I was in Uithoorn for work, and as a vegetarian never really know what to expect in small towns I…read morevisit for the first time. We went to Sjiek for a drink after the meeting, and I checked out their menu to see if I should come back afterwards for dinner. They had a few vegetarian options on the menu that really appealed to me, a lot more than the hotel I was staying at, so I came back.
First - the view: you're 50m from the Amstel, and the terrasse of the Sijek is really nice. Really worth coming for a drink, the sun setting on this side. Inside, the place is really nice and cosy, and probably has been refurbished quite recently. It felt like an American cafe/restaurant for some reason, in a positive way :)
Service was good. I'm amazed at the level of English of the Dutch really! The drinks and food came in quite quickly, and the waiters were nice.
Finally, the food! I decided to try the vegeratian chili (look at the pic and you'll see why it caught my eye!), and was sooo happy that I did: it was simply delicious, with tortillas, guacamole, and sour cream.
I don't remember how much I paid but it was really reasonnable. I highly recommend this place if you're in Uithoorn and don't know where to go!
