We met with Ashley several times prior to the wedding. Ashley, my wife and I all "clicked" from the moment we met over Facetime. While we were considering several very skilled photographers, we went with Moments and Mountains because we thought we'd have the most fun with Ashley. We were right. We had our engagement session at Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon, on a busy Friday evening. In the photos, it looks as if we had the entire bookstore to ourselves. I am an extremely awkward person who is uncomfortable with public displays of affection, and I tire quickly from being on camera. With Ashley as our photographer, we forgot we were on film and just had fun throughout. After the engagement session, Ashley helped us plan, create a timeline for both a rainy day and sunny weather, and prepare for the big day. Additionally, Ashley found a "second shooter," who was equally skilled in her photography craft (THANK YOU COURTNEY!) On the wedding day, Ashley was the stalwart to our mental health, helped keep folks on time and organized, and captured the perfect moments. She made sure we had every special photo we asked for, went through our family formal list with a fine-toothed comb, and consistently checked in with how adventurous we were feeling re. locations for photos (it lessened throughout the evening). In addition to the staged photos, Ashley captured candid photos of our guests and the most important people in our lives in special moments, while dancing, while taking space in the garden, and while looking adoringly at their spouses. I found Fairies & Frogs Photography via a Google search and was instantly drawn to her website and portfolio. After exchanging a few emails with Anne I knew she was the one I wanted to photograph our major milestone. Even my husband was surprised with how kindly I spoke about her because he knows how much I struggle with trusting photographers. We had everything planned several weeks ahead of time so I could rest easy knowing everything would be perfect the day of. I was thrilled when we arrived at her easy-to-find cozy studio in Olympia. Every single other venue in the area charges by the hour, or offers packages that give you six hours start to finish. We opted for the full package (when we paid it was $2500). No nickle and diming, no having to clean up after your own wedding, linens, tables, tents, everything included. We had all day on our wedding day (August 15, 2015), and because it was open, were given access all day the Friday before. Jamie and his wife were quick to give us great answers and do anything they could to help beforehand. Jamie worked really hard before, during, and at the end to make sure it went smoothly. At one point, when I was exhausted and stressed (my chef disappeared and I--with the help of family I hated asking to help--had to cook all the food), he sat down next to me and calmed me completely. This is the thing about this venue--they love what they do for a living, and haven't forgotten how important your wedding is to you. As I looked at all the leftover food at the end I felt bad, and found out it was being donated to a nearby group home--just an example of how positive you'll feel about everything here. I was thrilled today, one month after the event, to find that 100% of my deposit had been refunded. I'm sure you all know how many businesses of all types try to find a way to eat that up. Not here. If you want super posh, maybe this isn't your venue. If you are someone who is not spending 30K or more on a wedding like that one you've seen on TV, this place is fantastic. Loads of lovely outdoor space with multiple tents available, we had plenty of room for tables, a band and dancing inside as well.
