We purchased a beautiful harlequin dane from this breeder for $1,800. Several months after receiving our puppy he started showing aggression towards my children and my wife for no apparent reason. We reached out to Bond Acres multiple times over the course of several months looking for advice and/or possible treatments. Eventually she told us that we should return the puppy to them so that they could work with him to figure out the issue and then re-home him with another family without young children..... or possibly give him back to us once she figured out the root cause of the issue.
Let me just clarify that there was not some traumatic event that took place in our home, nor was our puppy mistreated. He was showered with love and was with our family all day every day. Let me also clarify that this was not our first puppy. It was our first dane, but we have had multiple puppies in the past, and have never had an issue with aggression. Because Bond Acres requires that you sign a contract that you cannot re-home them on your own, and you must return them to her, we followed those guidelines and returned him hoping that she would be able to find a great home for him. I drove to Twin Falls to meet her and drop off Ranger. At that drop off, I told her that I would really like Ranger back, if at all possible, but I was trusting her to get to the bottom of his aggression issues because she assured us that she would.
After having our puppy back in her possession for about four weeks, she told my wife that he was being aggressive towards her and her family as well. She did not know what the issue was, and in my opinion, she did not spend much time trying to find out. She took him out of our environment were he was the only dog and placed him into another environment with multiple other dane's and a brand new family (still with young kids). She sent my wife a message stating that she was going to take him to her vet to inquire about neutering him early to see if that would have an impact on his behavior. She said she would keep us up to date on the decision. The next message we received from her stated that they had made the decision to put him down. NOT NEUTER HIM, PUT HIM DOWN!! Obviously we were shocked as she had not mentioned this to us a single time! TO BE HONEST, I would not have returned him to her if I thought she would possibly put him down!
Since she has him put down, I have reached out multiple times in an attempt to get this situation made right. We are now without a puppy, and without our $1,800, and she could care less! Her responses have been "the aggression that Ranger was experiencing was due to something that happened in your home and it is your fault!", "I have never experienced aggression in any of my other dane's, so this is definitely not a genetic defect, which means i do not owe you another puppy", "I do not owe you anything, it was your decision to return him to me and you are lucky that I kept in contact with you"....... Essentially she has blamed us for his aggression when she has no reason (or proof) of that being that case. She has also stated that because it "is our fault", there is no way that this is a genetic issue, so she does not owe us a dime. She has gone on and on about how she saved us potential vet or ER bills and that she did us a favor. All things that never happened! It is all B.S.!
In my opinion this is not a way to run a business, and at the end of the day, this is a business. Blaming my family for something that did not happen in order to save yourself from making the situation right is horrible. She has now refused to do anything for us to make the situation right and we are left without our dog and our money. I would warn anyone that is considering doing business with this breeder. She could care less about any situation that may arise and only cares about making money! I would hate for anyone else to be put in this situation, so be careful doing business with her.
And again, rather than trying to make this right, she has now blocked me and threatened me with her lawyer...... Very professional! read more
