You can tell that great care is taken by curating the collection, especially in the children's book and Canadian/PEI history sections. I found a delightful "Winnie The Pooh" book from the 50's that was very fairly priced for its condition and age. They're not priced to move - the books here are priced aggressively, and rightly so! It's a town where many a tourist passes through, ready to spend their money. I was all too happy to help stimulate the local economy and bring home to NYC a book I'll treasure for years to come.

When I was younger, I never noticed all of the yarn, but now that I'm a knitter, it was the main thing I wanted to see. The shop has a great selection of yarn and accessories (including cute anti-slip stickers for the bottoms of slippers & the biggest colour selection of Phentex I've seen) in the back corner. On top of the great products, there's a cute little coffee shop in the front. You can pay for your coffee shop order while you're paying for your products at the main cash. We did have to ask at the cash to make an order as no one was at that counter. It was no problem to quickly bring up a guy from another part of the store to pull a shot of espresso. This is a perfect shop for a crafter with kids! The kids can look around at toys while the crafter can stay in the yarn section. The staff are friendly and easy-to-talk to with the woman I spoke to on cash also being a crafter. There is lots of parking alongside the building and you can easily spot it on the main road into Charlottetown.

Prices on the pieces I looked at ranged from $30 to several hundred $, so you should be able to find something in your price range. The woman staffing the store when I was there was knowledgeable about the works and the artists, so your questions will be answered in a friendly way. Great place to make a PEI purchase.

A small amount of fine antique furniture items is also part of the gallery mix. Whenever I have a special gift that I want to give or whenever I want to treat myself, this is the first and last place that I head to, because I always find something out-of-the-ordinary at Details Past and Present.

So many beautiful things meant that I knocked off a whole pile of Christmas shopping while visiting for Canada Day, plus some adorable sandpiper earrings as a souvenir for myself. The owner is friendly and knows about all the artists providing things for sale in her store. I was wearing the earrings through the next day and found after we'd left PEI that one sandpiper fell off. I contacted the store and they very quickly got back to me and put a new pair in the mail to replace the first. Can't ask for much more than that. Definitely stop in if you're visiting the Island and want something more unique than the standard souvenirs to remember it by.

The items are beautifully displayed, and you could tell the owner really has an eye for style. There was a large variety of items at a range of different prices. I love that they are size inclusive as well. I had a blast shopping here, and the owner helped accessorize some of the outfits. I got a couple of dresses, paid of shoes, belt and lounge wear. It was such a fun experience shopping here, I could have spent hours looking for treasures! Both Gayle and I found some nice gifts, and my only regret is giving away a really cool magnet that Gayle's sister took a fancy to. I highly recommend this place to anyone else who happens to be in the neighborhood.
