Lindsay Docherty Photography - Love at Eastern State Penitentiary? Why not.

Lindsay Docherty Photography

So I've been staring at this text box for a while, and I simply don't know how to begin. I mean,…read morehow do you describe the tiny bundle of energy and joy that is Lindsay? A dwarf star of excellence? A teacup elephant of professionalism? A SmartCar of happiness? Well, she is all those things and more. Lindsay was one of two photographers we hired to shoot our wedding. We had seen her work before, and were captivated by her detail work and wonderful compositions. Since we were doing a very small 'pop-up' style wedding, we knew we wanted someone who would not only be able to capture the short ceremony, but also the entire day surrounding it as we traveled from the hotel to meet our family, and all left together for the reception dinner. Her images could not have been any better. The sheer joy of the day, and our love for each other was perfectly translated from 3 to 2 dimensions. In fact, we loved her work so much that we approached her again a year later, as we prepared for the birth of our son. I'll let her images speak for themselves in this link to her blog post: http://lindsaydocherty.com/philadelphia-birth-and-newborn-photographer-lewis/ If that doesn't convince you - nothing will. So I guess I could have saved myself a lot of writing and you a lot of reading had I just filled the text box with these two words: She's amazing.

If you're thinking about booking Lindsay for your wedding, DO IT!! I will absolutely use Lindsay for all future events and recommend her to all family and friends!

The twins came early and stayed in the NICU for a bit. I was going through a lot of change and Rae remembered my request. She faithfully followed up with me to ask how the babies were doing until my last baby came home a month later; we quickly set up the session I had wanted before they were born. Rae came to our home and made the whole process so easy. She's great with babies and toddlers and took 500 + photos! I appreciate Rae's photographic skills and professionalism as a full service photographer. The turn around time to view our gallery was fast and she sifted through all those photos so I didn't have to! The images she chose to highlight were beautiful and we finalized our order in an hour; she helped make our decision making process smooth. Prior to Rae, I worked with a photographer who mailed a DVD of finished images that I would have to put together into an album or print to display on my walls. I thought it was a good idea at the time, but I never did it. Rae sees the value in creating tangible products for her clients to enjoy and seeing her projects through from start to finish. Rae's attentiveness and responsiveness made the shoot happen and I'm thankful to have these beautiful keepsakes. Our album, birth announcements, and 11x14 prints for the living room wall arrived on time and look amazing! I'm so glad Rae captured some precious moments that we'll cherish forever! I cannot recommend Rae highly enough; she enjoys what she does, is a joy to work with, and produces exquisite work! The whole process was seamless and she exceeded our expectations; you will not be disappointed!

We first booked her back in 2008, right after our engagement, based on the gorgeous photos we saw on her site & some correspondence via phone and email. I will say that I had never seen more beautiful wedding photography on a consistent basis. Hers is a truly beautiful art and I am so thankful we booked her to capture our engagement & wedding day in September of 2009. Post-wedding, the business side of Rae Barnes Photography was unsettling. I appreciate the busy holiday season and was prepared for that, but I ended up receiving an order with printing errors that was meant to be a Christmas present. She was very apologetic and sent several complimentary prints to make up for it, which was nice of her, but the present lost its wow factor on Christmas morning, for sure. When it came time to order the album, we thought we'd receive some guidance on how the whole process works. Nothing ever came. When I finally contacted her about it, she responded matter-of-factly, as if I should have know the whole process somehow already! Overall, I felt like I had to ask way too many questions about every little detail - when just a little bit of a heads up about the general workings of getting an album ordered would have been really nice. Once the album process did get underway, it took FOREVER to hear anything back. Come to find out, she had a total hard drive failure and lost a lot of work (luckily not our images), but never actually communicated that to us until we asked when we might see a draft. Apparently she had let blog readers and her twitter followers know - but didn't think to email her paying clients who were patiently waiting for a first look at their album. Pretty unprofessional and presumptuous to just think that I knew via one of those methods. Fast forward a couple MORE months and a few more "busy times" for her, we finally had our album. It was (and remains) very beautiful and we are thankful for it. I will say, however, it came in a box from some other photographer or studio with her logo taped over it. Really? After I get done paying $2k+ you can't brand your own album boxes? Finally, we ordered thank you cards through Rae (now, looking back, I wonder why we bothered) and received them only to find her GIANT logo across 25% of the back of the card. She's very gratuitous with pasting her logo on everything she possibly can, just be aware of that. We were almost embarrassed to send them around like that, especially for not really loving the whole experience with her services. Anyway, if you can put up with the only semi-professional business side, you will still likely be very happy with the images you get. Again, those are top notch. It's just too bad she couldn't manage her business in a better way.

What we envisioned and what we ended up with was literally a million-fold better - and that is not an exaggeration. Mike spoke with each of us separately prior to the shoot and then we set a time and date for the shoot. Mike suggested the Philadelphia Art Museum during the 'golden hour' at the end of the day. I cannot even begin to tell you what a fantastic time we had with Mike and the actual shoot was an amazing experience full of fun and laughter. The photos were taken all around the Art Museum and Schuylkill River area and while it was a busy crowded day; Mike managed to frame the shots so it looked as if we were the only one there. Many have asked if we cleared the area for our photoshoot because of Mike's skillful photography. The resulting images were also amazing and instead of one framed photo, we ended up with a beautiful 6 foot collage of photos printed on metal that is now a prominent art installation in our home. We also ended up choosing fifty (50) - yes, FIFTY - of the images Mike shot that day for our collection. Mike absolutely did a fantastic job and created amazing works of art out of two ordinary people who have been together for twenty years. Everyone who sees the photos and knows us always says that the photos are "absolutely you guys". I should mention that we are a gay male couple and Mike was very comfortable with us as we were with him; he is very easy to work with and truly one of the most laid back photographers I have known - and I have known many. I would wholeheartedly recommend Mike Allebach to any straight, gay, trans-gendered or any other flavor of person for any photos they may want from boudoir to personal to professional. He is truly an amazing and gifted artist/photographer.

I was definitely vibin' to my girl RiRi playing in the background while me and my man just kind of got into each other and Mike allowed (and helped guide) us to make some magic happen in front of the camera lens. If you're looking to do a boudoir shoot by yourself or with your guy, gal, or polynamorous mates... DO IT! I loved every second of the shoot and the final photo album. Def had me feelin' myself haha! Since this was all a surprise to me, it was my first time meeting her and it took just a few moments for us to build a connection. Not only did she capture the big moment, but she also spent about an hour taking photos of us in the city. Before she began the photo shoot, she asked us about what kind of photos we wanted. When we told her we like candid shots, she made sure to keep that in mind and most of our photos are candids. I appreciate her willingness to take direction so that we could get what we wanted. From our first meeting, Annie, I knew you were the one!!! Then, we met for our engagement photos! The way you got Mike comfortable in front of the camera so quickly confirmed everything for me. You helped us organize a smooth schedule and thought of absolutely every little detail. When we left our final meeting with you I couldn't believe how quickly 2 1/2 hours passed with you. You had us so comfortable in your adorable home, we felt like we were chatting with an old friend! The day of the wedding you helped keep us calm and together in a way I never thought I could be as a bride. We were so impressed at the lengths you went to in order to get a great "shot". You did this in a way though that we didn't even realize you were there. You were both professional, classy and fun...in short...you are both TOP NOTCH at what you do!!! We can't wait to see your blog "teaser"! Thank you to both of you for helping to create a PICTURE perfect day!!!
