New camper who won a gift card from a scout's bear den meeting when we proposed our canoeing trip back in March. (Really recommend the bears den for Scout groups who want to go on big trips but don't have the funds) Finally found the time to spend it and really needed a pocket knife. A nice lady helped me pick out a pocket knife that fit what I do on Scouting trips that was also in the gift card's budget. Got the Tinkers knife for around $43.00 without tax. They also put a lifetime warranty on the pocket knife. So all in all, good gear, good staff from what I saw, and a good selection of camping stuff read more

5 years ago I could walk into Campers Village and get help, they would spend the time with me to make sure i got the gear i wanted. now with breathe outdoors, i go inside and the sales staff care more about getting product out on the shelves, when you finally get one to help you its more about selling the most expensive stuff then the right item. it almost feels like with the rebranding they keep pushing on social media that they also have quota's the staff have to hit. I do not plan to come back if they keep this up. read more

Exceptional staff that are knowledgeable about their products, fair prices and an amazing "friends and family" sales event twice a year where almost everything is included in the sale versus their competitors where almost everything you'd want is excluded. While tent hunting with my honey, we headed to Campers Village on MacLeod Trail. We were really impressed with the store and their wares. Firstly, all the tents they offered were already set up, so you could see what they were actually like, rather than relying solely on the picture on the box. Very useful. Second, they carry just about any item you can imagine to upgrade your rugged outdoor experience into a cushy affair. The inside of the store has a nice rustic feel to it. I'm particularly fond of the suspension bridge that makes up part of the upper mezzanine. Usually when the ground is shaking beneath my feet it's not a good thing, but this was alright. For whatever reason, I just think the name 'Campers Village' sounds funny. I always picture these woodsmen covered in leaves and camouflage trudging in needing replacement boots. I like this image, but it's not correct. In fact, I even made good use out of the store on a couple of occasions. I wouldn't say I'm a camping fanatic, but I do enjoy a good weekend out in Kananaskis, and Campers Village helps to make the experiences a little more enjoyable. I was able to purchase a comfy two-person tent for a very reasonable price! Chad W. is right when he says that they offer great prices to their patrons. Even for the large, seemingly expensive things, you can get a great deal. Yes, the do sell replacement boots for the actual woodsmen, but they also sell backpacks, gear, rainproofing products, and they even offer repairs to your old worn stuff. It's a good establishment for people who enjoy their time spent outside, and you'll certainly find something useful to make your time more enjoyable or even easier. read more

I will be totally honest the only reason for reviewing Campers Village is that it is the only outdoor store in Calgary that stocks Ice Breaker clothes, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm only aware of one other store in Banff that stocks their clothing? I can't recommend Ice Breaker enough as it is really good quality clothing (at a price) for anything outdoors, made from New Zealand Merino Wool it is not itchy like most wools and wicks moisture away like nothing else I've used and the biggest bonus is it doesn't smell afterwards! Lots of people to help everywhere.. Kind of awkward but I only went in for a Shewee so I can pee in the woods. Pretty sure this is the only place in Calgary to get it! I'm always satisfied with the selection when I go here. The service is hit and miss, depending on who is helping you. Sometimes they ask you if you need help and sometimes they just let you wander even if you are trying to get someone's attention. I find their prices to be fair on some thing but others can be a bit on the pricey side. They have good prices on tents and sleeping bags. Glad to have this store in the city. While it does not appear to have as much stuff as its main competitor (Campers Village is not nearly as big), it does have a great selection (not mostly house brand like the other store). I have been happy with my purchases here. The staff have always been very helpful and knowledgeable. On occasion, I have had some exceptional service from the staff here. Especially one time when a young guy (young to me) took so much care in helping us pick out backpacks...they have worked out great. While I used to find this store very hit and miss, I recently upgraded by rating and review, because I have been finding an increasingly bigger selection of brands and sizes. It is also a huge plus that they have parking THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR (competitor downtown!) and they are easy to get to. A couple of areas where it could still improve: It is layed out in a very confusing way...I get dizzy walking around and around, and if I have to go back looking for something I can never find it in a timely manner a second time. That said, I have a bad sense of directgion. Also, check out can be painfully slow - even when the store is not busy. I would pick this store as my first stop over others in town for my outdoor gear. read more

After a two week fiasco combing many Calgary competitors, I could not find hiking boots Mostly because I am uneducated around how to buy a hiking boot. I have had hiking shoes for a number of years, however, boots have been a more challenging pursuit for me, simply because many of the hiking boots feel similar to ski boots to me (little bending), so I really didn't know how to pick them out. The Calgary competitors doled out useless advice (I actually had one sales person in a competor tell me to bend the boot iwth my hands, and decide how long I thought it would last. Seriously, I can't even make that up. I even have a witness -- my friend Karri was with me and both of us were blown away by the response of this sales person who knew nothing about hiking. Then.... Campers Village was recommended to me, and man.... were they helpful! A young hiking dude assisted me with curly hair in a pony tail, and asked me a tonne of questions about what I planned to do (i.e., day trips versus multi-day trips, etc), and then narrowed my selection down to 6 boots. All of them equally as ugly (sorry -- these now won the title of the uglies boots I own). He explained how they should feel on the heel and the toe, and pointed me towards a ramp to walk up and down, and explained how they should feel in each direction. Wow!!! THIS is the kind of help I needed. I would have been pretty frustrated if I spent $200-$300 on a boot, not knowing what I was doing. As I was poking a little fun at the fashion crisis I had going on (black skirt, black tank, a pair of men's sock with the ankle bulging out the top of the back of the boot), he assured me that I needed to let my feet decide which pair I was taking home -- not my eyeballs. He was right -- out of six pairs of boots, only one pair cut the mustard on all of criteria he laid out when I was walking on that little ramp to feel how they felt on the toe and heel as I walked up and down. He asked if I wanted to purchase the socks that were on my feet in my own size. He was so bloody helpful, I took the upsell and walked out with some Merino Wool hiking socks. Well done, dude. I am sure you can buy similar products at any outdoor store, but Campers Village gets a huge thumbs up from me for service. This guy that helped me knew his stuff and helped me narrow down a lot of ugly choices to the most functional one. I have every confidence that the boots will do everything that I need them to do in the rockies this summer. read more

I'm writing this review to recognize Ken. I came here to try on a backpack I was considering purchasing. Ken confronted me and helped me with all my questions. He gave me advice in what to look for in a backpack, added weights to help show me what it would feel like, then showed me other purchases I should get for my backpacking trip. Being a first time backpacker, I was extremely appreciative. The reason I am giving this store 4 stars is because it is way too overpriced!!! I will be purchasing all my stuff online, but I appreciated the customer service I got from Ken. I feel bad because I am assuming he is on commission, I just could not justify paying an extra $100 for a backpack. Therefore, I thought to give Ken the recognition he deserved. I agree with the comments on pricing. I bought a pair of PhD Elite running socks for my husband. I see that online, they are $18.95 and the in-store p$22.98. I definitely said I wanted hiking socks with no seams, and the young man who helped me said the ones I bought would be perfect. I did not open them to check because I believed he would have paid attention to the no seams part. I live outside the country and when I gave the to my husband, he tried them on, took them off and found very significant seams around the toe area and commented, "This was exactly what I do NOT want to see in a sock for my 220 km hiking trip...!" And now at a distance, I am unable to return them. Wont be going back to this store. read more

Went here in search of a new tent and sleeping bag. Found both and also ended up also picking up a great day pack. The salesperson who helped us (didn't catch his name) was great - very knowledgeable and informative, but not at all pushy. Though I'm no major outdoors-person, from what I can tell they have a nice selection of camping and outdoors gear/apparel, as well as some more urban-style clothing and footwear. I was impressed with the selection and service provided at Campers Village, and would certainly return if I found myself looking for other outdoors gear while in Calgary. read more

I went to Campers Village for the first time today, and my experience made me join Yelp so I could review them. They were fantastic. I came with my active 2 year old, and they had a little play area for him. The salesperson who helped was awesome. I needed gloves for my son, and when he found out that I wanted a pair with a side- zipper enclosure (which have been impossible to find), he went and found me this type of gloves! And even though many competitors I've been to have a very poor selection this time of year, Campers Village had a huge selection, lots of sizes and colours, different types of gloves, and even some on sale. I will definitely be back to buy snow pants for myself, and for all my future outdoor equipment needs. read more
