My brakes had been squeaking for a couple of days so I took them to brake check to get looked at. I had an appointment at 11:00 am and arrived on time for this appointment. I scheduled the appointment because I was under the impression that they would get the work done in a couple of hurs. My wife was home with our brand new baby and cannot drive due to having a c-section. The people their were friendly and courteous but there were only 3 people working at the time of my appointment. To the managers credit he did tell me they were two staff short. The manager himself was one of the people working and they were working as hard as they could to keep up with the car demand. They could not do it of course. At noon they had finally looked at my car and told me what work needed to be done. I agreed and was told it should be about 2 hours worth of work. 4 hours later the manager called me back into the mechanic area and informed me that he was unable to get the drum off of my front two brakes because the machine for doing this was broken. I told him to do what ever he could to get my car completed because I had been there since 11 and it was now 4. I sat there and waited until 530 for my car to be fixed. 6.5 hours of my life wasted at brake check. My poor wife was alone at the house and had no way of leaving if she needed to and I was about 1.5 hours late to pick up my other son at day care. I want to make it clear that I did not have a problem with the workers at the brake check. They were professional and courteous to me the entire time. My problem is with the management. I did talk to the district manager and my wife spoke to the corporate office. They said they told us they would work to fix this problem. Unless your have 6 hours of your life to kill waiting for your car I would not go to brake check to get work done on your vehicle. They told me that I would have to come back in to get my front brake drums done at a later time. I don't think they will get a second chance from me. read more

I honestly was skeptical about coming to Brake Check just because of the low reviews, however, I figured they must have some knowledge in the area which I needed my car worked on (hint: brakes). They have great customer service, they actually show you the items on your car which need to be worked and explain the dangers of not getting it fixed as well as being straightforward about the outcomes. They are pricey, but maybe I just don't know the standard pricing on these services done. Anyways, I came to get new brakes done at another Brake Check location, because mine were near brake failure and the process took a couple of hours, but they communicated effectively. Once I got them fixed, I noticed extreme squeaking, I was told this is normal for the first 500 miles but once I past that I noticed an awful sound coming from one side of my car near the brakes, I came to this location because it was closer and I was informed I needed new drums for my rear tires. I stalled on getting them, thinking I could wait a couple of weeks but the sound got worst and I started to fear I could shatter my brake pads if I didn't get it done soon. Now I was informed I needed new brake pads when I got my new brakes but didn't understand the importance of them. Just a couple of days ago I went ahead and got new drums for my rear two tires which totaled $210. I have a scion Xb. As soon as they were finished, the manager allowed me to ride with him so we could make sure the loud screeching was gone, and IT WAS ! I was very pleased with the service here and would recommend it, I will see if my car makes any other sounds in regards to the brakes but for the most part they did fixed the main problem that I hadn't gotten done with the installment of my new brakes ! read more

I had purchased a used 2004 Hyundai Accent and took it to them for a diagnosed. I spoke to Gerald and explained to him exactly what was going on, which is simplest turn, the car had absolutely no alignment and I was overdue for a tire change and the bolts in them were practically worn out almost falling loose. after the diagnostic Gerald saw things that I never even noticed and brought me to the shop to see them first hand. and at that point i was thinking im about to pay a fortune. with almost everything fixed besides the two axles I could have held off on, I payed only a lil over two hundred.and that includes the four bolt I bought which were 80 a piece. so definitely I have been back and still plan on going back some more!! read more

I will not use again. It has been a year since I used them. I picked up my car as they were closing due to my work schedule. On my way home my car would shake when I applied the brakes. The next day I returned to get them to fix it correctly and they wanted to argue that it was right. They redid the brake job and guess what, it didn't shake. They had already given a quote to replace HID bulbs and my friends talked me into letting them replace them. I've had issues with the lights since. I couldn't drive my car in the dark due to the expenses I had already put into it through Brake Check, while saving for the repairs they said needed to happen. A month ago a friend (who had no clue who worked on my car last) fixed my lights for 1/4th the cost BC wanted to charge. Not only that, he found pieces that BC never connected, AND found a large hard plastic piece that was left loose between the bumper and the radiator that looked as if someone had used a hacksaw to take it off. BC had been the last to work on my car. NOT impressed at all! read more

Two months ago I had work done to my car at another shop. My brakes started making noises shortly after, and that manager wouldn't look at them with out another charge. So I ended up at the been white location. Great choice ! From the moment I got there to the moment I left , I felt very at home. Ej made sure I was taken care of . The staff was great, and very helpful. I appreciate their honesty , integrity and hard work. My brakes never sounded better! This will definitely be the first place I come to for automotive help. Today I stopped in to see if they could tell me why my brakes squeaked. It was a horrible sound. Scott and his crew did exactly what they said they would do. They took off all the wheels and inspected my brakes. They determined what they thought it was and gave me a price. Then as they were working on the problem they discovered how to do it for less and did that instead. I have nothing but praise for their honesty and integrity and the job they did. I came in with a really poorly maintained car. The oil was in a terrible state, the brakes were on their very last leg, and on the verge of completely giving out. Ralph and his team looked over the whole car, took me out and explained what they saw and showed me what, why and how they were doing everything for the brake overhaul. I was so extremely pleased with their service. I feel like the prices were very fair, the guys were very knowledgeable, and they did their best to be fair and let me know what my options are. People always use this medium as a way to air grievances against places that usually aren't as bad as the handful of negative reviews would claim. This is a great shop! Friendly, intelligent and well priced. The guys never tried to sell me on anything. I know vehicle repair and when somebody is trying to sell me something I don't need. Not this shop. I know the price of the parts used and this shop was was very reasonable. I watched Sam change my front rotors and pads like this pants where on fire! These guys move with a purpose! DANGER! The employees at Brake Check were friendly and nice, but I'm not sure they take safety as seriously as they should. Please listen. We went in for a free brake check, not because we were having problems, just to check on the status and maybe get some new pads. Anyway, we decided against any services beyond that because it would end up costing way more than we anticipated. So we picked up our vehicle, and as soon as we got on the highway there began a dangerous wobble in the steering wheel that was NOT there before. Of course we turned right around and went back. Turns out they had never tightened the lug nuts down. The front drivers side wheel was visibly wobbling back and forth. Our vehicle is so large they could barely fit it in their bay, imagine the damage it could have caused on the highway. We're lucky, Brake Check is lucky, and everyone else on the road that day is lucky our wheels didn't fall off. We didn't get so much as an apology from a manager even. It scares me to think so many people come to this place because they want their cars to be safe, and safety doesn't seem to be first priority. Also, don't believe it when they tell you they aren't going to try to sell you anything you don't need and they want you to "use that money for something else." But really that's just typical business man spiel. We've decided we're competent and capable of handling the maintenance ourselves. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

My sad story begins with Brake Check Store #523 in Pasadena TX on 07/21/2017. I have a 2016 KIA Soul and never took it in for service any place else but the dealer, except this one time. I was in a hurry to have the service done because at the end of the month I was moving to El Paso and wanted the serviced before I left. Mega mistake. I had the oil change done and paid for the cabin filter changed. Everything went fine, until the next oil change in September in El Paso at VIVA KIA, when I found out that I needed to replace the oil pan because who ever did the last oil change tightened the oil plug with a pneumatic socket wrench, stripping the threads on the oil pan and the plug and by the way, I needed a new cabin filter. I paid for the new oil pan $191.54 and got the old oil pan. I was told by the service manager that I should request reimbursement from Brake Check. Well that started 6 months of sending the oil pan to different offices of Brake Check in Pasadena, Houston, and San Antonio only to be told lies from every Dept. Head right up to the last person I spoke with Jennelle, who told me, after reviewing my case that she requested a check be cut for me for $247.58, included the oil change service in Pasaden and the oil pan replaced in El Paso. I felt satisfied until I received the check, it was for $24.77. I immediately called Jennelle to tell her nice joke. She was amazed and was going to look into this and would I please send her back the check. I put it in the mail that afternoon. After arguing back and forth for three weeks she finally called me to tell me that the amount of the check was what I agreed to with Joe Goddard, the customer service manager. My advice to all, DON'T USE BRAKE CHECK at all. read more

I don't have the time to detail every terrible experience I've had there, but don't go. I was told I needed a whole new radiator (about $300 or more) when all I needed was a new cap, which i bought at autozone for $10. They said there was also a leak but couldn't even find it after a few hours. I took it to another mechanic, and they found it within half an hour. They've also messed up my car, and when I had to take it back, i was told it would take a few hours to fix, and it took SIX. One of those hours was me sitting there waiting for a part to come in from down the street. After about an hour and a half the manager called to see where the guy was, and it turns out he didn't know he was supposed to bring it. The only thing they can seem to do correctly is oil changes. Sometimes alignment. Pretty much every repair they did only screwed up my car, and I either had to bring it back or go to another mechanic. They don't know what they're doing. Save yourself the trouble and go to mechanics who do. read more

My check engine light was on and I went to a mechanic and they told me I needed a new catalytic converter, which was going to cost $1200. I always get a second opinion. So I took my car to Brake Check to get my brakes checked and they had a computer they hooked up to my car. Roland, the Store Manager, walked through the diagnosis of my car and found it was the oxygen sensor, not the catalytic converter, which is what I suspected. The team put my car on the lift and showed me the parts that needed to be fixed and why. I was very happy with their transparency. I didn't feel like the ripped me off either. I had already done my research on the cost for parts and they were within the range. I couldn't have been more pleased with their business. I will go back to them for any other work. They don't have the ability to do everything a full mechanic can do, but they can do quite a few things. I give them five stars because of their service and transparency. read more

Ill try to make this short. Basically I knew my pads needed to be replaced and apparently the rotors needed resurfacing or whatever. I made an appointment online a week in advance. I get there on time, and they make me wait 30 minutes before even docking my car (even though in the appointment confirmation email it says and I quote "We have reserved your space, and will have the basic parts ready to service your vehicle should you need them." Okay so why does my vehicle not enter the dock til 30 mins after my scheduled appointment time?) Finally its in and they raise it up and take off the tires. They give us an estimated time of about 2 hours. I had a mandatory work meeting I had to be at 4 hours later which we told them. THEN 2 hours had gone by and not one of the MANY mechanics there had touched my car. My boyfriend had to ask them what was taking so long and reminded them that we had to be somewhere soon. The dude then puts two guys on the job. WHAT THE FUCK. So they pretty much are rushing the job because of how long we've obviously been impatiently waiting. They eventually finish after a total of THREE AND A HALF and counting hours that we sat there, alone in the waiting room. I pay the $370 and we leave. And rush to our work meeting. And now the brakes sound like SHIT. Worse than before I came in. I don't know if its just the new pads need to be worn down a bit but I am not looking forward to having to talk to them again first thing in the morning, especially now after reading these other reviews. I took my sons 1999 sentra for repair and we were given an estimate of 1,500.00 and told the part needed was expensive and had to be ordered from the dealer. They kept the car for 2 days claiming they were having difficulty finding the part, After hearing that estimate I said no way and we would pick the car up. On the way to pick up the car the technician called me again to say he spoke with is boss and they would do the job for 575.00. Red Flag!!. I still declined to have the car serviced there because I felt that was still overpriced!. I initially said I would recommend them when we left because I was fooled by the smooth talk.. Boy was I wrong. I paid about 80 bucks for their evaluation of the car and we left. Well guess what folks, we went to the dealer ourselves and found out the so called expensive part we needed was just under $100 bucks tax included at a local dealer right here in Austin! All it took us wan one phone call and a couple of minutes. What a rip off! Obviously the job was not a difficult one because my kid installed the part himself and he is no mechanic! I will never go to this place or recommend them to any one. No integrity, liars and bad business practices. If I could give a rating of zero I would. Unfortunately the rating scale does not go that low. read more
