The tamales are fabulous! I recommend ordering tacos or tamales, as I found the enchiladas, etc. a bit greasy for my taste. The plain bean and cheese taco is probably my favorite. This is a 4 and not lower, because of the TAMALES!! They're definitely the best thing there! If you go there for a normal meal, don't expect the same deliciousness that you get on a take out order of their famous tamales. It is pretty standard, hole in the wall, tex-mex food. Okay, I've been to plenty of Mexican Diners, like most Texans. This one's pretty good. The chips were thick and hearty. They didn't break apart when you dipped them into the homemade salsa. The waitress was very friendly, attentive, and gave us a discount for it being my sister's fourth 29th birthday. The gentleman waiting on us was also very friendly. I loved their tea. Can't beat a good ol' glass of Luzianne, and it even tasted good in a red plastic cup which is usually a thumbs down for me. But the cups weren't gigantic, so that was okay. My brother had fajitas, he ate everything on his plate. I tried some of his ranchero beans, and although they weren't MY cup of tea, he liked them. I thought them a tad greasy tasting but that's just me, I don't eat meat so it may have been the fact where were huge chunks of bacon in the beans. My sister had a meal that she loved. She fawned over everything on her plate. I had nachos and they were good. Not the best I have had, but still very good. There was nothing about this meal that was unsatisfactory. The kitschy building and decorations, airy and upbeat waiters makes this place fun. It's an old building, okay. The bathroom was very clean but old - that doesn't bother me but some of you out there might misinterpret old as "dirty". It definitely wasn't. Dudes have to go outside for their bathroom needs. Nom nom nom. This place was packed. It was lunch time on a Saturday. The staff was super friendly. Food was cheap and delicious, maybe I'm just too jaded by NYC prices, but lunch and beers for 5 of us came to $53. (sweeet) Every kind of meat taco was delicious. Delicious! The tortillas were so fresh and soft and awesome. tacos came with a plethora of hot sauce, which was flavorful and had just the right amount of kick. Pancakes were also delicious. The only downside? I was shocked at how far down the quality of food has fallen at this establishment. I used to drive across the county for their tacos, but not anymore. Stopped by today to order two breakfast tacos, chorizo and egg + bacon egg and cheese. Bob's claims everything is made from scratch, which I guess would explain the 20 minute wait for 2 tacos. When I finally received my food, it was room temp, cheese not melted, tortillas on both tacos were burnt (as other reviewers have mentioned with their orders); the chorizo was bland and flavorless, and the worst part was the eggs, which were DRY and hard. Outstanding food and the kind of place that is truly a "Dive" that relishes its status. I wasn't even sure I had come to the right place because it looked dilapidated! I drove by Bob's Taco Station every day on my way to work... always wondering how the food tasted. they are always packed... no place to park. That is usually an indication of how good the food is. Packed parking lots don't lie. So far I have tried the Carne Guisada, chicken fajita and fish tacos and they were all great. So after living in Sugar Land TX for about 10 years and always hearing about this place and of course like everyone else seeing it on the Triple D it was time. I woke up Thursday morning and was on FB and saw their special of the day~2 chicken & cheese enchilada's & beans all for $4.99. Well this was simply a sign from the Tex Mex Gods above to make the 9 mile haul into Rosenberg and finally see what all this Bob's talk was about. After passing tons of Lil taquerias and Mexican restaurants I arrive at this very small structure tucked away(actually almost passed it up)with very few parking spots I squeezed my my gas guzzling Expedition into the compact cars spot(who says it's not possible) and prepared to go in to this hidden mecca... Upon entering Bob's from the side street I was not sure what to do,seat ourselves or wait. I then noticed tucked away over in the corner was a counter but then saw it was for Togo orders. Finally a server said for us to sit anywhere. So we did and I proceeded to take a look around at all the cool little signs and license plates etc...The server took our drink order and returned promptly. Its usually at this time that most Mexican restaurants bring you the standard basket of chips and salsa so we wait...and wait...and wait...noticing other people with said chips & salsa, where was ours??? We ask and finally receive but why did I have to ask? Should that not be automatic? The chips were awesome and actually my favorite type and that is thin and salty. The salsa was great as well with roasted peppers and slightly smokey,sweet and chunky and we devoured a few bowls of that The place was maybe half full at this time and looked to have maybe four servers that seemed to be running around quite a bit which starts to worry me but let's just wait and see shall we... As I said earlier that what brought me here was the special of the day so of course that's what I ordered and subbed out borracho beans instead of refried and added onions upon request. The place is still about half full and I can see the food backing up in the expo window and looks to be a manager type person trying to run food and assist servers where possible. Our food starts to arrive and looks amazing. The chicken and cheese enchiladas had layers of gooey cheese and hearty portions of rice and beans. I couldn't wait to taste what looked to be a delicious serving of tex Mex cuisine and again for $4.99. The cheese alone had to be half the cost :) I always tend to go back~asswards when I eat, tasting the sides first then the main item. I am a big borracho bean fan and these were quite tasty. Anything with big chunks of bacon in it you can't go wrong. The rice was cooked nicely with decent flavor. Now for the good stuff~or so I thought....Upon my first bite I thought to myself,"self" damn! thats alot of cheese and normally that is not a problem but this was actually a little overpowering. I cant actually believe those words are coming out of my mouth but there I said it!!! Then I discovered this distinct flavor on my pallot but could not pin point it. I continued to chow because I was quite hungry and then it hit me....My brain and my buds went back to my younger years. Back to the years ot Patio Tv dinners and that was it! That was the flavor that I knew I recoginzed from all the microwaveable cheesy goodness I used to eat.Oh how I loved those things....But now with my "uh~Hmm" distinguished palate this was not good. I mean even @ $4.99 thats an expensive Tv dinner. I proceeded to eat and yes I cleaned my plate but as I stated I was hungry folks and was not going th send back. My overall experience was the same as many that I have read and I ask the same...What's all the "Hype"??? Again this was my first time here and I am much closer than some folks that have Yelped so I will probably give it another shot and try maybe the tamales or breakfast tacos,those seem to be pretty popular. They are actually known for thier snoballs but that part of the place was closed. It had the look of a little dive which was cool. I drive by this place when I go eat at the Vietnamese place across the street and am always tempted to try it but I didn't go until a friend recommended it. I called in an order for tamales, tacos, and tortilla soup. The wait is at least 30 min for all orders in restaurant or over the phone. When I arrived I tried out their snow balls (located outside). So delicious, cash only for sno balls. soft snow cones various flavors and you can add condensed milk or paprika spices for extra kick. Then I went back inside to pick up my order. When I got home and ate it...everything was amazing. The tamales had a lot of meat inside and the tortilla soup was salty but so good. One of the best I've ever had. I'll def be back. This is the second time this has happened and the third time of being disappointed at this place with their call in order service. It's like "what's the point of calling in ahead." Finally had a chance to check out Bob's on a recent trip to visit the family. We have our usual favorites in Rosenberg and for whatever reason never really gave Bob's a shot in the past. I have to say...I'm glad we went, but I still don't exactly know what all the hype is about. As a starter, the waiter brought out the Mexican Restaurant staple - chips & salsa. Their chips are thin, crispy and tasty. The salsa was a bit outside the norm, apparently made with roasted peppers or tomatoes, giving it a smoky taste with just a background hint of sweetness. Very good start to the meal. I got a combo plate that included a taco, enchilada, tamale, rice & beans. Everything on it was perfectly acceptable and actually quite good. But nothing really stood out. The taco was a bit on the soggy side, though the meat was very well seasoned. The enchilada was standard corn tortilla + american (or similar) style cheese with a decently rich sauce/gravy on top. The tamale was probably the standout on the plate. As has been mentioned previously, the masa to filling ratio leans heavily to the filling side making it taste very meaty. We ended up ordering an extra dozen before leaving to bring back with us to Austin! Mmmm...leftovers :) After lunch, we decided to try Bob's snoballs / snocones. My wife and I shared a Tiger Blood with cream and it was very good! Probably the closest thing to real Hawaiian shave ice I've had in Texas, but no one can seem to get it as smooth as they do on the islands. There were still some icy / crunchy bits, but overall it had a very good texture and held the flavorings very well. My mother got a root beer flavored one and my father a sugar free grape...both we also good, but the Tiger Blood + cream combo was definitely my favorite. If you're in Rosenberg for any reason, I'd definitely recommend a stop at Bob's Taco Station, but as someone who eats Mexican / Tex-Mex food very often, I have to say that I was a little disappointed. A friend of mine had went to the place after watching the show and said that the food was alright, but nothing special so my expectations weren't too high. Since I was doing some work in Rosenberg, I decided to stop by. Ordered at noon, egg and potato taco on corn, barbacoa on flour and 2 pork tamales. By far, the best part of the meal was the pork tamales. Warm when came out, stuffed with plenty of meat, very moist, not too much corn meal, a bit greasy with some spice, definitely with some kick to it. Better than other tamales I've eaten in Houston. However, the egg taco was disappointing. Granted it was late in the afternoon, but our order took 20 min to come out so I'd figure they were cooking fresh. My eggs tasted dryed out, like they were sitting outside for some time. What I get for ordering breakfast tacos late in the daytime. Barbacoa tasted more watery than I'm used to. Guess I'm more used to the overpowering juicy greasiness of Laredo Taqueria's barbacoa tacos. Overall, a bit bland on the barbacoa meat, but okay nonetheless. Flour tortilla I rate a plus, nice thick tortillas. I prefer some spicy salsa over my tacos, and the one they serve here are while okay, could use some more kick. My co-worker who came with me asked for the spicier sauce, and she said that they didn't serve any, but asked if we wanted jalapenos. I guess they don't have any salsa verde here. Overall, I'd come back for the pork tamales, for the sake that they were some of the better tamales I've had in a while, and I'll try some of their other tacos when I'm in the area. Saturday night we watched Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and saw how they make real homemade Tamales. So Sunday morning we drove to Rosenberg to see for ourselves and check them out. It was great. I got the Triple D platter and Ann got the Mexican plate plus a couple tamales. Everything was so good. We bought 3 dozen tamales to bring home and share with our family.
