Today my friend and I stopped into Bread Head on Montana Avenue for a sandwich. First off, I have to mention that the staff is so friendly and nice. The sandwich choice is great and the sandwiches are served on the most delicious bread. I do wish that they could make an open-faced melted cheese sandwich on this bread because it would be amazing! The homemade bread, a custom focaccia is baked in special pans every few hours with a light glaze on top. OMG, I wish I could buy it because I'd eat this bread every day! We had the Chicken Salad Sandwich-house made roasted chicken salad with shaved green apple and apple butter. This was a really great sandwich and I'd definitely order it again. Their isn't much ambience in here but the sandwiches more than make up for that (and the bathroom is very cool and clean!) Next time we are going to also try the Ham and Butter Sandwich because I love the Benton's Tennessee Country Ham! We are also coming back for the BLT! This sandwich isn't a big deal. And considering how many people rave about the bread - have you people never had a good focaccia? Focaccia comes in different varieties but this one just isn't it. I ordered the whole Muffuletta for $25. It's filled with Fra'mani Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Pit Smoked Ham, Provolone, Swiss, Castlevetrano Olive Salad, Garlic Mayo Overall, it's not too bad of a price but still pricey. You get a good amount of meat, cheese, and for this sandwich, olive salad. The olive salad and garlic mayo are the highlights. But there's nothing really special about the meats and cheeses because they're served so cold that you feel like you just bite into a block of playdoh. The bread is almost stale, it's dry and just isn't very appealing to the textural components that focaccia is known for. read more

I'm so happy I found this sandwich shop! The bread here is amazing. Crunchy and light with so much flavor. I got the combo grinder and the sandwich was huge. I couldn't finish it but they were not stingy with the meat. The ingredients used were super fresh and they use dukes mayo they use is so so good. The workers are really nice and upkeep the tables frequently. I loved sitting outside since many customers bring their dogs so it was so cute seeing all the dogs walk by. The only downside is parking but there are nearby lots available. read more

If you don't want to wait, you can order online and pickup. For 2 of us going to the beach, I ordered 4 "half" sandwiches. When I opened them up, I realized that a half is really more like a whole to me so we had way more than we needed. But fun to try anyway. calabrian turkey - good, fresh ingredients but not a wow; would pass on this one next time combo grinder - YUM, lots of delicious italian meats and cheese with generous portion of roasted pepper; probably the FAVE muffuletta - a little similar to the combo with italian meats and cheeses; olive spread mozzarella - with avocado and sprouts; so much better than it sounds and one of our faves The bread was thin focaccia style and was crispy in parts. Bread Head has quickly climbed the ranks to become one of our absolute favorite sandwich spots in town. The star of the show is, without a doubt, the bread- as it should be with the name. It's perfectly baked with a golden, crunchy crust on the outside and a pillowy soft interior that holds up beautifully to the generous fillings without ever feeling heavy. Portions here are massive. A half sandwich is easily the size of a regular whole sandwich anywhere else, and a full sandwich comes as four hearty slices -- perfect for sharing. We've been several times and worked our way through a good portion of the menu, but our personal standouts are the Calabrian Turkey, Roast Beef, and Turkey Pesto. Each one is fresh, flavorful, and layered with just the right balance of ingredients so that nothing overpowers the bread. The only downside is the weekend crowd. This place draws serious sandwich lovers, and seating is extremely limited. You'll often find yourself eating with a line of people hovering nearby, waiting for their turn. The good news? They're currently building a patio, which should make the experience much more comfortable. While it's not the cheapest sandwich shop around, the quality and size of the portions more than justify the price. Bread Head!! I've been meaning to try you and it was quite delicious. I got the 1/2 turkey pesto and my dad got the 1/2 Calabrian turkey. The "1/2" sandwich is a FULL sandwich so don't be fooled! We very much enjoyed both sandwiches - the bread is crispy, ingredients are fresh and definitely have some unique sandwiches with different flavor profiles. I kind of wish they had a few more options like just a prosciutto or salami sandwich but still thought it was an overall great experience. The price is definitely on the higher scale and think it should be no more than $13 since they are many of great gourmet sandwiches in the area that range less than that. Bruh, the whole is two sandwiches. The whole order *FEELS* pricey but it's actually an insane deal because you get two sandwiches. It's insane. Loved the ciabatta bread and the ingredients were extremely fresh. They also have daily in house brewed unsweetened ice tea that my mom thought was decent. After reading the rave review in the NYT 's recently about this establishment, I had to visit coming in to LA For Christmas from Brooklyn NY. It's a small place with not much seating so be prepared to hover and grab a stool or table if you can. The line was somewhat long but moved fast. I ordered the Turkey Pesto 1/2 Sandwich and a large lemonade. The 1/2 sandwich is plenty of food and cost me $18 - lemonade was $5 and very good. Unfortunately the focaccia was somewhat stale and hard to bite in to and the turkey was good but dry. I love avocado but it was over powering and just got too messy. I do love the side of zapa hot sauce that was different. Next time I'll get the Chicken salad or roast beef and probably go during a quiet weekday to see if the bread is fresher and out of oven baked well! Until next time ( or not ) read more

I think it's more of a schiaciatta than a focaccia as the latter is usually thicker which I do not like for a sandwich so this bread is perf. Just has a few simple ingredients but you can taste the quality. What kind of Turkey do they use because it was so flavorful!! This has become one of my all time fave sandwiches!! The Italian sandwich was not my favorite because I didn't like one of the meats used but that's not their fault it's just my personal preference. There was some sort of sweet fennel seed like taste that I am not a fan of. So maybe look at all the ingredients if you're picky like me haha. Super hyped spot on Montana, which should be a great addition to that wonderful block and community! A few things: We went on a Sunday around 1:30 and it seemed crowded but the line actually moved really quickly! Total plus. Total minus it was actually 85 degrees in there and it's really small and no air flow. Another plus was beer! We got beers while we waited. Our wait wasn't long but there wasn't anywhere to sit. Not a big deal we managed to grab a corner of one of the bar top areas. Sandwiches..... A half sandwich is actually reasonably priced considering it's really a full sandwich. We got a muffuletta and a roast beef. Muffuletta was SO salty and hardly edible. It also came with 1 slice of mortadella and a few shavings of ham. Really thin. Also got a half roast beef which was decidedly better, but still only about 2-3 slices of meat. The bread is thin and looks amazing but it was STALE and tough to eat. Did not taste like it was freshly baked that morning. Judging by the heat in there they were already making tomorrow's batch of bread. The bread is stiff and has no give or flavor. I saw a lot of people getting the turkey pesto which felt like it was more of a bang for your buck Sando at $18 bc of the Avocado. Probably wouldn't got back but maybe it was an off day. My cousin recommended this sandwich place to us in Santa Monica and it was amazing. I loved the bread soo much. It had the perfect crunch. I've been here a couple times now and while it's good, I would say it's a little overrated. The bread itself is amazing, but I've found most of the sandwiches to be kind of whatever. I've now tried the Calabrian Turkey, Muffaletta, Chicken Salad, Turkey Pesto, and the Mozzarella, with the Mozzarella being my favorite by far. I do appreciate that they have voodoo chips and the Arnold Palmer they have is quite tasty, so those are some major pros. For the crowds this place draws, it's a little on the smaller side and seating can get tight, but the dining area is clean and well serviced. The staff here at Bread Head are truly exceptional. They have always been extremely kind and as quick as they possibly can be. After seeing Bread Head pop up on my Instagram for a couple months, I finally drove out to the cute Montana area to pick up lunch for my boyfriend and I. Parking can be hit or miss, I parked down the street to avoid paying the meter. When I arrived around 12:30pm on a Thursday, it was totally packed with a decent line, but they moved through it at a great rate. Man taking my order was patient and helpful in answering my questions. The food came out at a reasonable time to where I knew it was made-to-order, but didn't have me waiting too long despite the lunch rush. Now onto the food.. I ordered the half size of both sandwich, and my photos show HALF of the half size. A half-size order is plenty big for one person! Order a full size if you plan to share 1 sandwich with another person. I added extra Lemon Pine Nut Spread to the Combo Grinder and it made it our favorite sandwich of the day, however the Muffaletta was equally as delicious and flavorful! The most pleasant surprise of the day was the Parmesan peach salad, which comes premade in little containers by the counter. This was SOOO delicious and unique tasting, it is now a must-order if I go! The parmesan tastes ridiculously high-quality, the peaches were perfectly ripe and sweet, and there is a garlic oily sauce, which makes this the most insanely delicious flavor explosion I've had in a while. Stopped in randomly today at 5pm before a dinner date at forma down the street. Didn't know any of the back story behind the place being insta famous however stopped in as I'm a deli/sandwich aficionado on both the west coast (California) and Northeast (Boston). It was quiet I was the only customer in at 5pm. Friendly service everyone working said hi. I ordered the Calabrian Turkey as if you can't get a turkey sandwich right I'm not sure you should be selling sandwiches. Anyways my sandwich was ready in like 5 minutes. I eat it on the sidewalk on a bench. First let's talk about portions. I got the half sandwich and I'm a large guy (200lb) and if the half sandwich is what I had then I'm not sure who or what could eat a full size but it's definitely not a single 200lb man. I was most looking forward to the bread as it's in their name unfortunately it was hard and a bit stale. It was like pizza crust which is ok but gets chewy after a while. The turkey was solid and seemed to be nicely sliced fresh turkey meat. The dressing seemed like a simple thousand island dressing. The sandwiches had triple amount of lettuce compared to anything else on it which drowned the other flavors a bit Finally the cheddar cheese was ok but I could have used more as the lettuce drowned it out. Otherwise the sandwich was maybe a 3/5. Nothing amazing, it was ok. Did it make me want to go back? No. Anyways I appreciate another sandwich shop being open and admit maybe the bread was stale because i came at 5pm though if you're open till 7p I expect the bread to be made every 2 hours or so. Bread Head's food is solid, but the service and organization were extremely disappointing. We ordered in person and waited over an hour for sandwiches, only to see a steady stream of online orders being completed ahead of ours -- even some that appeared to be placed after we ordered. There didn't seem to be any system for managing in-store guests versus online tickets, and no one communicated about delays. A better approach would be allocating staff specifically to walk-in customers so they aren't left watching online orders jump the line. Good sandwiches can't make up for poor service and inefficient operations. At this price point, the experience should match the quality of the food -- and it simply didn't. read more

It's located in Santa Monica, cute little small sandwich shop but very crowded! It's open seating but limited, so grab a seat as soon as you see one available! Parking is terrible (street/meter). I got the mozzarella sandwich (half size) which was $14 I believe. I thought it was good, nice spread and the mozzarella was good, but I think it was a bit pricey especially for a sandwich without meat.
