Love the staff here, excellent selection of IPA beers. Craft beers are shockingly overpriced ($12 per pint), but they do have a huge variety to peruse. Irish whiskeys are lacking, as are flavored cocktail type ingredients. Gets the job done though. read more

The barkeep at Strike Brewing Co directed me towards Bobby's Liquor to find some great local sours. Sure enough, they carried 10 or so Almanac selections, a local brewery known for its sour brews. The lady behind the counter (owner?) was very helpful. She directed me towards the Almanac section. For such a small store, Bobby's is packed full of inventory. Grabbed two 4-packs of beer. They both had price tags - $14.99 and $16.99. Went to the counter and both were rung up at $21.99. I asked why they were so expensive, and why both were the same price when the tags varied. The cashier said "oh that's the tax, and I gave you the lower price for both" and I was like huh? and then the transaction was complete. I looked at my receipt afterwards and the total for BOTH beers was $21.99 x2 BEFORE tax, with $4.02 tax added. So I just spent $48.20 on TWO FOUR PACKS. The beer was great, but I am never going back to this place. Stop misleading people with your labeling, stop lying to customers when they check out. Way too expensive. read more

Having been here a few times now, I can attest to the solid craft beer selection and the rated 18+ materials readily available in this liquor store. Granted it's weird to me that they have a 18+ section when they're in a plaza that already has two dedicated stores ... but I guess I am not here to judge on anything they sell other than great beer. For the most part the prices are fair, they're not amazingly cheap but once in a while you will find some good deals. What they do have is a rare selection of some beers that you will be hard pressed to find at most BevMos let along any other liquor store. Their selection of the Eclipse beer series, for example, is astonishing. It will, of course, set you back $40 a bottle at times but it's so worth it! After work I came by Bobby's to see if they had any Desheutes Black Butte Porter, walked in guy behind the counter says what's up and I'm off to look through the selections of beer. Just walking past a couple of the fridge doors I could see that this place not only had a lot of beer but they had a lot of REALLY good beers! I'm looking through their stock and the guy behind the counter asks if I need help, I say "Yes." and he proceeds to show me what's available, what he likes, what I'd probably like and what they'd probably be ordering next! They didn't have the Deschutes but he said they'd place and order but that visit I'd gotten the following: 6 pack of Deschutes Obsidian Stout 1 Pliny 1 Raven Eye Imperial Stout 1 Hop in the Dark 1 40oz of St Ides 2nd visit 2 6 packs of Obsidian 1 Sierra Nevada 30 Anniversary Stout 1 4 pack of Old Rasputin Imperial Stout There is one beer I'm missing from that second visit and I can't remember it right now, one day I'll learn to write things down right away so i don't forget what I pick up. Finally a place to pick up some good beers in the south bay. Nirmal (I believe the father of Dee the buyer) contaced me via Yelp indicating they had some good local beers. Head in there and they have fresh Pliny and Sculpin among many others. Other breweries were North Coast, Stone, Green Flash, Eel River, Lagunitas, Moylan's, Bear Republic, Rogue, Unibroue, Lost Abbey, Allagash, Deschutes, Napa Smith, Drakes, Flying Dog, Grand Teton and Dogfish Head. Prices were reasonable - the Sculpin was under $10 for the bomber and the PtE was just under $5. Back in November I threw my husband a surprise party in which I wanted to get a keg. I had originally intended to keg a standard size keg of Rolling Rock from another shop in Cupertino. I called ahead to order it a week before the event. When I went confirm it the day before, they told me that they had never received my order. When I asked them if I could get a similar beer their response was, "I'm sorry, we only carry good beer." How off putting?! I was in a scramble after that to find a place that could supply on such short notice. Enter Bobby's. They are kind and gracious with none of the beer snob nonsense that I encountered at the other shop. They have an excellent selection and knowledgable, friendly staff willing to help you find what you are looking for. I ordered another keg from them two weeks ago for a going away party. Holy S**T, this is the best F**king liquor store I have ever made a purchase from, and I've never even been there. The story begins with my girlfriend making a business trip to San Jose. As a Chicagoan with a soft-spot for great beer my brain immediately started spinning, thinking of Russian River and Alesmith brews. A quick glance of my favorite review site (ie YELP!!), led me to Bobby's. It is at this point that I spoke with Dee. Hands down the most badass, helpful person that has ever helped me make a purchase. Any purchase. Over the course of phone calls and emails, Dee helped me create a list of awesome beers, including some very hard-to-find selections and ensured that they would make the long haul back to Illinois. Run of the mill neighborhood liquor store with a MICROBREW GOLD MINE. Never seen or heard anything like it. Cannot put into words the bottle selection on hand...and refrigerated! I was mesmerized standing there. The owner Dee had to check on me a couple times just to make sure I was okay. Stone, Bear Republic, Russian River, Lost Abbey, Alesmith...saying "the list goes on" is an understatement. Props to Dee who works there. You can tell that he is passionate about great brews (and crazy enough to stock his place with so much good stuff!). But being a beer geek I struck gold once I saw his collection of beer in the back corner. By far Dee has the best selection of craft and hard to come by imported beers in the south bay. I was please to find some FiftyFifty eclipse 20 yr barrel aged stout yum! And many other things I usually can't find else where. This is coming from someone who does the beer buying for Whole Foods. Dee has great product knowledge and obviously has a passion for beer, the service is great but I'm sure this place can get packed being in a small location. At first it seems like your typical shady liquor store adjacent to an adult products establishment, but after stepping past the Playboys and Hustlers (who reads those anymore anyway?), rows of eclectic brews clamor high along the fridge and on the shelves. I have found some incredible, delectable beers here that you absolutely won't spot in a Bevmo or a grocery store. Sours, barrel-aged beers, and a suite of other unique treasures. Some notable favorites: - Almanac sours - Prairie Artisan Ales (Prairie Bomb! is great) - Anchorage Brewing - The Bruery - Russian River beers (Supplication and Consecration!) - Pliny the Elder (occasionally in stock -- be a good customer and you'll get treated well in return) There are constantly new beers rotating in, giving good reason to stop by every other week -- up until the point the beer gut kicks in and your loved ones start to show concern. Buyer contacted me via Yelp to get me to come by and check out their selection. Hard to find place in a Santa Clara strip mall. Great beer selection(quality not quantity) for such a small place. Most of the beers you can find at a bevmo, but there's a few hard to find gems here(Ale Smith/Russian River). Beer fridges are separated by style(IPA, Stout, Belgian, English, etc) As other yelpers have mentioned, the buyer is usually around to chit chat and talk beer with you. Very friendly and helpful. Went here yesterday and to my surprise, they had Ale Smith. It's SO hard to find up here. Unfortunately they were out of the Ale Smith IPA which is my favorite right now. Ale Smith X is great too...and they had a few bottles of that. I picked up a bottle of Ale Smith X, Ale Smith Jul4 Ale, and Avery Maharaja Imp IPA. Prices for bombers are comparable to Bevmo...maybe a little more but not a lot. Not many liquor stores around here have this many beer choices. read more

Love this place. Hiding in the back of what looks like a random little liquor store is a stellar beer selection. I always make a stop here on every trip into San Jose to stash some local beers into my hotel room fridge. No fridge? No problem, I still stop by; that's what the bathroom sink and ice machine are for :) They always have a ton of big IPAs from Knee Deep, plenty of Russian River, and even stuff from my hometown Chicago. And for the recent 1 star review regarding Pliny the Elder, it's because you are just cold-calling bottle shops looking for one beer. Last time I was there, checking out with a handful of bottles off the shelf, they asked me if I wanted them to grab a bottle me a Pliny from the back. First of all, if you are looking for a wide selection for hard to find beers and beers which are no longer generally available or hard to find (I.e. year or older such as SN 30th Anniversary and North Coast Barrel Aged Old Rasputin), this is the place. I haven't bumped into Dee, but they have always been friendly as far as service. I still go to BevMo for beers from Stone, BallastPoint, etc. which are more readily available and will tend to be $1-2 per bomber cheaper. Working in Santa Clara, and need to fill my head with something awesome, after a rough day. Driving down El Camino I see a sign, " Liquor." So stoked, cause I know I'm close to happiness. Probably one of best things about this place is THE GREAT BEER SELECTION. Now don't be turned away from the size of this place, its got a lot of bad ass things. If that's not enough, a great selection of hard alcohol. I would have to say 40 + different types of tequila, shit I didn't know they made so many good ones. Oh the best part, they've got kegs. What a great hole in the wall find! Of course I never would have found it had my best friend, Yelp, not clued me in. It's got a great selection of beer, tons of big old bombers! Wine and other liquor selection are all above average, but I go there for the fancy beer! Prices are good too for the beers the offer, but good beer is never cheap! This hidden gem is in a dicey looking older dirty strip mall with a couple Asian restaurants, a porn store, and I *think* a "massage parlor" if you catch my drift. Not much parking, but they do have an actual parking lot off the main road and there is almost always at least one spot up front open. Staff are nice and willing to help, but some are more knowledgeable that others. Overall, it's one of the best beer stores in the San jose area I have yet to find and certainly my favorite and my go to for fancy and delicious beer. If it is distributed in CA, then Bobby's has it...or had it. to be honest, I am a bit reluctant to write this review because I would hate to see my favorite beers start being bought up, but I really need to share this info for those looking for some tasty beers/liquor/wine. The place is quite cramped, but it is chock full of all the high-end and low-end beers, spirits, wines, and even champagne. If you cannot find exactly what you are looking for, talk with the purchaser, Dee, and he will at least steer you in the right direction. Although you may be able to find some of the offerings elsewhere for less money, this is definitely a one-stop shop. This place is an unexpected diamond in the rough for craft beer lovers. Given the abundance of excellent brewers in Northern California, there is a relative dearth of places selling individual craft beers, especially on the peninsula. My husband found this place after looking around extensively for my favorite beer, Avery's Maharaja IPA. They didn't have it in stock when we first went there as it's a seasonal beer, but I'm happy to say they have it in stock today! It's in a slightly shady little strip mall and the store itself is tiny and filled with various bottles of liquor and porn. There are, however, about 5 stand up coolers and a few shelves of an excellent variety of beer. You can see the care the guy makes when selecting his beers. I can't believe there isn't an entire store dedicated to this selection. Bevmo doesn't count because they don't stock 12oz bottles and their staff has little to zero knowledge in the beers they stock. If you don't might the drive and the seediness, this is an excellent location to try a variety of exciting local craft beers. Hopefully this guy will be able to expand in the future and have an even larger selection. read more

Pretty decent selection, honestly was expecting a bit more. The store was pretty small, I honestly have to wonder if they actually have "500+ craft beers" like their store front says. But they do have a good amount to offer. I found a couple of interesting things to try here. What bothered me more was the cashier working at the time.
