Barely 3 stars. Not a place to go for a date or spending time with your significant other. Bar area next to dining area was so loud and several drunk obnoxious people. So not to only focus on surroundings and the atmosphere we focused on food. Tostones with crab meat are to die for... probably one of the best appetizers I have ever had. Well done. Main entree was okay. Nothing special and nothing to brag about. We both had pasta don't remember the name of dish but the sauce was basic and $6 to add a few small shrimp was not worth it. Our waitress said she would be back in 10-15 to make a delivery.... Wait what? Yes I couldn't believe it either. Wine was not cold enough and my old fashion was not up to par. So we spent $100 bucks on a basic dinner for two. Yes we tipped our waitress 20% it's not her fault on the layout, atmosphere, basic food taste, and poor bar tending. Had dinner, again at BRIAN'S for New Years Eve. They offered a special menu with an option for a wine flight to go along with each of the four courses. Many places on a night like this, cannot live up to their promises. Brian not only lived up to his normal outstanding quality, he exceeded it. Each course was good enough to stand alone, and the matching wines were superb. Absolutely fantastic!!! Love was put into the food. We had an amazing crab crusted ribeye, incredibly tender lamb, GIANT coconut shrimp, and delicious tostones with fresh crab!! The bread pudding and fried cheesecake for dessert were wonderful. Executive Chef Brian came out and introduced himself to our family which was a lovely touch and the service was outstanding. Four of dined there tonight. Food and service both excellent. Help all wore masks and since we has reservations were seated immediately. Waitress gave us our water and took our drink orders as soon as we sat down. Wasted no time in filling our drink orders, then presented the menus. Orders were taken, appetizers shortly brought, which were all delicious. Warm rolls arrived and while listening to a wonderful entertainer, Stan Preston, dinner orders arrived which were beautifully presented and all agreed happy with the food. I was so excited about stopping here for brunch because the sound of guava syrup on Cuban style french toast is what dreams are made of. We got there early and there was only 2 other tables there. We were seated outside which was nice. But the problem was the service. Our waitress was not interested in serving at all. I said I knew what I wanted and I came specifically for the guava syrup and french toast. She brings out our food and there's no syrup. I had to track down a different guy to bring me syrup. Had I waited for her to check back my food would have been cold and eaten by the flies. It took her a full 24 minutes to check back on us and that was only after I went into the restaurant and asked her to bring our check as we had finished eating more than 10 minutes prior. We had breakfast here on 12/24/16. My boyfriend ordered The Italian Latin Breakfast. It came with 3 eggs, chorizo and Italian sausage, home fries, and toast. I ordered steak and eggs. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium). I also had 3 scrambled eggs and home fries. I choose the marble toast. The toast was thick and fresh. The most expensive and elegant stuff they have tops out at $28. I enjoyed this restaurant it had a upscale feel to it. A band was playing for customers outside the front of the establishment. A bar is located inside and water front seating is at the rear of the building via a lake/marsh not the Gulf. The food was not the best thing I've ever had but it was good and they had wide variety of classy well portioned and careful organized for appeal type dishes. This place gives you enough food to fill you up and it's steaming hot nothing I got was cold. My dish came with a salad that included bruschetta and you get free bread to eat while you wait. I live in Tampa and between the corporate copies we have the same amount of creative unique delicious choices. Most places around Hernando county are corporate copies or down-scale restaurants. Brian's place was recommended to me by my family who live in the area. They enjoy the all you can eats and low budget spots. I wasn't thrilled to follow their recommendation and I wasn't in charge of the dinner location. Being so, I did not even bother to yelp it first. I'm not too much of a priss, I can always go with the flow and find something on any menu. Brian's place doesn't catch your eye when you drive by. I did like the shaded front patio area that has been added since someone last photo yelped the building. We sat on the patio but my eyes gleamed as I opened the door. The tables are simple yet classy and the wine walls give you the Italian elements. Finally something that feels causal yet up scale at the same time. Wines are very reasonably priced. I worked at a wine bar so it was good to see they didn't just have a plain "house" option. They have some good middle of the road options like a white haven similar to Kim Crawford or a William hill. ($7) my husband had a double Tito ($10) The service was very team ordinated, It was great. I forgot our servers name but she was a very tall slender older (50's give or take) female with long hair. We saw my husbands classmate from Tampa...she happened to deliver some of our drinks (Stephanie) I am terrible with names. So, back to the review... the service was hospitable and engaging. We saw many faces deliver our waters, cocktails, and food. The only odd moment we had was when our drinks and waters came out spastically. Who cares, Nothing to complain about. The menu is adventurous but not too far off the cliff. I love Italian and I am Spanish but I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a fusion-usually most places miss the mark. We had the tuna ceviche ($7-9). The taste was amazing- traditional and the balsamic on the bread brought it to Italy. [The bread was too thick for how hard it was] I understand their crouton concept. The flavor was top notch. For dinner I ordered the shrimp pappardelle. Omg the flavor was fresh and light (thanks to the wine sauce). The portions were perfect for the prices ($15). Not too skimpy and plenty before you reach a gluttonous level. I can't forget about the Caesar salad. I am not a huge salad person however you can tell it was from scratch and DE-LIC-OUS. Desert..... Mmm I know I had it but I forgot what I ordered. Either way, all their options were unique and did not disappoint. Our dinner mates had the guava cheesecake but I forgot what I ordered. My aunt/uncle have a house on the canals. When they leave in October to Holliday we will be house sitting and we will visit Brian's @ least once maybe twice that week Thank you a wonderful meal B.A. *side note. I have been in food service for 10+. I'm pretty sure all your stuff is house made and I see (from yelp) that the fish is local. Get the servers to push that fact. I went to Brian's on Wednesday night. There were about 20 of us In my group. Reservations were made well in advance. The room was set up and waiting for us when we (the first of our party) arrived about 45 minutes early. Our waiter could not have been more personable. I really adored him. (I'm irritated at myself I cannot remember his name). Anyway, he took our cocktail orders. Two of us ordered the special cocktail of the evening which was a Cuban Old Fashioned. It was absolutely delicious! However, when I got my bill and saw it was $13, I thought it was definitely way overpriced. I ordered one of their signature dishes, Crab Pasta Enchilado. It was nothing but awful. It was canned crab (full of shells) on top of canned tomatoes, with 4 or 5 spinach leaves, and no seasoning whatsoever, over penne pasta. I ate about 5 bites. The last 4 bites because I could not believe how bad it was, and thought it had to get better. Finally, starving, I ordered dessert of bread pudding, and it was delicious, although one of my table mates got it as well and said he thought it was just okay. I did not say anything because I was in a large group and frankly, because the waiter was so good. This afternoon I was out with another person in my party, and she brought up that her meal was terrible! She had the balsamic grilled chicken, and found the chicken tough, the beans too hard to chew, and the potato it all rested on was obviously pre-cooked then heated back up. She did not eat it either. To add insult to injury, the ticket for my meal came to $58+. I do not recommend. read more

I'm giving 4 stars, 3 stars for the food and 5 stars to Halliegh our waitress. The food on the menu sounds delicious and worthy of the price. But it just didn't deliver on taste. I had blackened grouper special that was cooked perfectly but there was barely any seasoning. Blackened is supposed to be spicy enough to feel the heat on the back of your tongue. The sauce and vegetables had just a little too much of a bitter vinegar like taste for me. We also had a dion crab cake that was good and pretty moist but needed a drizzle of sauce to finish off. Now our waitress Halliegh was one of the best I've ever had. She knew the cocktails and especially the menu. She's obviously sampled and knows how to explain the items we asked about. She even recommended a few of her favorites. She is sweet, kind and very personable. We will probably come try it again as it was hard to decide what to order because everything sounded delicious. What a little gem here in Hernando! I brought my mom to Brian's Place on a Saturday evening at 4:30 and unbeknownst to us, you're supposed to call ahead on a weekend but luckily they had a table open. From the adds that I've seen in the paper we didn't think this place was classy. The design of the title "Brian's Place" suggests it's more of a beach bar, low key place in my mind. On the contrary it's rather nice inside. We were greeted by our served immediately and notified about their "Early Bird Special" which was $10 and included your choice of soup AND salad, a smaller portion of a main entree and unlimited hot bread with butter. I ordered their potato soup, caesar salad and crispy salmon with yellow rice and plantains and my mom ordered a salad with balsamic vinaigrette, vegetable soup and shrimp linguine alla vodka. In the meantime we enjoyed their bread very much and we each had a glass of wine. My soup was delicious and you could tell it was homemade and not from a can or frozen like most restaurants. The salad was good and they served it with a large chargrilled garlic crostini on the side as opposed to croutons. My plantains were great but my salmon was on the dry side and the sauce that came with it wasn't great. I wouldn't order it again. My mom's pasta though was fabulous but it was too much for her so she ended up taking home most of it. (She's a light eater). The service was very friendly and professional. Wednesday night dinner. Waitress was a disaster. Attempted to read off Specials, sarcastic, not a clue what she was doing. When I placed my order for the steak to be cooked Med rare plus, she rudely said, " I can't do that ". Thanks to the folks over at Marker 48 Brewing for recommending this place, because it was fantastic. La Chica and I waltzed in Friday night for dinner around 6 PM. We considered sitting outside on the brand-new deck, but the traffic noise on Shoal Road would have pissed me off, so we went inside. The place wasn't packed, but that would not remain the case. Before we were to leave, it would literally be ass-to-elbow with every table accounted for. Terrible restaurants don't get packed, folks! Like I said, it wasn't busy when we first arrived, and our waiter had nothing better to do except stand in the back corner incessantly clicking his ball-point pen. Click-CLICK. Click-CLICK. Click-CLICK. Over and over and over again, until finally he started doing some work. Thank goodness it got bust because I thought I was gonna strangle his ass. I ordered a mojito to start. It's been about a year since I've had one, but the ingredients just seemed to be what the doctor ordered. It ended up being a good call because it was on point. They kept it simple, like it supposed to be! I stopped drinking these things because restaurants tried fancying them up, completely ruining the drink's integrity. Looking over the menu, one thing was apparent; the entrees are EXPENSIVE. The two dished I was most interested in were about $16 a piece. Hernando Beach must be packed with lawyers and doctors bro, because the average price of a meal was in the $13 range. Insanity! We weren't starving or experimental enough to invest that kind of coinage in the entrees, so we went small for the same price as two dinners. We ordered 3 appetizers; Cuban quesadilla, Italian sausage with mussels and Ahi tuna ceviche. These 3 appetizers gave us the confidence to come back and try and entree because they were slap-yo-mama good. Every ingredient of these apps was on point, especially the Cuban quesadilla. I'm super-critical of Cuban sandwiches, and Chef Brian hit a homerun with this version, and then topped it off with fried pickles. Not a traditional Cuban sandwich in any sense, but well executed. I think this should be in next year's Cuban Sandwich Festival's competition. Staff was all friendly, and the vibe inside was "small town Florida." There is even a small bar area for folks who like to just have a swig. I walked away a fan of what's going on here. Would I return? You bet you sweet ass I would! read more

My husband and I just moved to the area and wanted to give a new place a try. I had a restaurant.com I wanted to use but was immediately told by the waitress they no longer were associated with restaurant.com. Oh well...so, we ordered a couple of bowls of soup...YUM. This was our 5th time at Brian's over the years. We always loved it, but tonight was a bit of disappointment. We sat inside, it was so loud you couldn't hear the person sitting next to you, let alone hear the server. I got the Sangria, which had no fruit and was quite boring. One of us got the Sherry Salad, which didn't have the walnuts as listed. We asked about it, but the answer was "we are out, sorry". When we finally got our food, it was good, but it took forever. We waited an hour for our food. The server apologized, said they got a new computer system and were having trouble. Good food, creative menu, but not a fun night. This was all after there was no parking, so we had to park illegally and walk. If I spend this much on dinner, I want a good experience as well as good food. read more

The service was really friendly and they did everything right. Patty was our server she was on top of everything and was very pleasant. I suggest the duck wings...they were incredible! We had been waiting almost a year to go to Brians Place we were so excited. The menu sounded wonderful. The dining area was very nicely done, although small. First off I have to say that the karaoke guy in the corner was way to loud and not right for this restaurant. Besides being loud he took up valuable dining space. Now for the food, my husband had the special which was a rib steak. It was very good and the presentation was nice. Mine however, I had the grouper special which was suppose to have Red chile corn sauce. The fish itself was good although not much flavor and the sauce had even less flavor.
