I want to take time to write a review for Telfair Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I was very…read morepleased with their service. I've been to their office 6 or 7 times between August 2022 and July 2023. When you have to get an extraction and implant like I did, it requires several visits, plus a lot of time in between for the gums and bones to heal in between before they can proceed with the next phase. It all started when I accidentally cracked the bottom part of my tooth down to the root in 2022 when I bit into a piece of bone (warning to you spare ribs lovers out there) while I was on vacation. It was excruciating pain to say the least and I couldn't wait to get back to Houston to see my dentist. My dentist told me it appears that my tooth is cracked and referred me to a root canal specialist to see if performing a root canal can save my tooth. The root canal specialist took x-rays and 3D photos and said it wasn't salvageable and I had to get the tooth extracted. Strangely, the dental office that I used to go to, couldn't or didn't want to perform the extraction so they referred me to a couple of oral surgeons. I called their offices to schedule an appointment but one doctor was out of town and wouldn't be back for another couple months. I did not want to wait that long as I was still in pain. I called the other referral and nobody answered the phone. I decided to look for an oral surgeon myself and stumbled upon Telfair Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. They decided to see me even though I did not have a referral. Some places won't even see you if you do not have a referral. Dr. Kyoko Yamaji and her staff took care of me. Dr. Yamaji performed the extraction and bone graft. She gave me the option of staying awake for the surgery or be put to sleep. I chose to be awake. After local anesthesia, the procedure was painless and I experienced minimal discomfort after surgery when the anesthesia wore off. I was prescribed ibuprofen for the pain and an oral antibiotic. I went back to see Dr. Yamaji a couple more times for follow-up checkups to make sure everything is healing properly. In 2023 I went back to get the implant, which again I chose to stay awake for the procedure. The procedure was painless after local anesthesia and I was once again given ibuprofen and antibiotic for post surgery. After another 2 months I went back to see Dr. Yamaji one more time to follow up. She took an x-ray and examined the implant and gave me the thumbs up to proceed with getting a fitted crown over the implant from my dentist. Throughout this long process, the office staff members were professional and courteous. I'd like to give props to Christina who is always friendly and upbeat. I've never seen her without a smile on her face. If I have a medical clinic, I would hire someone like Christina because she makes the patients feel welcome and appreciated. Dr. Yamaji has been nothing short of professional and friendly as well. Honestly, this place far exceeded my expectation. If you're looking for an oral surgeon, you can trust Telfair Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. They accept most major insurance plans so make sure to ask first.

Stay away from this place, I don't recommend it! They don't care about the patients, they DO CARE…read moreabout the money they're making. They will take the money NO PROBLEM, but when something happens during a procedure they don't say anything, they don't listen to the patient telling them they feel the pain, they just tell them to stay still and keep going. Giving their patients a VERY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. It is not okay for them not to take better care of their patients. Look for another place and if you decide to go here, please make sure not to let your family members go in without supervision, that way you can be there for them and stop "this professionals" from hurting your loved ones.

So, I started to search from my insurance website. Everything checked out okay. There was a long wait to be seen for the first time. After my account is established, everything is fast. I can't say I enjoy my teeth getting pulled out. But it wasn't as painful as it sounded. Dr Yang took good care of me. The medical assistants were efficient and the front office was friendly. Whole process only took 15 minutes. Because I enjoyed being here, I started inquiring if the service extends to beyond tooth extraction. Ha! No. I have to go back to my regular dentist to get a bridge built. My decaying tooth started with dentist refused to give space to avoid food get stuck between teeth. That got me thinking if I should change dentist because of their alternative motives. Don't worry. I'll be back. He found a possible candidate that might need to be removed. P.S. Dr. Jordan does not rush the appointment time, is detailed in explanations, and asks if you have any questions. I haven't met very many physicians who are as personable as Dr. Jordan. He even personally calls to check on you. He cares, and it is evident. I had oral surgery under anesthesia this morning, and I'm writing this review eight hours later. Excellent surgeon. He came highly recommended by another physician for his technique, and his care has exceeded my expectations. I have zero pain since he sent me home with specific pain instructions, no swelling, and I did not expect to start recovering so quickly. I have to note I follow instructions to the last detail (eat what and when they told me, take my medicine, no using straws etc). Dr. Jordan was also very nice to my mother who drove me to the procedure. His office faces a hospital, his office staff are very friendly and keep contact with you about payment before the procedure so nothing is a surprise, and he has an anesthesiologist with him. If you're looking for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is safe, has welcoming and expert staff, and cares about your outcome then I highly recommend you consider Dr. Jordan. Mitzy K.

UPDATE: I went and sought out a 2nd opinion...since Fort bend Dental Aliana didn't want to help me…read morethe same day...This new dentist evaluated Dr. Barrata's work...it wasn't the adhesive that was the issue....Barrata didn't cut real tooth enough for crown to sit on with good grip...so crown has a wabble effect and caused the crown to fall off.....it wasn't the adhesive...it's that the tooth that the crown sits on wasn't cut small enough for the. -- Initially I thought it was a good place, I only got tooth cleaning done. So, I provided a good review. It takes time to get to know how this organization operates. I had to go back in for a tooth issue where I needed a crown. This is when I started realizing they are not doing something correct. Vinny Barrata is assigned to me as my dentist, he seemed like he knows what he is doing. Anyways, he worked on a tooth of mine..he shaved off the cracks and sized it to set a crown on. Initially had a temporary crown for a couple of weeks while I waited to get my new crown. The problems began after getting my new crown. Note: I have experience with 4 other crowns now been set in my mouth for over 5 years. But the crown that Dr. Barrata did, first try the crown that Barrata set, it popped out in two weeks. I had to go back. Second time, Barratta put a new crown in popped out in 11 months, so I went back recently, Barrata again worked on it...I told him I thought it was the adhesive. But he chose to go the route of using a backup crown that he ordered, and put it on...he still chose to use old adhesive and new crown.. Personally, i told him if he's using the same adhesive, I don't think it will fix it...later the same day in the evening I was having dinner, just eating rice and it popped out again...that's 3 times a crown popped out worked on my tooth by Dr. Barrata. I called the Aliana dental folks asking for help today and they rejected to help me stating Barratta is at another office and the dentist Lana on site cannot assist...so basically saying to me that you need to wait for Dr. Barrata...while I suffer with a jagged tooth. This company operates like a ma and pop shop. The help who was assigned to my case, I found that Dr. Barratta was letting her shave the new crown. I asked the help are you dentist...cuz I was like why is she shaving my tooth...shouldn't a licensed professional be shaving my tooth....she was not a licensed profession...she was Barrata's help basically...when I accused her of not being a dentist...that's immediatly when Barrata stepped it. What I discovered is these dentists that work here 100% empower help/unlicesend folks to pick up some of the work dentists should ideally be doing. Immidiatly Barrata started working on my tooth after I accused the non licensed person of not being a dentist and why she was working on my crown saving and shaping....so messed up. Anyways, same day after Barrata put in a new crow FOR THE 2nd time, he cannot get it right the first time apparantly...same evening a 3rd time my crown fell out while eating rice. I called next morning to get appointment...they were forcing me to wait another day to work with Dr. Barrata...and they kept saying they want to use the same adhesive...but here I am struggling with the back of my toungue cutting up against a shaved tooth since there is no crown....they make me suffer until Barrata gets back to the Richmond location from the Rosenburg location...they asked me to go to the Rosenberg location...but the office manager asked me...I said I cannot, I work from home and they seem to not understand that I have work...going back for fallen crown repeatedly is unaccepted...3 times worked on my by Barrata..I had to go back...they do care I'm sufferring..would not let me see the other dentist on site named Lana. Anyways, I am never going back to this location.....they are kind of getto...and will be advising folks to stay clear of this dental organization going forth. Barrata doesn't know how to keep a crown glued on past 11 months in my experience. Buyer be aware is all.

We're only starting and my particular issue may require many visits. Things of note, the place is clean and in this covid era, fairly strict about Covid procedures. It makes sense, cause you're gonna have to be unmasked in order to have your teeth worked on. They do seem to have state of the art technology compared to my last dentist at Lovett. (I didn't have anything against Lovett Dental, just my employer changed all my insurance and the old dentist wasn't on their dental plan.) It does have a lux feel, which is kinda ridiculous, but would be soothing to those who fear dentists. The first time I watched Netflix in between a bunch of X-Rays during an emergency visit. The next time I just had music on the background. Like again, you don't really need it, it's over the top, but I can see how it would help people. In this one X-Ray chair they had a large plastic tooth and inside lots of toys for kids. So, they would seem to know how to deal with kids. I liked my particular dentist, though I forgot his name. Argh! He was funny, and blunt, which is what I appreciated. He told me only an orthodontist should attempt to remove a certain wisdom tooth I have and no responsible one would. That type of real, did jive well with me. I'm hoping my partiuclar issues will be addressed, as it's only the beginning stages, but so far so good.

Went to my general dentist on Tuesday (11/28/23 at 12pm) who confirmed everything I thought and they referred me to this office (per my dentist I needed a emergent tooth extraction done). I called this office same day around 2:30pm or so, and long story short I was booked for a emergent tooth extraction 2 days later on Thursday. Pre-oral surgery: Now I am hella nervous (I'm typically with doctor's appointments but dentist's appointments I'm freaking out. Something about any type of metal tool item in my mouth that does it for me). Anywho, I was instructions of what to do via text message (I.e no eating/drinking 8 hours before the timeframe and to bring along another driver over the age of 18) and all instructions followed to a "T". During: On, Thursday 11/30/23; I arrived for my appointment at 10:30am for 11:00am appointment to be on the safe side. Insurance was verified and paperwork signed. Dr. Michael went over everything in about 10 minutes, and the doctor explained it would be localized rather than general anesthesia. I said okay, and I was in the surgery room for like 30 minutes; localized anesthesia given, expected cracking of the tooth occurred, doctored irrigated the area to cleansed the wound of infection, viola the area was sutured and I was done (all under an 1 hour. Honestly fastest and pain free appointment ever. I was shocked). After: the pain is minimal and just taking the doctor's orders if alternating between Tynelol and Ibuprofen. P.S. the customer service was awesome. I can really tell the staff and the doctor cares. Doctor actually checked up on me, the day after and I was like so surprised (what doctor does that, besides a PCP perhaps??? This doctor has very good bedside manner). They gained a client like forever, but I did tell them that hopefully I won't need their tooth extracting services anytime soon cause I like my natural teeth. I will however be back for a dental implant. Verdict: 5/5 stars. I honestly have no complaints. Coke here, if you need a very good oral surgeon.
