As far as versatile community centres go, the Box Factory is brilliant. The real stand-out is that it's open until late. It's hard finding free meeting spaces for community groups that are open after hours (however, it does mean that it's not open during the day as it's used by a U3A). There are a number of smaller meeting rooms downstairs and a much larger space upstairs (with lift access) that can fit 70+ people. There's also a large kitchen space that can be used for meetings as well. Be aware that this means there are usually two or three different groups meeting there at any one time so you may want to have someone at the door to help guide people to the right room. For an inner-city venue, there's plenty of on-street parking. The Coopers Ale House is 2 minute stroll down the road if you need a bite to eat or a more casual venue for after-meeting drinks. Just like the other Adelaide City Council community centres, there's free Wi-Fi but be aware that it can be a little flaky in the back rooms. Jess and the team that work there are fantastic and very accommodating. They have a projector, whiteboards and markers available on request. It's worth making your bookings well in advance as it's popular and there are some groups that meet regularly there. If you're stuck for a venue or want something to yourself, you can try the Southwest community centre that can be open after-hours on negotiation. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with the facilities on offer for the Community at the Box Factory. It's quite big! The Adelaide City Council has done a great job making sure that the building is well kept. There are computer rooms, meeting rooms, function room and even a well sized kitchen available for hire by Community Groups. You can see that it is quite an active place when you see all the programs on offer at the entrance. I had no idea! I used the Kitchen for a cooking event. It worked pretty well. We all tried to use the space in the best way possible by using the tables in the center of the room as a prep area. It was a great event and I would look at booking it again for other events. This Venue suits more of the educational or low key style events. I saw another group watching movies in the large function room with the projector. That looked fun. Just keep in mind if you are looking at this Venue is that it is a Community Centre. So, it's not flash. Last thing to mention is that it has a great location. You can get free parking on the streets around. So being so close to the CBD, that is a big bonus for your guests. read more
A FANTASTIC city location for just about anything! The Box Factory is a space run by the Adelaide City Council and available to book for community organisations. there are a number of rooms available, including a spacious and fairly well equipped kitchen. There's free wi-fi, use of computers and a range of general meeting-ishy things - think white boards, projectors and the like. Well located, with plenty of car parking the centre is always filled with a diverse range of activities - I've participated in theatre classes and cooking classes while I've seen others participate in tai-chi, cultural dance classes and even the coordination of (peaceful) protests! Definitely keep this place in mind if you've got an idea for something but can't find a space in which to do it! read more
