I personally ordered a chicken tikka masala and an equivalent with prawn. I absolutely loved the latter -- the prawns were fresh, and the sauce was appropriately velvety. Everything else, ranging from the naans to the starters were great too. Service was good, though not phenomenal. I felt that the waiter could have been a bit more personable and that the dishes could have been served more promptly. Ambience was simple and practical. We were sat on the lower floor, and it was good to have relative quiet and opportunity to chat with one another.
The worst curry I've ever had…read more It's very difficult to make curry bland, but unfortunately for me Kahn's flavouring could only be described as mediocre at best. The food was expensive for what it was and the vegetable's were obviously mainly frozen. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive and when it did we discovered two of our dishes were missing - in their place were 2 items which I'm glad I didn't originally order, as it looked like cat food. We called back and in fairness the guy on the phone was apologetic. However, we were not offered any sort of a discount or any additional items by way of apologising for the cock up. Worst still when the 2 missing dishes finally arrived the delivery guy sheepishly asked for the two incorrect (cat food) dishes back. They were going to go in the bin anyway, but I found myself thinking WTF were they going to do with them...surely in terms of health and hygiene they wouldn't give them to another customer?! But, judging by the service and quality of the food it wouldn't surprise me if they did - even the delivery guy looked embarrassed! In short, if you're a person who only eats frozen ready meals you may think the food (but not the price) are ok. If you've eaten a curry before don't bother with this one, it's grim and if you do prepare yourself for a massive disappointment.

Okay, so I have lived in the area for just shy of two years, you would think that I would have…read moretried this place. Sad but true, I went in for the first time last weekend - for shame! I don't even know where to begin... So it's Saturday night, and we've missed "dinner time", but we're both hungry. Didn't fancy ordering in so I suggested we taking a jaunt down to this curry house that I walk past everyday (yes, I know it's bad.) I had been told it was good so I thought what the hey, lets give it a go. Please note that my partner in crime is a huge curry fan, so this was a test of mega proportions. Our order ran as follows: Starter - Poppadoms and chutney / onion salad / dips. Main - Fairly spicy Lamb Madras & Lamb Jalfrezi Bread - Keema Naan Rice - Basmati rice Vegetable - Daal Saag Drinks - Wine and Cobra Never guess how much it came to? Go on one guess... forty quid! I KNOW!!! And not only was the price good, the food is fantastic and the portions substantial. As I'm writing this, I suddenly realised that you might actually want to go there now, hmmm. Just so you know, it's a teeny tiny restaurant, maybe seats only 20 people, but, don't panic the large percentage of their business is take-away (that's how they started), in fact when we arrived about 9pm on Saturday the owner told us that he had had already made about 80 deliveries! They open at 5pm - crickey! Here some inside info for you, the owner also told me that in the summer they will be opening a new roof terrace! Granted you are still in Brixton but there is nothing like eating al fresco. However if I don't get a table, I'm coming after you. ;o)

Probably the best Nepalese food in South London!…read more Unlike many Indian restaurants, Saffron doesn't have an extensive menu with every possible variation on the theme of curry. The menu is brief and to the point, with a few dozen main dishes and a handful of starters and sides, so you know that time and care is taken over the preparation of each one. There's a few curry house favourites here for the unadventurous (Rogan Josh, Chicken Korma) but come here for the unusual Nepalese dishes like the fiery Chicken Everest or Kathmandu Lamb. The head chef is Hitkaji Gurung, formerly of the Bombay Bicycle Club, and he takes his food very seriously indeed. All the spices are ground on the premises and the kitchen is open to the counter so you can see what's going on. And they don't use any artificial colours or preservatives - no MSG or luridly-coloured sauces here! It's not the cheapest takeout in the world (main dishes start at about £7) but you pay for quality. There's 10% off for collection and every order comes with a free poppadom and tub of mango chutney.

One of the accolades for which this curry house feels pride in her glorious journey is "The Lifetime Achievement Award 2016" - a curry industry-benchmark based-special recognition bestowed by "The British Curry Awards" through an annual gala event & televised live by BBC in the UK. As a food critic what really astonished me ( and whet my appetite after taking taste of two signature main dishes named 'Rajeshwari' & 'Lamb Tarkatan') was uncompromising food quality standard retained by this cuisine for decades while consistently meeting the needs of "connoisseurs" of Indian curries. Affluent fine selection of wines available here will definitely make the "gastronomic" dining experience a memorable one for all.
My landlord recommended that I go here, and as an annual visitor to India, I trusted his advice,…read morebut sadly, although good, it didn't live up to the rave reviews, and I think there are better options in the area. It's a "traditional" english curry house - all linen table cloths, flock wallpaper, faded pictures, and the feeling that it never has, nor ever will change. I like this aspect of the place - it's a refreshing change from the super-trendy new era Indian restaurants with their obligatory plasma screen, shiny surfaces and fusion cuisine. However, in these establishments, the service is usually impeccably polite and attentive - in this place is was not, and rather veered on disinterested. The food was also a let-down. I had an uninspired and almost bland tikka masala, and my friend an equally boring bhuna. Perhaps, the new-style Indian houses have ruined my taste buds for more traditional UK curry house-fare, or perhaps this one simply doesn't make the cut. Either way, I will always favour others over this one - especially as the prices are unnecessarily high.

From what I know of traditional South Indian cooking, it also was pretty authentic. From many Indian dining experiences in San Francisco and Los Angeles, where Indian is quite standard, I'd say this compares with what I'm used to in terms of deliciousness :) I liked the interior, which felt both trendy and laid-back at the same time. The location's nice, right near the Peckham Rye station. Service was friendly and I was given extra hot peppers to accompany my meal at no extra cost. The only drawback, for me, are the prices, which seem to be on the high side. Of course, since we aren't in Kerala, we can't get an entire, delicious, gigantic meal for under £5. We're in London, so prices are higher. But this place would be more of a gem if it's prices were a little more appealing.
