read in the reviews, but this place just wasn't doing it for me. Or maybe I'm just spoiled with good restaurants here in the bay. We came here to celebrate my sister's graduation from HSU earlier in the day. I ordered the mushroom cobbler to start and it was just ok. I shared the polenta lasagna with my sister based on a portion size described to us by our server. The portion was tiny, even for one. We seriously only had 2 or 3 bites each. The redeeming factor for this place was the nutella creme brulee. Not bad. What really bothered me about this place was the clientele. I am in no way saying I'm better than anyone else, but I have the common sense not to lurk right behind a table of a large party and talk shit. Another large party that was waiting for our spot just stood next to our chairs and loudly talked about how they wished we would "hurry the f@#$ up." Excuse the hell out of me, but we were eating plenty fast and trying to get out of this mediocre restaurant as quickly as possible. My husband and I went there last night for his birthday dinner with another couple. We had called the night before and made reservations for 5:30 PM. We also requested a window table. The gentleman that my husband spoke to said that it was no problem. When we arrived the maître d' said our reservation i was at 5 o'clock and they had our table reserved for seven so we would have to hurry. I was upset because this had happened once before on our anniversary. We had called two days previous and made a reservation and when we got to the restaurant they didn't have a reservation. So while the food was excellent as usual I can never fault any of their food it's always so beautifully done I think that they could definitely improve on their reservation taking and how they treat their customers when they arrive. Kudos to them for being able to stay open during Covid.we're so happy because we love their restaurant but I really was so disappointed when they screwed up our reservations again. read more

On our second attempt to dine here, we knew to make a reservation, even on a weeknight. We were seated promptly and looked forward to the place that so many had raved about. I had the house red, a delicious barbera. We shared a cheese place, which was delightful. The honey, walnuts, apples, and pears all had a role in enhancing the variety of cheeses (some domestic, some European). We agreed, though, that we should have ordered it after dinner. I got the 'brick bird', a nicely roasted game hen. The rice pilaf on the side was not to my taste. I'm not sure if the rice was overcooked, or if there was something sweet added...something about it turned me off. My boyfriend was excited to try the pizza. After all, isn't that what "Brick and Fire" is all about? The house-made sausage sounded great, but in the end it was just mildly seasoned ground pork to him. The crust was the most disappointing. I felt he was being harsh in comparing it to frozen pizza crust, but it definitely wasn't the best. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and they do seem to care about the food they serve. The ambiance is certainly nice. It's casual, with info on a chalkboard, a few counter seats by the brick oven, and paper table cloths make it a cozy neighborhood bistro. Very interesting to have a view of the organized chaos of the kitchen. Ambience: The place is very small. Seating for about 30. Sour. Meat. Cheese. Spinach. Awesome! Main course- Black Bird - fire roasted game hen over rice with a melody of seeds. The bird was very tasty and spiced just right. It was a tad bit dry but they smoky taste kind of played well with that. I went with the recommended wine pairing and it was perfect. Polenta lasagna. Smoky flavor with roasted red peppers and eggplant with a side salad of spring greens. Slightly sweet but the cheese balanced out the flavors. Almost a pizza like taste. Very good. Desert - creme brûlée. Very chocolaty. Had fresh cut strawberries on top and under the crust a very sweet chocolate creme. Very delicious. Overall: A very fun and exciting time. So glad to be back in Eureka and eating at a favorite spot! They prefer you make reservations so we did. They put us in their Wine Bar spot which is next door to the restaurant. What a great spot. Felt like a small italian bistro with about 5 tables in a cozy spot. they have a small bar but due to covid were only allowing one person at the bar. Loved the ambiance. The service was great; our waitress was friendly and amazing at making sure everyone was taken care of. We shared the carpaccio and calamari. Dont forget its not your basic calamari! Its 3 stuffed calamaris which are unique and taste great. Had the fig and pig pizza and the flank steak dinner plate. The food was amazing as always. Would definitely eat at the Wine Bar again. This place is worth a visit. Small town restaurant packs a big punch. I think Triple D made a stop there before?... We call to ask if we need to make a reservation and the lady on the other end said that would probably be a good idea. We were there in 15 minutes for an early dinner. Brick and Fire is super charming. It was so nice sitting at one of their little tables out front on the sidewalk with umbrellas that had little white lights overhead. We ordered the polenta lasagna and the braised greens - well actually we ordered the organic roasted vegetables but we were served the braised greens and just kept them. The polenta lasagna was excellent however it was cold in the middle not just not hot but literally cold like it had been refrigerated. We did not send it back for reheating because we were too hungry. The braised greens were good a little bit too much lemon for me but we still enjoyed them. The servers were very friendly and accommodating and we would definitely return here and I would likely order the same thing again and hopefully get the roasted vegetables next time. On a foodie road trip and using a combination of yelp, triple d, various magazine reviews and personal suggestions to eat our way up to Seattle and then back down through Portland to the Bay Area. Our first dinner was here a Brick and Fire Bistro. We didn't make a reservation in advance the place was packed when we walked in around 7:30pm. We left our name and went two doors down to Two Doors Down, their sister wine bar. There we ordered a sparkling wine for me and a sweet Riesling for her. We also ordered an appetizer but before she could turn it in, we were called to return to the restaurant, our table was ready. For apps, we ordered the Shrimp Stuffed Calamari, Wild Mushroom Cobbler, and Romaine & Spinach Caesar. For entrees, we had the Fish of the Day, Wild Ling Cod , and a House-made Italian Sausage Pizza. For dessert, we split a Maple flavored Ice Cream with Bacon served with a madeline cookie and 1/2 strawberry. The atmosphere both at Two Doors Down and in Brick and Fire were inviting and hip. All of the wait staff were friendly, made eye contact and smiled at every guest. Any questions were quickly answered and changes in ordering were accepted with grace and composure. The appetizers that we had were outstanding. The mushroom cobbler was a tad salty on first bite but then mellowed out and when the ramekin was empty, there were just too many people around to give a quick lick. The egg on the salad added flavor and texture to the salad and took it to a higher place. The only thing that could make the calamari better would be to put in some chunks of shrimp instead of just shrimp mousse. But overall, it was still awesome! The pizza was good but i'm a bit jaded having had the best at Patsy's in NYC and Tony's Neapolitan in San Francisco. The housemade sausage was good but I like a thinner, crisper crust. The Ling Cod was perfect according to my dining companion. I thought it was just a tad dry but I usually will not order grilled fish anyway. Dessert was okay but nothing special. Pricing was reasonable for everything but the dessert. I would rather pay more for a larger dessert. We will definitely come back for more calamari and to try other items on the menu when we're in the area. read more

A perfect night. The dinner was incredible and so was our server Allison. We ordered a delicious glass of Grenache wine and the super Tuscan (awesome wine list) along with a marg pizza, a Caesar salad, and baked oysters. It was so good we enjoyed every second.
