Big changes at Borderview Dental, as Dr. Mason Cooper retired and sold the practice. The new dentists are Dr. Michele Lim, and Dr. Jong Yoon. I think they compliment each other well, Dr. Lim is very outgoing, and Dr. Yoon is very calm and low key. I went in for a cleaning and exam with Dr. Yoon, and he was really thorough and low key friendly. I could hear Dr. Lim working with a child, she was doing a great job of keeping it upbeat and unstressed. There is a massive shortage of dental hygienists in the area, some are coming from as far as Marysville to work up here, but it's a very tough market. Dr. Cooper lost all of his hygienists during the early partvof the Covid outbreak. read more

I was having really bad dental anxiety prior to my extraction, but to my surprise the procedure went so wonderfully, and honestly it just felt like it all went by in a blink of an eye and the procedure was over. That being said, the dentist and assistant were so helpful and made sure everything was super comfortable for me! Went this dentist with my daughter in February of 2022 and they severely botched my daughters root canal. They were originally in-network with my insurance but I had heard they changed that so I called yesterday to verify they still were in-network. I phrased my question about the insurance multiple ways to be absolutely sure even quoting my co-worker regarding the change and they repeatedly told me nothing had changed and that they were still in-network but when I showed up for my daughters appointment the very next day they told they were not in-network so I'd owe a copay AND they said they still owed me a refund from mine and my daughter's previous appointments that amounted to over $200! Why would you not just call me right away and ask me if I wanted it refunded or just kept as a credit on my account?!?! Avoid this dentist! read more

I have had complicated dental issues my whole life. I have worked with 7 dentists in the Northwest, including 2 prosthodontists. The last 3 years I have been going to Borderview Dental and I could not be happier. Yesterday Dr. Lim restored some bonding on my front teeth, that a previous dentist botched twice, and I left there with a big smile of joy. She is an artist! Last year Dr. Lim made a crown for me that fit well, looks good and is working great. I am also very pleased with the dental assistant and the hygienist who worked with me, and the front office staff are very friendly and helpful. The waiting room is relaxing, and all the treatment rooms look out to nature, creating a calm, soothing environment. I am beyond happy with this dental practice, and am overjoyed to find such high quality so close to home. I highly recommend Borderview Dental. read more

The 3 stars are the average of 5 stars for Dr Lim, tech assistant Barb, and front office staff, and 1 star for Dr Yoon. Dr Lim did a crown replacement - numbed up the area really well - I did not feel a thing. She is soft spoken and very gentle. I really recommend her. Temporary crown came off after a few days so went back to have it reglued in place. Dr Yoon's tech assistant refused to do it until I wore sun glasses she said it was 'the law' from OSHA! By the by, Osha deals with employee/employer issues for occupational health and safety - and it does not state that patients are legally bound to wear sunglasses - it 'recommends' protective eyewear for dentists and dentist employees. She ran off to Dr Yoon who came in and told me he had nearly blinded the son of his friend because he dropped 'chemicals' on his eyes.. After realizing he was not joking, my mind immediately went to 'oh my, what if he drops chemicals on my exposed skin? My hair? My ears?' in over 60 years of dentist visits I've never had any of them spill 'chemicals' on me (though seeing as water is actually a 'chemical' I guess I've had water from the drill spray onto my skin LOL). Unfortunately my final crown appointment was taken by Dr Yoon (I'd booked Dr Lim) so I had to deal with him all over again. I did not wear the sunglasses to have the final crown glued in place. When I checked out at end of appointment I found out that he had stated on my record that I had declined wearing sunglasses and that I was required to wear them for future appointments. Dr Lim does not require that. And after researching it, there appears to be no law that I can find that states that citizens of WA (or the USA for that matter) are legally required to wear sunglasses while sitting in a dental chair. The ADA may recommend it to their dentists that patients wear sunglasses, but it certainly does not seem to be the 'law'. I really don't like health professionals making stuff up about my legal rights and obligations. Of course he can always have a big sign as you enter his office saying he refuses to provide dental services to anyone who doesn't wear sunglasses...so I will go elsewhere for dental services (luckily there are many dentists to choose from between Blaine and Bellingham). I'm sure there will be another compassionate and caring dentist like Dr Lim out there :) read more

Update to my previous review. Everything still wonderful but I wanted to add that they are doing such a great job with the Covid protocols. I felt totally safe as I don't have to wait indoors in the waiting room for my appointment. They have you park out back and call the posted number and then they come out to get you when it's your turn. Another great thing is that they respond immediately to everything with a text. So I've called in there when they were out to lunch and left A message and get an immediate text back seeing if they can help me. It's very convenient and easy to communicate with this office! I really appreciate that they are there choosing to work and help us during this challenging time! read more

in 2020 I made the switch to Borderview from my previous dental office. I really enjoyed the staff and always had a pleasant experience. The hygienists were quick, knowledgeable, and so friendly, and Dr. Cooper really helped me in resolving my sensitive teeth issue as well as answering any questions I had about procedures. Since late 2021 Borderview has been under new ownership, and while I wanted to give them a nice review, I found the "chair side manor" of the new staff to be significantly downgraded and the services they provide to be less quality. I originally thought I may be biased because of the wonderful treatment I had before, so I scheduled one more appointment. But I received no answers to my questions, an oddly rough teeth cleaning, and a frustrating payment process. Overall, I'm sure the new Borderview will be great for some, but I for one will be seeking a new dentist. read more

I live in Blaine and decided to find a dentist closer to home. I had a tooth extracted in 2016 by another dentist and this week I needed another and saw Dr. Cooper for that. The week prior I got my teeth cleaned at Dr. Cooper's office. I love the staff! They chat and are very funny. You can joke and laugh with them and this is a good thing. Dr. Cooper is much the same. Easy going, down to earth and very good at what he does. Both Dr. Cooper and his staff take the time to explain things and provide viable options for your consideration. No pressure and always with your best health in mind. The cleaning appointment was very comprehensive and again, involved smiling ans friendly staff. I had a tooth that cracked in half some time ago and Dr. Cooper present options to save it or pull it. As I already am in need of partials to make up for periodontal disease when I was much younger, I decided on the extraction. On the day of the extraction I explained to staff that I did not want the traditional (and very painful) 4 shots of Novocaine in the roof of the mouth or in the root of this tooth. The dental assistant spoke with Dr. Cooper and promised me all would be fine. Dr. Cooper was very smart. Unlike the dentist I used a couple months back, Dr. Cooper filled one large syringe instead of 8 smaller ones and worked on getting sensation to cease. He gave me a break and then another large one. However, there was NO pain and I did not feel him administering the shots! Great! Dr. Cooper explained that if I had ANY discomfort to raise my hand. He started extracting the tooth and all was great. I did have a very minor sensation but as there was no pain or discomfort, I did not interrupt him. There was no need. My choice. That evening there was NO pain and now everything has healed up. I love this dentist and his staff. I will see them for all my cleaning, whitening and dental needs. They are opening office in a brand new building on H Street in Blaine next month. I would highly recommend Dr. Mason Cooper and his staff. read more

I had been to the previous dentist, Dr. Rathe's client, so did not know what to expect when Dr. Cooper bought the practice. Wow! was I pleased. I've always taken reasonably good care of my teeth, so I came in for a regular cleaning with x-rays as they were running a "new patient" special. The digital technology was great, and highlighted a couple of incipient problems with an old filling and a crown that I have. They printed out estimates for what those repairs would cost, and the price seemed quite good. The cleaning was excellent, and I will definitely go back to Dr. Cooper. read more

Bottom Line...I LOVE THIS DENTIST: I left feeling safe, happy and very well cared for. I had not been to the dentist in 7 years and was rather concerned the cleaning would be painful. Plus, having just moved to Washington State, I have not been very pleased with some of the medical care professionals I have encountered. Therefore, this dentist was a most welcome surprise. My experience began with the authentic and welcoming reception. Then was bolstered by the awesome cleaning, their hygienist has hands of grace. She is skilled beyond measure and took kind care of my mouth. I nick-named her "Queen Goddess of the Mouth - Denturia!" lol. Was frankly the most thorough yet gentle cleaning and polishing I have had in all my 44 years, anywhere. And the dentist. He is a doll. Talented in his trade, and truly committed to making the whole experience an A+. He has painstakingly remodeled the place to be a restful haven, even down to planting pretty things out the window for me to ponder while in the chair. And he is a tech guy...so they have state of the art equipment. Traditional tools married with new technologies makes this dentist the place to go. I think my cleaning was so easy in part because of their sonic cleaning technology. I also loved that the xrays were digital. Not a bunch of film waste and immediate digital results. They even offered me a pair of sunglasses to wear in the chair, so the lights would not bother my eyes. They make their magic in their experience and their attention to the small details. YES.
