Elder Law Guidance

I was very displeased with the services that I received from Elder Law Guidance. I provided all of…read morethe information requested in timely fashion. We were assigned a "team" of a lawyer and an assistant. No problem with the girl lawyer. She was very nice, professional and informative. The assistant was pretty useless in my opinion. I should have insisted on talking to the lawyer more when the assistant didn't return calls when I had questions. I would be a "good guy" and let it slide and call back sometimes weeks later thinking he would call me when he had time. That was my error in judgement and it cost me. They accomplished half of the goals we set and the half they accomplished amounted to nothing in the long run due to the untimely passing of my mother 3 months after retaining the Elder Law Guidance office. They DID NOT get her Medicaid established and blamed it entirely on the nursing home not getting some paperwork filed. I retained them when it was obvious Mom was going to need permanent nursing care. If their assistant had been on point, I feel this would have been caught in a timely matter. I encouraged the assistant to call the nursing home and the nursing home would tell me they hadn't been contacted. They would try to call him and would leave unreturned messages according to the nursing home. I was told by staff, "They never fail to get Medicaid approved once they start a case" and "We'll fight to get this approved" by the assistant. They failed. It was part nursing home and part Elder Law's fault in my opinion. When I began to get disgruntled with the handling of the case because of months of lack of communication and insisted the assistant give me monthly updates, he went three months before I was called again for an update. That was by the lawyer after I left an angry message with the receptionist. Useless!! I just needed some help during a time where my Mom's health was failing and she was actively dying. I thought retaining a lawyer to protect some of her assets and keep me from having to go through the rigamorole of getting Medicaid would be worth it. They charged $10,000 to protect approximately $80,000 and to get Medicaid taken care of. I justified it then and took care of my Mom during that time. My advice is to pursue Medicaid yourself and deal with it yourself. I could have had Medicaid denied on my own. If you can't do it, then go to another firm. I dealt with another firm that my Mom estabilished a trust with in Louisville and we had NO problem with them. I wish we had went there again but I went locally. My mistake. $10,000 goes a long way toward funeral costs. That fancy old house that the office sits in wasn't cheap to refurbish and they have obviously spent plenty of client money to fix it up. Their Google reviews are enhanced by the reviews of the old mansion tours that have passed through. They denied my request for half my money back due to my complaint of poor service with them claiming a lot of time was put into the case and that they had earned it. My common sense says that after the service I received overall, I must disagree that the asssistant or the lawyer put in the time they are claiming was put into this case. It seemed that I only heard from them when the assistant needed another paperwork. I was never kept informed until it was too late and Medicaid was completely denied. They did offer to explain in more detail why my request for a refund was denied in an email. They said that would be free of charge! How thoughtful! Two stars because they did get a plan together to protect some money and some numbers crunched for Medicaid that didn't go through.

This team of professionals is the most exceptional group of people I have yet to meet. They are…read morededicated to going above and beyond in their services. I highly recommend them for your estate planning needs, especially if you are needing Medicaid Long Term Care.
