However, when I was taking a picture of the cool new Frida Kahlo fragrance after I had looked at the new Covo Mademoiselle one of the workers came to me with swatches of lovely and not so lovely fragrances. Good thing she wasn't pushing or irritating. While I was trying to buy a new Dolce and Gabbana for women she had me smell a great smell from Tous which is a fragrance I never knew anymore. Soooooooo, I ended up buying it because it was so lovely. I also got Shine from Dolce and Gabbana which is very light and citrusy. I was very pleased with my purchases. They gave me some samples which I admit I haven't looked at yet. I'll come back here next time in Cancun.

It is located in the La Isla Shopping Village in the Zona Hotelera, so it's convenient for most tourists. In addition to all the stuff you'd expect to find in a department store, they have a "Tax Free" kiosk that will help you file for the return of any Mexican taxes you pay on goods you've bought while in Cancun (and not just stuff you bought in Liverpool, but anywhere--as long as you have the receipt, credit card, passport and your flight info with you). This makes it worth its weight in gold (or at least, in Pesos...). The attendant, Martin, was very helpful and we visited him so many times that got to be on a first-name basis with him (if you go there, say "Hi!" from me).

Duty... Everyone hates taxes. That's why they call them…read more'duty.' This tax-free liquor, cigarette and gift shop is pretty handy. There's a pretty okay selection of tequilas, which skews heavily towards the fancy stuff that you buy just for the bottle. The mezcals are diverse, offering things you don't see in every liquor store. The clerks are a bit on the pushy side. It's 10am and they sure push sample shots of tequila. The cigarette selection seems to turn over enough for them to have fresh packs. They're missing a lot of brands. I've seen better selection in Oxxo. Get this - the salesmen on the floor are empowered to give a 5% discount on anything for any reason they see fit. Make them give it to you. The store is well lit, and there are some deals, I guess. You kinda need to know what you're looking for here, and about how much it should cost, because not everything is a deal. Honestly, I'd stick with the tequilas.

I had only carry on luggage, so was not possible to bring it from USA. I saw the orange gift box and made a beeline for it. I was immediately asked if I needed assistance and the man pointed out their other champagne options. I was not interested because I drink Veuve at home when I do drink champagne. It was priced at $67. I pay $54 at Publix in Miami. Not a bargain, but could have been worse. They ask for your passport & boarding pass to complete the purchase. Was very convenient for me & worth the extra spend.

My favorite thing to do here is to sniff through a sampler tray of perfumed oils, especially their vanilla, the lavender and my kiddo loved the melon flavor. Should have picked some up, but showed up on a random Thursday night (last shopping day of my visit) and the shop door was closed. Drat! Well worth pursuing the homemade perfumes here, should you be lucky enough to catch them open.

The other items don't seem to be a deal either. The lights shine much brighter than the service does. At least everything is shown in USD on the tag. It's all lit up in here, man. It's an airport…read more Not terrible. Not great. In the summer, you have to wear shorts inside because it's so muggy inside (AC be damned). Avoid the shops! Workers will blatantly discriminate against Black patrons (which is so... in Mexico?) And even if they did not racially profile, all of the vendors are selling the exact same 10,000 sku's. Walking to another gate wont diversify your list of crap to buy. All of its very cheap, very american, and all made in china. 80% of the bathrooms are clean and lines are not usually not long. Bugs indoors are likely and unavoidable(?) The earlier in the day you travel, the worse the security and custom lines vary. But personally, I flew through TSA the last couple of trips. And this isn't an airport issue but more of a Cancun complaint. No ginger-ale? Anywhere? In any form?

This place feels super safe- when I went, I was pretty much shadowed by security forces wearing armored vests with walkie-talkies. This is actually kinda the entrance to even fancier places, a ferris wheel, and high-end residences. The mall doesn't seem to have any public restrooms. There is no food court, just a smattering of high end places that are kinda tucked here and there throughout the mall. Parking looks challenging. I'd rather take the bus here. When I went, it appeared that they were expanding the footprint of this shopping mall.

Much better deals than the hotel gift shop if you forgot something.
