Everything from service to the food to the atmosphere was top notch, and it was at a brasserie that is almost 400 years old. We all took advantage of the prix fixe menu, that had a number of options for an appetizer, main, and dessert. I opted for a toasted brioche that was covered in sautéed mushrooms with a porcini sauce. My main was a filet of skate with prawns and a lobster sauce. For dessert I had the Chocolate Paardenburg, which was a chocolate cake with mousse atop all contained in a ganache shell, served with vanilla ice cream. It was all an amazing dining experience, the best one during this trip, and frankly, one of my top ever. We liked it so much we went for lunch out last full day in country. Raw oysters taste better over there.

The coffee was decent, but I prefer BLCK that is across the street. The ambiance here can't be beat though! Come sit, relax, and enjoy this wonderful cafe we found!!!

We went to Sjiek for a drink after the meeting, and I checked out their menu to see if I should come back afterwards for dinner. They had a few vegetarian options on the menu that really appealed to me, a lot more than the hotel I was staying at, so I came back. First - the view: you're 50m from the Amstel, and the terrasse of the Sijek is really nice. Really worth coming for a drink, the sun setting on this side. Inside, the place is really nice and cosy, and probably has been refurbished quite recently. It felt like an American cafe/restaurant for some reason, in a positive way :) Service was good. I'm amazed at the level of English of the Dutch really! The drinks and food came in quite quickly, and the waiters were nice. Finally, the food! I decided to try the vegeratian chili (look at the pic and you'll see why it caught my eye!), and was sooo happy that I did: it was simply delicious, with tortillas, guacamole, and sour cream. I don't remember how much I paid but it was really reasonnable. I highly recommend this place if you're in Uithoorn and don't know where to go!
