We're always on the hunt for great banh mi sandwiches in the area, and this was my favorite so far. I got the grilled pork banh mi that came on a very chewy, thin baguette (perfect). There was a generous portion of pork, a good ratio of carrot and daikon, and a delicious hoisin mayonnaise with jalapeños. I didn't get to try the chicken pho, but next time I will have to sample! The food isn't amazing, it's just okay, but workers are really nice and the place is clean. The sandwich is much better than the bowl, in my experience ($15 either way plus tax). The rice was a little dry and proteins in the bowl weren't very hot. The sandwich was really good though, hit the spot. The Thai iced tea was very very very mild flavor, so disappointing and I would not recommend trying that. This is fast casual so the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. The bowl that my husband and I got tasted amazing! The service was good however it seemed as if they were not knowledgeable if I was able to have bulgogi in my bowl. I ordered the Spicy Grilled Pork Banh Mi and I thought the pork itself was interesting as I feel like it typically is pretty thick cut whereas the pork here had more of a bulgogi texture. Nice spot for quick lunch, i got bowl with pork and beef, you could choose two sauce to go with it. i picked house (with sauce sauce) and peanut sauce. i I think the house save is better to pair with the protein picked. A fast casual Vietnamese shop with a very friendly staff, a clean bathroom, and convenient outdoor seating for the times we live in. My guest and I had a tofu rice bowl and a chicken Banh mi. Both were loaded with fresh, but plain vegetables, and appropriately spicy and subtle proteins. For me, the food did the job. I tried also the Vietnamese iced coffee, but it was overpowered by whatever syrup they use to flavor it. Saw this place on DoorDash and thought I'd try it since Vietnamese places are rare around here and it had been ages since I had Banh Mi. I had the one with Vietnamese sausage, which was pretty large and good (liked the bread as well) and also ordered the fried pork dumplings (tasty) and spring roll (small and just ok). Comes with two dressings - so I chose chili mayo dressing and cilantro lime. The meat was delicious. The spicy pork had kick but not too much heat and it was nicely complex in flavor. The carrot slaw was delicious and the veggies were all crisp and fresh. The dressings were both tasty and they mixed well together. I couldn't have enjoyed that bowl more. My friend got the pho and loved it. It looked delicious too. They had drinks available in dispensers that looked enticing but but unfortunately none were sugar free so I had to pass and opt for bottled water. We've ordered delivery from this spot several times over the past few years and they are consistent every time, which means they're packaged well. Delivery is also super fast, which I appreciate when doing last minute orders while being super hungry. I like that you can customize each sandwich easily as well, and appreciate that they offer greens in place of cilantro. The bread is always perfectly crusty. My one negative is that the price has been steadily increasing which is a huge bummer - in the delivery apps it's a difference of $1.50+ per sandwich since the end of 2023. However, I was skeptical at first when placing my order. I judged wrong! First off, Bon Banh has a great dining space. The clean indoor/outdoor, high-ceiling, eating area is perfect for that fast/casual/healthy vibe. I also like that the menu is limited which gives the staff the chance to make everything freshly and keep up with the ordering. I've visited three times, tried the Banh Mi, the tacos, and summer rolls. I would say the summer rolls with shrimp + peanut dipping sauce would be my favorite here. A personal note, the flavors stand up on their own, so for me, skipping the jalapeno and the sriracha mayo made my most recent visit the best one. The bread is crisp but not too hard, has a good chewiness to it and they partially hollow it out so the filling doesn't get as messy as some other places. The cheeseburger vietnamese style tasted like a Shake Shack burger with a kick to it. Really good. The blt was well made but not something I would reorder. I've ordered from this place many times before and never had an issue. The only thing I've ordered specifically was the Rice Bowl. There were a handful of times where the chicken was inconsistent, but nonetheless it was edible. This time however (1/22/2023) I had a TERRIBLE experience. After ordering pickup, I was expecting the usual: jasmine rice with the choice of meat and vegetables. However after taking the first bite I quickly realized that the rice included in the bowl was NOT real rice. I couldn't even finish eating it because every bite tasted so different from the last dozen times I've ordered from this place. I eat jasmine rice nearly 3 times a day from endless restaurants (and home cooking) and I know what it's supposed to taste like. The bowl I received today however was absolutely non-edible and felt like I was eating paper. It became clear to me that this restaurant is cutting corners and has multiple times, but I let it slide the past few orders since I figured it might've been "old" food from that day, but this was just completely unacceptable. But including microwavable rice instead of cooking fresh jasmine rice is a new low, and they have lost a consistent customer in me. Stay away from their rice bowls! Yikes. Look, I can appreciate the difference between fast food and restaurant food. Yes Chipotle is not the same as Charritos. But the fast food option should come close to the restaurant version. I like the idea of this spot, and while the ingredients are there, it's a far cry from a quality banh mi. Years ago in NYC, there was a now defunct (thanks COVID!) fast food banh mi place called Num Pang which was absolutely glorious. A hands down 5 star banh mi and this was from a fast food place! Bon banh, on the other hand, is like the Subway of banh mi sandwiches. Just a sad, bland, and tasteless approximation of what it should be.
