Having spotted the Glass House Mountains on our map during a road trip from Brisbane to Cairnes, we…read moredecided to make a detour and follow the Tourist Drive route up to the Glass House Lookout. The folks at the tourist information centre down at the base of the mountains were very friendly and helpful, giving us several maps and advice on the best route to take. The centre itself is well-kept and informative about how the mountains came into existence, as well as the history and folklore surrounding them. The drive up to the lookout takes 20-30 minutes after leaving Bruce Highway, and is a lovely drive through thick trees. Once you reach the lookout, you can see around 8 of the mountains in the distance - it's not the best view in Queensland, but the shapes of the mountains are really quite curious and it's not something you see every day. If you have an hour or so to spare on a drive up the East Coast, I would recommend making this detour.
