This is quite a book store for a small town. My wife thought it was bigger than Barnes & Noble. She found what she was looking for. I wasn't really looking for anything specific, just something new and interesting to me. I was over whelmed with the selections available. I needed more time. Friendly helpful staff. A million books, possibly?

This was the first stop on our quick visit to Hot Springs and Bathhouse Row during a roadtrip from…read moreChicago to Houston. So interesting to hear from Bill about not only about the history of this and other bathhouses, but also how the thermal springs water is collected, what caused the decline in the 70s and 80s and the measures in place designed to prevent the spread of illnesses, like frequent testing of the water for viruses and bacteria. Very interesting to hear about the fears and impact of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s on Hot Springs as a contrast to the current pandemic. The current Lamar Bathhouse is a stone, brick and stucco Spanish style structure. It replaced an earlier Victorian building that honored US Supreme Court Justice Lamar. The bathhouse was unique in that it offered 5 different tub lengths to accomodate a variety of heights. Several of the original tubs are on display (or can be used for a photo op). Murals and stencils were added in the 20s to elicit a more European flavor. Today, Lamar Bathhouse functions as an admininstative building and has the park store, Bathhouse Row Emporium. Ask for Roxana for fun gift ideas. Make sure to stamp your Park Passport here and at Fordyce Bathhouse if you collect stamps. They are different at each site.

Wow! This place is reorganized and has a nice gentleman staff member now too…read more There's a whole room on your left as you come in devoted to classics and award-winning books. There are even chairs here and there to relax on. The lower level nonfiction wasn't very impressive but I'll be back to check out the classics. (It was too crowded to go in on this Saturday.) They should really put a sign outside saying they've reorganized and cleaned up and have three levels of books. Otherwise people who stopped by when it was old and crappy won't even know.

I had a pretty tight timeline for getting on the road, but as I was on my way from the hotel to the…read morecar to leave town, I spotted this bookstore...and happily blew my itinerary by spending almost an hour here. It is a GREAT used bookstore and would be so in any city. + Handsome--hardwood floors and copious natural light + Four floors of stock + Tidy and well organized + Exceptional variety of subjects and genres + All books in good condition or better (most better) + Staggeringly low prices (to a Chicagoan) + LPs and DVDs Plus, they are operated by the Central Arkansas Library System, so I hope and assume that proceeds from the store benefit the libraries, which is always awesome. On top of all that, I finally found a book here for which I had been searching through dozens of bookstores in several cities for over a year. And although I would have happily taken a shabby paperback, what I found was a boxed, cloth-bound Library of America edition, including several of the author's other works--FOR ONLY SIX DOLLARS! That kind of bookstore good fortune is extraordinary.
