Bodo's is bae. I don't consider myself a broke-a** college student anymore, but if I did I would hit up this CVille institution on the reg. And by reg I mean breakfast and lunch. I'd probably schedule all my classes around this place, too. On my most recent trip, I stuffed myself during lunch time, for only $6.56! I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which included a sausage patty, egg crepe, and muenster cheese all in-between an everything bagel ($3.50), as well as as basic bagel with cream cheese schmear ($2.05). Bodo's bagels consist of a soft, chewy texture to them. (I like.) Supposedly, they taste very New York-y, and if that's the case then I love NYC. Something that caught me off guard is their cream cheese - it almost completely melted when I received it. Not sure if it's supposed to be that way, but ended up licking my fingers at the end. Bodo's has several locations in Richmond. Our guys went to the nearest one on a Friday morning near campus and there was a line out the door. So they went to the next closest one and found no waiting and Lots of variety. Ordered a dozen bagels, two containers of cream cheese and a half dozen eggy cheesy bagel sandwiches. A Charlottesville institution that needs no introduction, Bodo's bagels is a great place for a cheap bite to eat for breakfast or lunch. They have recently reopened all of their walk in locations (masks are required). The menu has an overwhelming amount of choices with endless combinations. The bagels are perfectly chewy and served warm, fresh out of the oven. I highly recommend the pastrami on an everything bagel: it is mouthwateringly delicious. This time around, I got a deli egg with sprouts, cheddar, tomato, and lettuce. The deli egg is a classic Bodos egg, but with pockets of cheese and pastrami. Bodo's is a UVA tradition! New York haters will say the bagels aren't even good, but you can tell them to go home to their crowded city and wait outside in the dirty trash water streets for two hours for lox. It's also a great (sober)brunch/lunch choice if you want to get a turkey sandwich on a bagel with lettuce, tomato, sprouts, etc. If you want to go wild you can even sub your typical cheese for cream cheese. I heard Bodo's makes good bagels and I needed to pick up breakfast for the next day so I swung by this location. I got there right before closing (~2:45pm) and it was still very busy. We waited in a long line on New Years Day (bless their hearts for even working) but the line goes by quickly because they have a good system in place. We ordered two egg sandwiches - sausage egg and cheese on an everything bagel; bacon egg cheese and avocado on an everything bagel. The girl who took my order accidentally put in my order as "hummus" instead of avocado. I wasn't in the mood to eat hummus for breakfast so I took it back to the counter to see if they'd be willing to remake it. They actually took care of it really quickly, so kudos to them. The sandwiches were very good. The bagels aren't too salty and have the right amount of chewiness. I usually like my bagels toasted but they said they don't toast bagels. Still, the bagels were warm! OVERALL: this place is so good and so cheap, line is long but it's moves quickly so don't be alarmed I came here on a weekend trip to Charlottesville and I was not disappointed. Who doesn't love Bodo's?? The bagels are fast, affordable, and still incredibly tasty. Service is always friendly and quick, and there is plenty of seating. Bagels to-go are also a popular option, and they are wrapped up nicely. You can't go wrong with a bagel with butter or cream cheese, but the sandwiches are a great deal (mostly under $2-3) and the sides are great as well. Soups begin serving at 9AM, which is great news for any early risers!! While I love the bagels, the real hidden gem is the house-made seltzer water. BUT the line can get pretty long on weekends and usually mornings (breakfast and brunch). I'm a really simple gal so I usually get Egg, Sausage, and Cheddar on plain bagel.
