I'm a bit of a atheist at heart but I would definitely pray 5 times a day in the direction of Hanby Ales, and their great leader, Mr Jack Hanby. Jack is probably one of the most toasted men alive, after we took 2 barrels of Hanby Ale to Glastonbury with us for the first time in 2005. Nothing less than a stroke of genius, this courageous act (have you ever tried carrying this much beer for 5 miles?) resulted in plastic beakers raised round the campfire till the sun came up for 6 straight days as we lovingly cradled our pints of 'Nutcracker' and 'Cascade'. Nutcracker is a dark 6% bitter that really hits the spot on those slightly chilly summer evenings in Pilton. Cascade is a lovely light hoppy brew that is deliciously refreshing at anytime of day or night. When I first turned up at Hanby's - I was given the full brewery tour as we waited for our ale to decant. We sprinted up and down ladders and peered into vats and got back to the floor in time for not a drop to spill. The then packed our handy 40 pint boxes of ale into the boot and paid (cash only!) and set on our way. I should probably talk about the awards that Hanby Ales have won. I think you could summarise it in one word - loads. Taking the gold at the Great British Beer Festival in the strong ale category for Nutcracker must have been quite a party! But I ramble. Suffice to say, this small corner of an unassuming industrial estate in rural Shropshire is nothing short of magical.

I visited the brewery a few years ago with a friend to pick up some Hanby ale before a previous glastonbury adventure, and the place is really nice. Jack also seems like a really nice guy, who certainly knows a thing or two about brewing. For our trip to glastonbury, we bought three 40 pint boxes of ale. The boxes have a plastic sack inside which is filled with ale. You might think that this would affect the flavour, but personally I thought it tasted as if it was fresh from the barrel. I particularly recommend Nutcracker ale, which won first prize in the Great British Beer Festival Strong Ale category in 2007. It's absolutely delicious - one of the best beers i've ever had.

I popped in here one lunch time after having passed this place many a time whilst en route to the…read morecentre. It's always looked busy with people either sitting outside or queuing at the counter. You can have a flavour of what they have to offer through the window display, as favourites are written on the window. When I walked into the deli I found a massive selection of products: cheeses, meats, pies, pastries, antipasti. I was really impressed by the variety of food on offer, both local from further afield. I ordered an Italian chicken bap, on seeded bread and it was really top notch. The chicken was succulent and full of flavour, and it came with a decent amount of salad. I also had a couple of stuffed vine leaves, which you can buy for 30p per vine leaf which was a nice treat. The cakes and the multitude of pies also looked extremely appetising. The only criticism I have was that the air conditioning was leaking just where people were queuing, which was not ideal. I can't wait to head back, a nice little find in Macclesfield.

The reason for my being here is that the hard-working BF has a foodie gig and that's my excuse to sit in the coffee shop and have the four of the most productive writing hours of the week. It's not Trentham Gardens (also reviewed) because there is only 1 place to get said coffee (writing fuel) and that is the 'fine dining restaurant.' This means plain old Americano (I asked for filter, that somehow translated to Americano) is close to the £2.50 mark for a little cup & saucer. However, it is a lovely place to sit and work, if only I didn't feel like I was in the way of the lunchers. The tables were already set for the meal when I went in but the waitress kindly asked me to sit at a table that hadn't been set for lunch. This added to my discomfort although I plugged in my headphone and focussed on the tasks to hand. The coffee was fine, the service very good but perhaps I should just go back for lunch. It seemed very popular!

It is only a small store but is well stocked and never too busy. It easy to find all the latest promotions they have on offer. I find the staff very helpfull and they always have plently of tills open so you dont have to wait too long. They stock a nice selection of clothing also.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I popped inside (I was tempted in by a several foot "cheese" on the front) the cafe looked cute, not rough, and it felt quite farm shop-y, but most impressively, the enormous cheese counter. 200g blocks of various concoctions, priced at 4 for a fiver?! Lovely staff, and lovely cheese!
