Where do I start? I have been an attendee of this coffee shop/restaurant weekly for at least 2 years now. It's perfect. The new addition of space inside really helped disperse the crowd around so that people now don't have to sit on one another. The fact that both patios aren't smoker-friendly makes me bummed especially since my favorite patio is the one that faces Westheimer. The waiters/waitresses are always neutral toward you so you get your food quickly and efficiently. They have to best iced chai latte in Houston I do believe! It's perfect and not too spicy. Pizzapizzapizza!! Their 8 inch pizzas are perfect. They are soft, doughy,and made with EVOO. The options for toppings are delightfully healthy! I love the spinach and feta, four cheese, prosciutto and cheese. Their sammiches are also great! They are served with fries or chips. My favorite is the mozzarella and pesto. One staple from their menu that I miss is the fried calamari salad. It was delicious! They got rid of it...Boo. Brasil movie nights also make Houston worth it. Domy/Brasil show independent and foreign films for free every Thursday and Monday night. Live jazz and live local music is also a staple in this cozy, trendy cafe. Open til 2AM! read more

My first visit here was on a date in 1996. They've changed a lot over the past years and unfortunately they keep subtracting my favorite things. They used to have chimay white on tap. Why oh why they did away with the draft beers I have no effing clue. They no longer serve my favorite artichoke pizza, depressed me to hell I need a Zoloft. Gone is the crawfish etouffee with grits, my all time favorite breakfast food. Those were the reasons why I was a loyal customer - consistently good food. And the most blasphemous act of all - a collection of knick knacks have replaced the beer bottles that lined the wall behind the register. I feel like I'm looking at my mother's kitchen instead of hanging out at my favorite joint! Bloody hell. To justify the four stars, they still have the best croissants and spinach quiche for breakfast and I love their tres leches. My attendance has dropped drastically but I still come here when my partner and I feel like a beer and pizza. The pizza dough is very good, so good I even eat the crust which I usually treat as the dirty part that touched my fingers. The wild mushroom pizza is promising, but not like the artichoke pizza. Dammit, I'm taking the loss of that pizza harder than a breakup. The atmosphere reminds me of Europe, I don't quite know exactly why, but only the area in front of the register. Since they've remodeled, it's roomier but less personal, less rustic and lacking that cozy/comforting vibe from years past. I just love that rustic feel of places like Brasil, Mucky Duck's, Feast, Rudi Lechner, etc (note to self, must check out Red Lion Pub). Please bring back the bottle of beers on the wall!! read more

I give Brasil one star- only because they have good food. But lots of places have good food- the Empire Cafe is right down the street and they have good stuff too. Or if you want a place that's really classy and easy on your wallet, try Salento in Rice Village (their lattes are like a dream come true). But if you go to Brasil, you will be treated like crap. You tip at the counter, so after you pay they really don't give a rat's ass about what kind of service you get. I went there for the third time with my wife and a friend who was staying with us from out of town. Our friend ordered right after we did, but her food did not come out for another forty-five minutes after we got ours. We had to ask about her order twice. The second time, they admitted that they had lost the order, and didn't seem to care all that much. "Maybe another five minutes or so?" I asked. "We'll see," replied the counter girl curtly. Our friend finally got her food about an hour after she ordered it. No apologies, no refund, no anything. After that, the same girl continued to be a real bitch and gave me a lot of shit when I wanted a coffee refill. In short, don't go here unless you want to be treated like dirt. The service reminded me of Ed Debevic's- only they're not pretending here. Cafe Brasil knows you'll probably come back for the food, and if you don't, you're just another drop in the bucket. They don't give a rat's ass about their customers. read more

Went here for lunch with a friend. Ordered the brasil club with turkey which was a mediocre sandwich at best. They forgot to put avocado in it so I sent it back... And recieved the same sandwich with two slices of avocado sloppily slapped on by someone with their eyes probably closed. After lunch, we moved inside to get a little studying done, but about 15 minutes later, a well dressed middle-aged man (called himself a worker but I suspect he might've been the owner) asked us to move in order to "clear the tables for customers".. There were about 10 other tables still open.. And it was 3 pm and not anywhere close to getting busy. Anyway I'm not sure what's wrong with the etiquette here but we definitely won't be returning. read more

Brasil serves a wide range of dished from pizza, burgers, hummus, taco fish, salads, small selection of desert, and a nice selection of choice beers all in a rustic setting. The place attracts mostly a hipster/artistic crowd. Today I had the bean burger which is something I've never ordered but I needed something filling and clean. It was actually very good and had a spicy cilantro sauce that complimented the burger very nicely. The bread was toasted fresh and was a good size for the burger. The pizza I've tried have very fresh toppings however the bread is a little thick for my liking and is not as crispy as I like them. Still one of the better pizzas in the montrose area. The Taco fish is tasty and is a very sweet dish, I do wish it had a little more heat for balance. The food and atmosphere are the pros, and the service is the con. The times I've been there, I have never had a meal service come together. Sometimes the food can take a bit longer than expected and if your in a large group it can get irritating for the last person to have their dish arrive so late. read more

Food was good and coffee tasted ok but be ready to get harassed if you go there to get some work done. I ordered a breakfast dish and two iced coffees and I was still pressured every ten mins to either leave or buy something else if I wanted to keep using the WiFi to work. It was very distracting and could not get much work done. My coworkers and I ended up leaving when the WiFi mysteriously stopped working after the sixth time we were told to buy something or leave. Needless to say I will not be coming back to Brasil. Worst experience ever. read more

No place to park...it doesn't matter how good the food is, car gets towed what's the point

This is a great place to come and relax to have lunch or meet people in the evening for great conversations. I've actually have been here twice within this week in the evening time. I normally get the Margherita pizza, which was what I got on Tuesday. Thursday, I tried the veggie burger -black bean burger which was great. You'll definitely need a fork to finish off the burger. Be prepared to park your car off on the neighborhood since there is no parking lot and curbside parking is rare to find unless you're lucky. I'm frequent at one of the coffeeshops across the street, but this is my goto when I want a good hearty meal. PROS: Brasil has great options for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Two fabulous outdoor seating areas with cover and ample indoor seating. Coffee, teas, espresso, wine and beer. When it's a nice day, this is the place to be. Added bonus? The owner's two year old bulldog Boudreaux practically lives here- he's a great companion for the back outdoor patio. CON: the main issue I have with Brasil is that if you come alone to study or read, and it's nearing lunch time.... You will start to notice the staff frequently assessing if you are done with your food and drink. I have been here alone and was harassed three or four times by staff because I had finished eating and I had the tenacity to still be alive and at a table during prime lunch time. The owner had even personally harassed me because I was taking up a table for other customers. I know restaurants are a business, but this was a little overkill for a regular customer who had been at the restaurant for two hours and had purchased two drinks and a meal in that time frame..... So, for those of you looking for a relaxed place to study, avoid coming here alone or during prime lunch time because you will be treated like a criminal. read more

Review #200: one of the places I have visited most during my time in Houston. In the morning, Brasil is full of breakfast wonders. Light croissants, amazing quiche, buttery scones, and fresh coffeee are the quick options; the menu also includes a heavenly breakfast bruschetta that comes with mascarpone and fruit. I'm a fan of their cafe au lait, mostly because they do a good job of keeping the coffee circulating. In the afternoon, Brasil turns into a hangout for HSPVA kids and homework-doers of all types. It's still fun, just a bit louder than in the morning. At night, Brasil can be intimate or wild, depending on the night and the performance going on in the corner. Music ranges from local improv groups to trendy DJs, but it's usually at least palatable (insert plug here for friend's excellent venture that frequently performs here on Friday nights at 10:30). If you don't like the music, you can always escape to their vine-covered patio. Lots of awkward first dates, groups of friends, young couples...a nice, neutral crowd. The wine and beer selection is pretty good, and the food is reliable. Pizza is a good choice. There are parties and film screenings in the back patio from time to time. I've never had a bad time at Brasil. The worst thing that ever happens here is a line for the restroom. read more

Well the Brasil Diary continues... If you recall my previous trip the food was awesome and the service was mechanical yet efficient. Well this time I went in on a Thursday after barnstorming the Museum district for 8 hours - and the service was no longer an issue. The two guys up front were friendly and helpful, made suggestions on how to tweak my order to perfection - the Curried Tuna Salad btw - and actually engaged me in conversation when he noticed the MFA sticker on my shirt. That is the type of quality interaction that sets the tone for a quality experience! I would love to get Brasil into a 5 star, but alas the food was not knock me over and put me back in my chair delicious like the pizza was. :( It was good, the French Fries were really , really good but the bread for the sandwich was a little - not so good - hard to describe but it just seemed too dry and airy, not moist and hearty like I would expect. I thought about added more mayo but that would squelch the curry flavor. I hope I caught the bread on a bad day... Pizza next thursday???...should be a grand slam combo read more

Brasil's and I have watched eachother grow up. I lived on the same block as this Montrose staple for the first 12 years of my life and I can recall when this location was just a bicycle shop. The coffee is great, the pizzas are wonderful (try the chicken verde, thank me later), the salads have wide variety, and the sandwiches are amazing. One con about the sandwiches is that they used to serve them with chips... they have since cut the chips out of the picture all together. Beer and wine selection aint too bad either, and everything is reasonably priced. Brasil's has the walk up, order, and take a number for it to be delivered system so there is not a huge service sector involved. Admittedly the employees haven't always been super friendly, but i don't come here for them. They have Movie night (mondays i think) and play strange and interesting flicks on a projector screen outside, I totally dig this. On most of their other nights they either have a DJ, or Harry Shepherd the Xylophone player, or some slow and jazzy band playing. They serve food until midnight... HUGE PLUS! Oh yes and they have a good brunch on sundays too. Try the Granola parfait. I have found this to be a great spot to meet up with friends for dinner when you don't want to have to worry about splitting the bill. Everyone has to pay when they order. You'd think with all the space they have inside they'd opt for.. like.. bigger tables. Or more comfortable seating.. or.. you know.. a better black bean burger! Food is generally tasty, the hummus as mentioned else where is really tasty, and the price is what you would expect for flashy (but not necessarily better) food. Portions are meh. Wi-fi is a bonus. The black bean burger is bad. The patio is nice but has far too much shrubbery which blocks the view of your local sidewalk walkers. Seemed like Brasil would be a decent place to sit and work for awhile since they have outlets conveniently located and WiFi. I met a co-worker there around 10:45 one morning and between the two of us we ordered a meal, three coffees and a baked good. Every 15 minutes or so a man would come up to us asking if we needed anything else. At first we thought he was just being polite until we had a third person join us. The man came up to our table and basically told us we needed to order or leave because we were "taking up table space and using their WiFi". About 10 minutes later the WiFi got disconnected and we eventually had to leave. I will never go back to this establishment. Extremely poor customer service. read more

Brasil is a coffee shop, but I've still yet to try the coffee. As you move along the line, you might be enticed by the gigantic cookies in the cookie jar. They're not very good. Don't say I didn't warn ya. When I had brunch here, lemon poppy seed pancakes were on the specials menu. They're wonderfully fluffy, so I hope they keep this on rotation. My friend's Brasil Benedicte came with beautifully poached eggs. Seeing as food isn't its primary business, I was impressed. The only issue is that it's really dark, which isn't conducive to picture taking. You know when girls get together, we gotta take a bunch of pictures, and one "lucky" guy in the group is trusted as our photographer. If I'm being honest, my heart still belongs to Common Bond across the street. But for a more affordable and laid back environment, Brasil gets the job done. read more

If the service at Brasil were more consistent, then it would be much easier to recommend this place; but as it stands, Brasil can offer some awful swings in quality and experience, and could use a good deal of improvement. We came after 11:00am on a packed Sunday, and promptly ordered a breakfast burrito and eggs benedict. After sitting down and waiting for a good 30 minutes, we watched the table next to us clear up, get taken by another couple, and have food brought out to them. When I asked the server, she kindly went to check on our order, and informed me that, "what you ordered takes a little longer to make." Now, under no circumstances should it ever take 30 minutes to make a breakfast burrito. Maybe they had to go and buy some more chorizo? By the time our food came out, the table next to us had already cleared up again. The breakfast burrito was actually really good, but the eggs benedict had clearly been sitting for a while, with the ciabatta getting cold and the eggs no longer runny. The food at Brasil is actually supposed to be pretty good. But in an effort to keep their costs and prices low, the execution becomes so frustratingly hit-or-miss. I'll probably try this place again, because it seemed like most of the tables received their food promptly, but certainly never again at their busiest times. read more

I went to Brasil with my roommate early on a Friday morning. I was happy to see that it wasn't very crowded, which I consider a plus. I ordered at the counter and got a number for them to bring the food out to my table. I went with the smoked salmon omelet, which sounded amazing! I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down in the charming, rustic dining area. While the coffee was piping hot, unfortunately, my food was not. Everything on my plate (even the potatoes!) were cold. My roommate and I were on separate orders, so I know they weren't waiting for one dish to finish before bringing out the other. I couldn't quite understand why it would be so cold, but really wished it hadn't been. Otherwise, the food was actually very delicious. I've heard good things about their food so maybe I caught them in an off day. Despite the bad experience, I'd be willing to give them another shot. read more

I found the staff to be a little bitchy. I was there with a decent size group and one of the guys that was working there was hovering a bit making sure that everyone was ordering something and not just taking up space. One guy behind the counter must have been trying to get the coffee nazi title because he was just a complete jackass. I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't even tell you if it was good or not. Brasil is not my favorite coffee shop in Houston. However, most coffee shops I spent time in for the last 10 years had to be study-friendly, and Brasil doesn't have a reputation for being so. Still, it is a fun place to hang out. Here's why: 1. The coffee is fantastic. At the risk of discrediting myself when talking about coffee, let me just say that in the last year or so, I have switched to decaf (OK, gross. Yes, I know how decaf is made. Yes, I know it's not "real" coffee. OK, moving on.). Do you know how hard it is to get good decaf anywhere? Well, recently, when a friend was in town, I took her here after a visit to the Menil, and let me just say the decaf was just as yummy and fresh as anything. My friend and hubby said their coffees were delicious, too. 2. Live music. Years ago, I used to go see the Scattered Pages when they played there every week. Good times. But they still have bands play there, and you can catch something good once in awhile. 3. They remodeled! If you haven't been there in awhile, you should check it out. The bathroom is different and no longer in a scary dark narrow hallway. The place just seems to overall have more open space and more natural light. 4. Lots of local artwork on the walls, and also lots of fliers for things going on about town. 5. The pizza and sammiches. All the pizzas are yummy, but I usually end up getting a sandwich (much healthier!). The veggie club is amazing, as is the fresh mozzarella one. Who wouldn't love bread stacked with fresh mozzarella? Yeah, I dunno either. Also, they come with bagel chips! 6. The desserts. The tiramisu is YUM. The Verdict: OK, so studying is frowned upon, but there are lots of reasons to go, especially if you are in the mood for a good sandwich. read more

Pros: Fast wifi, lots of seating, wide array of menu items. Cons: dark and dingy inside, full of smokers outside. Coffee is sour. Food is OK, considering it's cafe food. EGGS EL SALVADOR: Not bad. Like the red sauce. Other than that, pretty mediocre. FIG AND PROSCIUTTO PIZZA: I like that they have a $1.00 whole wheat crust option. The pizza was not TERRIBLE tasting, it was just... not well thought out. Proscuitto is VERY salty and best eaten fresh off the butcher paper. For some reason they felt the need to chop it up into little pieces and bake it into a chewy salty mass. Even the figs were a little rubbery and over cooked. Perhaps this is a personal preference, but I would prefer a single thin layer of prosciutto laid down AFTER the pizza bakes, and perhaps some honey to offset it's saltiness. Back to Brasil today 3/28/16 for a late lunch. Loved the Brasil Club I had last time, but today the menu was different -- no Brasil club on it. :( So I settled for the Black Bean Burger. Gross! Patty looked horrible and tasted worse. The patty was mushy, wet and tasteless, the pesto-ish-looking sauce too sparse to give it any added flavor--most unappetizing and unsatisfying. For the longest time I've had one question for the customers who go here: How can you just ignore the bug issue? I'm talking inside. They have a huge back patio (of two) with trees, so a tree roach or two are expected there, but they get inside and no one seems to care. It's weird! Some time ago, I brought a friend to Brasil Cafe to show how at night roaches get inside and crawl all over the floors and walls and how customers just go about their business like they don't see them. I won't help you visualize. My friend freaked out when he saw a hipster brush one off his plate and continue eating. Agora across the street has (edit since the fire, had) two patios and I've yet to see a roach in there. Same with Empire and Bacchus nearby--bug free inside. So why go here? Well, Brasil Cafe has an awesome menu: duck salad, healthy pizza, burgers. The place has fantastic customer service. And almost any kind of drink you can fathom. They often have events such as public readings from local poets. They might still do a movie night outside, but I'm not sure. They play cool music and are known to have jazzy bands show up and preform. But the bug issue INSIDE the restaurant alone should make you question going here. I actually gave them a chance today for lunch after a six-month break. Daytime always seemed roach free. I ordered a duck salad and had a dark beer, which was highly recommended and ended up tasting good. After I ate my lunch, couldn't help but notice a bunch of gnats swarming my beer. Again, I was inside--that should be unacceptable by a restaurant's standards. I left way before I wanted to. Got annoyed by the gnats...bugged! They need to take care of the insect problem and more people need to mention the issue to their staff. That's not clean and is unhealthy for customers. It's a bad condition for people to cook around too. I always leave there forgetting to email a Heath Inspector. Might just send them this review. A side issue: Every place in the area, except them, has parking. You have to park your car on the streets and hope no one tows you away in that tow crazy part of town known as Westheimer and Montrose. It's not that bad, but you could go elsewhere and you know park your vehicle safely AND eat in a bug free environment instead of settling for Bugzil Cafe. read more

This is a great place to come if you want a solid brunch/lunch but don't want to have to wait a long time to sit down, since you order at the counter. The line usually isn't bad, but parking is almost always a pain. Expect to park a little farther and walk a couple blocks. When I come for brunch, I always get the French toast and sometimes also a side of potatoes. The raspberry sauce that comes with it is a nice addition. When I went a couple weeks ago, it was for lunch instead so I had to try something new. I decided to go with the spicy copa sandwich on ciabatta and I did not regret it. The French fries it came with were really good (which was surprising for a cafe-type place). I enjoyed the sandwich but it was very heavy on the arugula. Both friends I came with got the chicken club sandwich and both said it was better than they expected it would be, just because a chicken sandwich can be pretty boring, but they said the avocado made the sandwich stand out. Portion sizes are spot on. Only complaint is that it is a little pricy but understandable given the area. read more

Oh yeah, it's good...so good I've been 3 times and have yet to write a review because my belly usually sends my brain into oblivion after eating some of Brasil's absolutely delish pizza pies! But this time, I wasn't gonna let all the blood rush to my fully satisfied tummy and decided to actually write something about the little coffeehouse that could. I first came to Brasil over a year ago and have yet to find a Spinach and Feta pizza that tops theirs. I visited again over this past weekend along with my sister and niece. I had previously taken my 12 year old niece here before and she was raving to her mom about how good the pizza was! After waiting in line a few minutes to order we took our seat and awaited our food. The service is about the only thing I sometimes question here. The staff always seems a bit indifferent, which I guess is commonplace in most coffeehouses but it does get old. For once can the cappa-frappa-whatever guy just refill my tea without the down the nose glare? Aside from the 'tudes, we absolutely obliterated our pizzas in minutes. My sis was impressed with the fresh and flavorful taste of the spinach and feta, and my niece was pleasantly pleased with the spicier pepperoni on their traditional pepperoni and cheese. The crust on the pizza is a huge winner for me, because it's not too thick and has a nice crispness around the edges. Also, being able to have a whole wheat crust makes the "granola" in me a little happier! I gather at some point I will actually order something other than pizza on future visits, but as they say...if it ain't broke, don't fix it! read more

I have always loved Brasil and now they just maintain a really good comfortable level. The food is good, no matter what you are craving. The beer and wine selection does in a pinch. They still can make a good coffee. I of course usually sit on the patio now, because smokers have been banished to the corner, no complaints though. Recently they even had a movie playing. For all the people that say the work staff is snooty, I am assuming you have never worked a low paying service job, even in college. I have always found the baristas and workers very helpful and prompt. If you haven't gone... it's never too late. read more

Margarita pizza: tasted pretty good, had a tasty crust! Fish tacos: didn't like this as much, the plate comes with 2 tacos and a salad which I didn't like. We were sitting in the patio in the back of the restaurant and they started playing "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou". Surprisingly there were many people watching it. We were right in front of the screen and seemed like the only ones eating and talking lol. Kinda weird. read more

A friend of mine took a couple of us to this coffee shop for the first time on an early Saturday morning. He's a regular here, and for good reason. From the quaint patio to the back courtyard, Brasil offered an array of environments in which one could enjoy his or her order of iced coffee or cappuccino. The interior seating by the baristas, whose service was decent, provided the perfect ambiance for both gentle chatter among friends and individual peace with the works of Mr. Ernest Hemingway. But step beyond the crowd of bookworms and hipsters to enter a world of family laughter and fun in a brightly lit section of the building. It was here that I tried an iced Americano. It was stronger than I had expected, a biting aftertaste with each sip, but unique, nonetheless, and reasonably priced. Having to leave only after briefly arriving due to prior engagements, I am sure to return soon. read more

Damn. And I eat my words. Alright so I have been a lover of Brasil and even defended it yesterday when some other yelpers were hatin on the food and service. However, I went to Brasil last night to catch the Wednesday night jazz and now I have to eat my words. I ordered a glass of merlot and the chicken salad appetizer and took a seat near the window. The music was good, the crowd was chill, all was well...UNTIL, a cockroach runs across my table! A GIANT one. Like, if there were a king of the Club for Plump Roaches, this was his fat uncle. I tried not to freak, but before I could finish picking up my stuff to move, the roach reappeared on the windowsill! Was this the same roach? Another one? I couldn't deal. In fact, I am experiencing anxiety right now just recounting it. I moved my party of one to the other side of the restaurant but for the rest of the night, every time a breeze moved my skirt, I froze in fear that the roach was back. Once home, I took off all my clothes, shook them out, then inspected myself in the mirror to make sure that Somali roach hadn't hijacked a ride home. This was freaking upsetting. Some people may think pigeons are cute, but I certainly do not like to see them pecking at leftovers on the next table. At Brasil, this has been a problem on more than one occasion. The counter-service restaurant is notorious for its so-so service; the busboys and 'waiters' are spread thin over the huge patios and indoor space. This means that it can take 45 minutes for a dirty table to get cleared up. Ever walked out to the patio and spotted the perfect empty table, except it is full of dirty dishes and pigeons all over it? Now can you imagine eating there? Where the winged rats have been perusing for tasty leftovers? You wouldn't eat at a restaurant full of rats, so why would you eat at a restaurant where the staff is spread so thin that they can't even bus tables? Last time I was here, this disgusting display sparked a debate about tipping. My companion argued that Brasil keeps prices low for the gourmet food by offering no-frills service. You tip at the counter, before you even experience the service. Tipping keeps the menu prices low. I just don't believe that customers should be expected to supplement the staff's income so that a restaurant can keep its profit margins high. Why didn't the server who dropped off food, whom we tipped generously, pick up the dirty dishes that were being ripped apart by half a dozen pigeons? Or should we bus our own tables and tip the servers as well? I think that busing the table to avoid unsightly and unhygienic situations is a basic service. It's not good service. It's BASIC. Food attracts critters. If they allow this to happen on their open tables, what happens in the back? A clean surface to eat your reasonably priced food is basic service. It's expected. It's REQUIRED of a restaurant that wants an A health code rating. I doubt that Brasil even cares about what Yelpers have to say. They get massive amounts of foot traffic due to their ideal location. They seem to be pretty undiscerning about the bad reputation that they have harvested for their terrible service. This is a far worse offense than not returning a smile. Sometimes, when I stay over in Houston, I go to Brasil for a late night nosh and then again in the morning for coffee and scones. I just love it so much. Last time I got the Spinach Caprese Salad which has fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, and pine nuts with yummy bread on the side. All the breaky baked goods are to-die-for. I can't ever resist the scones. They are so buttery and filled with fresh add-ins, savory and sweet. I often have to get one of each! I love to sit out in the garden which is a secluded tropical paradise, even though it's right on Westheimer. Very lush. Also, most everyone in here looks vaguely European or Latin American, so I feel very cosmopolitan and in-the-know, just by walking in. It's something about the lighting, I think. It has been years since I was last here. I don't know why? Maybe it is because nothing about this building stands out on Westheimer and the small sign is covered with ivy on the Dunlavy side. While, the whole building and patio seems to be covered in ivy and Live Oaks. It just kind of blends into the background. Anyway, this is a charming coffee shop and a great place to grab lunch. Order at the counter, and find a seat with a number. I have always loved the atmosphere here. Exposed brick, tables scattered about the small front dinning area, with a larger one in the back. The patio is one of the best in Houston. Completely covered with trees and ivy, almost secluded from the rest of this busy intersection. They do a bit of everything. Pastries, coffee, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Along with an extensive wine and beer list. Right now, about 24 taps, and they carry things that places like Hay Merchant have not. Like the brand new Ola Duhb 1991. Plenty of Houston and Texas breweries as well. The food is always excellent. I love the Mozzarella sandwich. It comes with your choice of bread/bun. The fresh baked frocaccia is amazeballs. Everything with the sandwiches are so fresh and delicious. Awesome pizzas as well. Don't forget about the baked goods/pastries. Again excellent. This is one of my favorite places on Westheimer, and it is great to see that the quality has not gone downhill at all since I last visited. Now that I have rediscovered this wonderful spot, it won't take me so long to come back. Warning...the line to order can wrap around the corner at peak times. Don't appear to be many reviews of breakfast here so I just wanted to toss in my two cents. Came here on Mother's Day and while there were a bunch of folks here, the line moved quickly. My mom was craving their scones and now I know why. The best scones you will ever have. To me, a scone is a hard triangle that's trying to be a tasty biscuit and sat out too long. but these were made with real butter (you can just tell) and are moist and crumbly and delish. They had savory ones (three cheese cilantro and spinach tomato) and then sweet (a mixed berry treat). I got one of each, and some cinnamon strawberry coffee cake, and my family chowed down. Note - a single scone or piece fo coffee cake is too big for one person. I will go back for brekafast because the fruit/granola/yogurt parfait this lady was having looked amazing, and i noticed on the menu some local chorizo. I assume this means they make it fresh rather than just purchse some packaged stuff. Sounds yum. My mom said they have recently redone the patio and such and it doesn't feel as "seedy" as it might of in the past. So if you haven't been here in awhile, I say it's a worth a trip back. read more

Austin-ee feel spot, with the fresh natural Austin-ee taste, Brasil works just fine for meee. I am definitely not one of those everything organic, cage free, or farm-to-market people. I will pretty much eat whatever, as long as it taste good...sorry I am who I am. But I must say the taste, freshness, and food quality are astronomically greater at these spots and that is definitely no different at Brasil. I was not only impressed with the fresh food and relaxing atmosphere, but the prices and food portions are totally reasonable as well. I went here for the first time for breakfast and I must say that I was impressed. I ordered the Eggs El Salvador and I haven't enjoyed a savory breakfast this much in quite a long time. Two perfectly poached eggs, and a perfect heaping of succulent chorizo in salsa rojo with a complementing salsa verde, and a tad dusting of queso fresco. And the absolutely best part of the dish was the Arepas that it all sat on. This unleavened bread is perfectly soft and crispy, and when you put it together with all the other ingredients it adds texture and depth to the meal. Served with black beans and cole slaw, however because I am not the biggest cole slaw fan, I substituted some green salsa cheesy grits. This was the an absolutely perfect savory breakfast meal. And by the way, get the grits! I love grits and these have a great flavor and are wonderfully cheesy. Ill be back soon! Brasil definitely left me craving to taste more of the menu and I don't want to miss out on the great food it has to offer. read more

Vegetarian friendly fare for frivolous forward feeder. Family and friends gather for frugal feasts. Much Fanfare and festivities are to be had here. Films, flicks, and footage shown secretly behind as we slowly munch complacent and fulfilled. Also the goat cheese and beet sandwich is crazy. read more

I usually come here when they have a live band which used to be on Monday nights... but i'm not sure now though. I've been coming to this place for years too but reading other yelpers... I'm glad that I never had their food. LOL! I usually have their coffee or wine. Oh yeah, and usually get their desserts which is okay. Super cute order at the counter place. Great place to come alone and get work done. I ordered steak and eggs and was very pleased with everything that was served. My friend ordered the tamales and they were very good too. Outside seating is also really nice! Parking can be more difficult however. read more

Cool, laid back breakfast spot in the morning, hipster lunch spot in the afternoon, cool, intellectual coffee, beer place at night. The breakfast fare is great and ranges from omlets, to pastries, to granola, to waffles. Coffee is great and the mood is nice. Sandwiches and salads for lunch are spectacular and delicious. After dinner they have a great selection of cult beers, fantastic desserts, and great coffee drinks. You can't really talk about this place without talking about Empire Cafe just down the street. The outdoor seating says a lot about each place. Empire feels more excited and open. Brasil has a closed in patio shaded by plants that exudes its more closed, darker, and mellow feel. The outdoor seating in the back is something most people don't know about and is great on a nice day. Brasil stays open late (where as Empire closes at 10 or 11), but can get crowded pretty quickly. Parking can also be a hassle given the location. When they have live music or a DJ spinning, its usually pretty interesting and worth your attention. read more
