Los Angeles, CA I've been wanting to visit this bakery for years. After trying their Whole Wheat Sourdough years ago at Uno Tre Otto, Claremont, CA (they now serve a different locally made bread) and also purchased their half loaf of sliced bread and pastries at Lavender and Honey, Pasadena, CA, a visit to this bakery has been on my to do list for years. Several weeks ago, I finally made the trek out to Bread Lounge to pick up a loaf of bread. They sell out of varieties throughout the day so I called ahead and placed a Whole Wheat Walnut on hold, the same variety with dried fig was already sold out. The gal placed a loaf on hold and offered to slice it for me. I visited at the end of the day, so most of the pastries were already sold out. The smell of a great pizza oven wafted through the air as I entered. My loaf of bread was sitting on the shelf all by itself wrapped and ready to go, they had sold out of most freshly baked items by the time I arrived. The loaves of bread are $5 with tax but are rather small, ours was gone in about 2 days, I really wished I had placed another on hold. As far as bread goes, this is about the best it gets in Southern California. The moisture, texture, density and flavor is just unbeatable. I have not found a better or comparable tasting bread. Pro tip: As soon as you turn from 7th to Santa Fe there is an almost hidden alley just before the bakery which leads to a back entrance and parking lot, the nice girl working behind the counter actually stood outside and waved me in that direction since I missed it on the first pass, so nice of her to do that! read more

I stumbled upon this bakery/cafe and I'm so glad I did this week. This bakery was started by an Israeli baker. His products are light, not overly dense nor sugary, sugary and just 'perfect', if I had to chose one word. The prices, especially for DTLA, we're also good. It was a quiet, inviting space and delicious experience. I tried and rate: Sesame bagel: 5/5 Jerusalem bagel: 5/5 Sesame peanut butter bites: 4.5 I cannot wait to go back for brunch and try a sandwich and dine in. First, every time I asked him a question he would turn his back, I'm talking to him not his ass. Second, when he would pay attention, he looked bother at the fact that I didn't know which bread was which. Well hellooooo, I am a new customer, of course I want to know what the round fluffy one has inside, duh. Did it ever occur to his idiot that perhaps I am buying bread for some who might have some sort of allergies to certain ingredients?! You'll need to get this bread first cause you're going to spend some dough at this bakery. 3.5 stars would be more accurate for my experience here but I got a bagel and not their other baked goods which looked great. My friend and I stopped by on a Friday morning around 10am and it soon became packed after we ordered so not sure if that's the usual or the holiday rush! I overheard a staff state that they already sold out of their hot chocolate when they open at 7am. It is a pretty big space with a counter where you order from and see their display of baked goods. There is a separate service station where you can pick up your orders. Various breads, pastries, and jams are available for purchase that would make a good housewarming gift. There is restrooms and a seating area for you to enjoy your newly purchased goods as well as get a sneak peek into the baking process. The water station is by the entrance if you need some H2O. Parking is available in their back lot. I ordered "Against the Stream" on their bagel with mixed seeds toasted which came with a side salad and pickles which was a little under $18 after tax and tip. I was craving bagels after NY but haven't gotten bagels in CA. This isn't your typical bagel since it is lighter and not as dense which actually suited my taste today since I didn't want to be weighed down. The ingredients were fresh and light although I wish it had more lox and cream cheese for a better bite. I'm not a fan of pickles but I quite enjoyed the pickles here. The salad it came with tasted on the bitter side and didn't have enough dressing. Yet I appreciate their sustainable tableware. My friend ordered a pastry, mint lemonade, and ham and cheese on an onion bagel which he stated he enjoyed so take what you will! If you stop by, I would not necessarily recommend their bagels since it is not a traditional bagel which may be what you're looking for. But if you're looking for a lighter bagel or other baked goods, this is the place for you! read more

Loved our sandwiches here recently after we checked iut the Luna Luna exhibit in the art district. We sampled both types of tuna, melted and cold on olive ciabatta. Also had the ham and cheese on a baguette and a veggie on sourdough. All were hits. The basil lemonade was so good friends went back for seconds. Their pastry* looked excellent and while tempted, the sandwiches were definitely filling. The staff are flexible and kind and the vibe was relaxed, the space clean, and the parking surprisingly easy. Recommend! The cutest bakery in Arts District ~ the pastries all looked so delicious, it was hard to pick just one! The Pan Au Raisin was freshly baked and so satisfying. The beet salad is AMAZING here, with beets, pistachios, chicken, kale, and feta cheese! They also give a side of bread the ciabatta was perfect. Will definitely be back to buy a loaf of bread. Stopped by Bread Lounge in the early morning and the line was full of locals and daily coffee hipsters. Got the Going Dutch Sandwich and Chocolate Croissant, both to die for! The Going Dutch is perfectly toasted and the Gouda tastes expensive and fresh. The tomato is flavorful and adds a unique taste to the overall sandwich and surprisingly does not dampen the sandwich at all. Genuinely think this is my favorite sandwich spot in LA forsure. I'm going to not return based on the bad reviews, and because in the 5 minutes I was there two separate parties came in for prepaid orders and one employee said sorry it's not ready and he acted like he didn't know about it and the other one also seemed not to know about a pick up order. The food is ok yet overpriced. Some shelf items are not priced. The to go items are over wrapped, three paper wraps for one bagel. There's no sign at the parking lot in back directing you to the door, which is around a corner hidden. The front door facing the main street opens out but you can't enter from outside. Ran over here to grab brioche loaves for stuffing. It was so good I selfishly kept a loaf for myself and mixed in other bread for the stuffing to make up for the missing loaf! I've been to Bread Lounge about 3-4 times. My first visit I got the ham and cheese and it was AMAZING: it was so warm and the cheese was practically melting and the croissant super soft and buttery. I thought it was the best croissant in LA. The second time I got the ham and cheese, I had a different experience. It wasn't warmed up enough, and so the cheese was kind of hard, the croissant too flaky, and it was just not very tasty. The key is to get the ham and cheese REALLY warmed up. I was very sad by the cold ham and cheese croissant :'( As for their other items: I really liked their Jerusalem bagel with their yogurt spread. The olives that came with it were a little too salty. I ended up taking the yogurt spread home to use for the rest of the week for veggies and other bread. Their bread quality overall is quite chewy and good. I've gotten their chocolate rugelach, their kouign amann (which is more like a giant croissant with kouign amann flavor; not your typical one), and matcha scone (quite dense, mostly tastes of the matcha frosting). I've been patronizing this establishment for the last 3-4 years due to its proximity to my apartment. And, they have good food. However, after the awful treatment I received this weekend, I will no longer be wasting my money here. TLDR, go to Hi Bakery down the street instead. Now, if you want the tea, while the food here is amazing, customer service is absolute sh*t! Every single employee here looks miserable working here and have the worst attitudes ever! This was the greatest random find in LA! I was driving towards the LA flower market and was attracted to Bread Lounge's symbol. I then read that this is "Bread Lounge, Cafe & Boulangerie." Boulangerie is a French word, stands for bakery. Ever since I came back from my French trip, I had been dying for some baked goods that measure up to what I had in France. I decided to take my chances here. Their parking lot is in the back, and there are some street parking as well if you are lucky or willing to walk. The small parking lot has a small patio area next to it as well, good for people who wanted some outside air for their bakery. As soon as you walk in to the bakery shop, a strong waft of butter and bakery goods hit you right in the face and wakes you up. The inviting smells lures you in, to their shelf of baked goods. They have many options, baked bread along the back wall, pastries in the front, along with some quiche, muffin, scone, cookies; you name it, they have it all! It was honestly so hard to pick what I wanted the most, but I ended up choosing to eat the croissant, and taking a scone, a timbale, and a blueberry (muffin?) to go. I had them warm up the croissant for me, and took it on my way. The croissant was so flaky, so buttery, airy, and just honestly so delicious!! I almost wanted to pick up all the flaky crusts up from the table and eat them! It definitely compared up to what I had in the countryside back in France. Although they have plenty options, from baked goods and pastries to sandwiches, salads, dessert, jam, and beverages, I wish they were a little less pricey. I picked up 4 different things and ended up paying closer to $12 for all of them. It's not bad LA price, but definitely was a splurge for me. We went about 8:00 am on a Friday. Parking was tough but after about 5 minutes a spot opened up. The gentlemen behind the counter were not welcoming, helpful or friendly. They had a pissy and irritated look on their face. I managed to overlook the employees and gave this review on the baked goods. I got three croissants, they were all fresh and very tasty, my favorite was the Kouign Aman croissant. I could have tolerated the inconvenience of the parking and stepping over the transients to get into the bakery, but add on the bitter employees and it's not worth the trek or my safety for a return trip for the tasty croissants. read more
