I feel like one star reviews are for places with no redeeming qualities. Our waitress was super kind. She may have been newer because she didn't seem to know the menu well, but that's fine. She checked on us and refilled our glasses etc. I regret using my gift card here. It definitely ranks as some of the most disappointing food I've had when going out to eat. Overcooked, bland, and not the right temperature. I'm surprised by the amount of good reviews on Google. Maybe the cooks had a bad night? I am surprised that this place was not rated higher on yelp. We visited Friday eve at around 6:30. First impression was that this restaurant looked classy, decor is lovely and service was good. The food was flavorful and on point, the prices were also standard for any seafood establishment. This place has had my heart since we first ate there in Tennessee a few years back! It was on the top of our list to visit as soon as we relocated to the Hampton Roads area. The Bang Bang shrimp is STILL amazing and flavorful as it has always been. Every dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The seafood is always fresh and the menu is perfect. Not too overwhelming with hundreds of dishes. I had the crushed pineapple martini and it was delish. The butterfish was just as it sounds. Very smooth and buttery in texture and topped with lump crab. The sides were mouth watering as well. Our server was top notch and we have grown to expect nothing less from this establishment. Overall Bonefish Grill is a great place for drinks and small plates. I've only visited Bonefish Grill during happy hour and for its Bang Bang Shrimp. Bonefish does happy hour well because it has multiple drink and food options on its happy hour menu. Plus, most of the happy hour food and beverage items are around $6, which is a great deal. Although everyone comes here for the Bang Bang Shrimp, the mussels are AMAZING!!! The butter broth compliments the dish quite well. Even though the plates around $6, the services are perfect for share with another person. Although I gave this place 4 stars, this rating is based on several visits. However, the service was slightly subpar during our last visit. Our waitress seemed to have a bit of a bad attitude. I'm so glad we came here! My mama and I had been to a Bonefish in Myrtle Beach last year and it was so good that we wanted to come back while we were in VA beach. We were blessed to have Donte as our server. He was one of the sweetest, most real and attentive servers I have had in forever. He got down on a personal level and made our dinner experience even better. That's true customer service. He really was exceptional. I ordered a salad, filet and lobster and Donte made sure my filet was cooked perfectly. All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and the dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives was also perfection! Bonefish Grill is my favorite restaurant, I usually go to the one in Newport news. But my husband and I were in Virginia Beach so we thought why not. When we arrived there was a 20 to 25 minute wait. That's OK. The hostess was kind of unfriendly though. Her greet was how can I help you? It was not the most friendly greet. We ended up only waiting seven or eight minutes. The other host that walked us to our table was very friendly and pleasant. Our server was Maria, she was very nice and friendly. The menu has changed a lot since we've been to bonefish apparently. They didn't have the regular tuna sashimi they now have a tuna sashimi tempura so we ordered that. It was pretty much the same with some tempura crumbles and it was absolutely amazing did not disappoint. We also got the bang bang shrimp gotta have the bang bang shrimp. It was awesome as usual. Bonefish is pretty consistent about their food quality and recipes. We love that. We got the lump crab chowder also, it was delicious. They got rid of the crème brûlée which made me really sad. We did have to wait for water refills longer than we would have liked. Overall we had a really good time and everything was wonderful. Side note, the women's restroom appears to need some maintenance. There's a hole in the wall, and a crumbling wall that looks like an attempt has been made to repair it but not quite. Had a small, private dinner here with coworkers for Christmas last night and they took really good care of us. We were supposed to have a much larger party but after about 10 people and their spouses didn't show up it was a small group of 7. We still had a nice private room but we had it all to ourselves. So the 2-3 servers assigned to us went down to just one, Matthew. He took great care of us throughout the night. He never rushed us and was quick with refills and anything we asked for. I saw about 10 items on the menu I could've easily ordered and enjoyed. A coworker chose the salmon salad and it looked delicious. Packed with lots of goodies and a generous piece of salmon on top. I chose to go with the Chilean sea bass with sides of rice and green beans. They have a lot of healthy sides and veggies and I appreciate that. I also got the butter sauce on the side. The rice was a bit dry and tasteless but I managed. The green beans were delicious as was the small side Cesar salad I enjoyed. They have daily specials which change often and had a nice dessert selection with a daily special bananas foster dessert as well! Clean inside, a nice bar area, and large spacious bathrooms. This has been on my list to try for years and it was very good. It was very quiet at 8pm on Sunday but perhaps is busy during other times of the weekend. read more

My second meal here....and a second good experience. In a town known for seafood, the chain does well at holding it's own against other seafood restaurants. The bang bang shrimp was delicious but the stellar appetizer was the crab and shrimp dip. I nearly stabbed my dates hand with my fork because he was legitimately shoveling it in and leaving none for me! The entrees were a nice proportion and left us more than satisfied. I always wanted to try out the Bonefish, and I finally had a chance to try it out through the Yelp event. This place is bigger than it looks like from the outside so it is good for either small or big groups. We had a Crispy Cod Sliders and a Wagyu Beef Sliders and a fruity cocktail for starter; the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Shrimp Caprese Dip for share; 2 pieces of Fresh Dayboat Scallops Elote with a glass of white wine and the Sea bass with mango salsa with a glass of red wine; and the Macadamia Nut Brownie (I know, that's A LOT). The sliders are wonderful, I can imagine having a standard of them for a meal. The meat of the Wagyu one is very tender and I would say it was made medium, which most people prefer. The cod one is very crunchy and flavorful. The sauce is a bit spicy or maybe too spicy for somebody so beware or that. The Bang Bang Shrimp is crunchy and hot and full of flavor. I'm not a big fan of the sauce because it's sweet but I heard many of my friends said they love their Bang Bang Shrimp so probably it's just my personal flavor is different. However, the Shrimp Caprese Dip is my favorite dish overall. It acutally taste like fondue with shrimp and tomatoes. The bread is soft and it is perfect to dip the cheese. The Fresh Dayboat Scallops Elote is 50/50. The scallops are tendered and delicious but the corn and sauce underneath the scallops are too spicy and the sauce is just weird. We asked the chef what was it made with and it was a list so I can't tell you all the ingredients but there are peppers and matcha. The Sea bass with Mango Salsa, first of all, it's Sea Bass, you don't even have to put a thing on it and girll it and it will still taste marvelous. So did the Mango Salsa ruin this flavorful protein? NOT AT ALL! The chef did a really good job on making the salsa as less complex as a salsa could be to keep the original taste of the sea bass. With some mashed potato under the sea bass, this dish is just prefect! The Macadamia Nut Brownie is warm and delicious, and everybody on my table loved it. I prefer very rich dark chocolate so it's too sweet for me but people who has a sweet tooth will love this brownie. It also comes with a vanilla ice cream so it's like you're having a bite of this warm brownie and at the same time you're having some ice cream. The staff are very friendly and helpful, both the chefs and the servers are very informative and introduced all the dishes for us, I will definitely come back with my family and friends and try something else! read more

Came to celebrate my mom's birthday! Had to call to make the reservation since our party was so big , there was a few complications on our end which I had to call the establishment to update them and they were patient and accommodating. The front host was very kind and welcoming. The bartender, spoke very encouraging words of affirmations to my mom when he found out it was her bday which I found sooo very refreshing, she definitely appreciated the kind encouraging words ! And our waiter Rocky.. was the best ! Outstanding.. exquisite and very attentive to our large party.. Rocky was very educated on the menu, a people person, fast, and fun to be hosted by. Our experience was very great. The customer service from everybody we encountered was 10/10.. I'm not sure I've ever been in an establishment where EVERYBODY even those not serving us was nice and friendly . The food was fast and good and everyone enjoyed their meals. My one and only critique for the decor are the plethora of fish paintings. I also don't like how my party was seated adjacent to the restrooms when there were a horde of free tables that weren't in the splash zone. My food...trash. I expected something cute sine the wait was long. I ordered the gnocchi. The flavors were mute. I added some salt and lemon juice and that liven it some.it barely helped I also don't understand why there were a boat ton of green peas in the dish. Very unnecessary. THE PORTION SIZE WAS TINY!!!!! In the past when you ordered a rainbow trout you got a lovely fish as a whole and nice presentation! This time the fish was unrecognizable, came as flat as a sheet! I suggest if you like it a certain to have it cooked a temperature down. My steak was seared a little too much for my liking. The potatoes au gratain weren't that impressive either. My first and last visit was last night mother's day 2024. I had a $100.00 gift certificate from my kids and reservations which we waited 30 minutes past and I was excited to have lobster and steak. We were there almost 3 hours as aa comedy of errors unfolded. Wrong order delivered to the table so another wait to correct this. The steak was dry with no flavor and not cooked medium well like I ordered and the lobster tale also no flavor and cold. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant and they run out of asparagus and substituted broccoli. The shrimp was overcooked and rubbery. Nothing except the bread come to the table hot and nothing else even tasted good. They tried to fix things but each exchange tasted as bad as the first. I wasn't the only person there who experienced this problem. One group that come in about the same time didn't even get their food until closing time and they put it in a to go box for them to take home, a bad, expensive dining experience. read more

I ordered a Apple martini as I have in the past from there (same bartender.)When it arrived, it was a red..apple martinis are usually green. I've had delicious apple martinis here and from the same bartender, the waiter (the waxed mustache guy)replied we didn't have any pucker so we didn't make it. This is a red apple martini. I didn't ask for that I felt he should've informed me before he served me the drink. Did not taste like any apple I've eaten. I asked to replace it with a dirty martini. Which he did.He seem to have gotten a tad of an attitude about it.When we got my codfish, it was dried out,hard as a rock to cut,edges burnt like it had been sitting under heat lamp to long.I could not even eat it. I've been here a few times and given their variety of well prepared dishes along with their consistent and excellent service has earned 4.5 in my eyes. My recent visit was a typical Saturday night dinner with friends. Our waitress Caroline took very good care of us, making sure we were happy with our food and experience throughout the evening. From the delicious table bread to the well seasoned bang bang shrimp in my tacos (very generously sized) to the very satisfying Jen's Jamaican coconut pie- it was a perfect night. I am also very impressed with their selection of signature cocktails. I've yet to be disappointed. Tonight I had the Hawaiian orchid martini but in the past the espresso martini is also a winner. Really good chain! And since it's a chain, no detailed review. It's in the area next to Sam's Club on VB Blvd. Very dimly lit, there's a bar area, booths, and tables. Very busy on the weekends but you can make small reservations online. It still doesn't guarantee seats immediately even with a reservation though. You'll probably still wait 10-15 mins (weekends.) Food is great! If you're a first timer, I always and highly recommend the Bang Bang Shrimp. Other seafood entrees are good too. Most recently, I had the Sirloin & Crab cake dinner for $20, it came with 2 sides. The steak was perfect!l, crab-cake really good too! Service has always been great. Pricing is what you'd expect for a seafood restaurant. Drinks are a tad expensive. We usually dine here on Wednesdays ($6 Bang Bang Shrimp when you dine in.) We had a fantastic dinner on a Friday night. The best compliment I can say is that our family completely forgot we were eating in a chain restaurant. Even though the restaurant was almost full, the service was spectacular. The GM and his management team were on the floor assisting in every task needed. Everyone moved with purpose with no standing around. We had a mix of dishes from Ahi Tuna Steak, Lily's Chicken, Kung Pao Monkfish, and Thermidor Gnocchi.
