When I went, there weren't too many people on the ice, but it certainly looked like they needed a Zamboni out there. It looks like this is just for free skaters, and not for hockey. You can rent the skates in these buildings that look like shipping containers, and are free to tear up the ice!
There's a cool big lit sign that reads, "My Helsinki" that serves as a great photo opp.
Right across the plaza from this rink is the play house, the museum, the casino, and all kinds of stores. It's got a wonderful location. It's free to check out, if you don't go out on the ice.
When I went, it was ice cold. Dress warmly.
