Decided to try out this place for the first time and was horribly disappointed. I asked the guy up front if they could make a green apple black tea to which he replied yes. I waited 20 mins in an incredibly loud lobby. Was this place packed? No. It was a single table in the corner filled with screaming teenagers. Another worker, a girl this time, calls my name and proceeds to tell me that they are out of boba. She offered another topping but I didn't want ice cream or custard in my tea. Normally I would've just taken the loss but after paying almost $8 I got an extremely watered down black tea with a whisper of the sweetener. No boba and definitely not delicious. Drinks here were okay. I stopped in here for the first time tonight and was greeted quickly by a nice lady. I got a regular sized half taro half coconut no caffeine and half sweet. It was around $3.50 total so not bad at all. The drink arrived quickly but was still WAY too sweet. I asked another lady if it was in fact half sweet and she had the lady remake it. When she served it she loudly said "I didn't add any sugar this time". It was okay. It was chalky like the drink mixes weren't dissolved properly and it was still too sweet to me so I'm assuming their mixes are heavily sweetened (so seriously why add extra sugar, but hey that is just me). It wasn't terrible but not my favorite. The boba were perfect texture and they didn't add too much ice which was nice. This is the second time I visit bobalicious and I'm really impressed by their friendliness and very fast service. I got in the store and there were a good 5-6 people ahead of me. I expected to be there for a good 10-15 mins. I was out within 5 minutes. They're friendly, nice workers and fast service. Their drinks are tasty and food price as well. Their have a variety of drinks such as teas, smoothies, slushes etc and some food. Their boba seemed fresh and taste good too!! I just love this place. I've loved it since I was in high school and walking over after school. My go to is the lychee slush or mango slush. I like the monthly specials they have, not sure when that started but it's always fun trying new specials. Right now are the December specials and I really like the strawberry cheesecake. It tastes EXACTLY how it sounds. I think my absolute favorite special was the pikachu from over the summer. I think I ended up getting it almost every other day. Pleasantly surprised by this location. I've seen it many times in the Target/ BabysRUs plaza.. but it didn't have anything appealing from the outside to call me in. It's an older plaza so the businesses have a little older and more run down feel to them. Inside was stylish, simple, cozy. Grabbed a milk tea and a chrysanthemum milk tea. Milk tea was on point. Actually one of the better ones I've had. Chrysanthemum had the flavor but was definitely on the high sweet end. Bobalicious/ Square bar has been through its phases over the years and this latest one just isn't it... the last two times I went in, they were out of boba. Bobalicious out of boba.. lol anyway they don't use sealed lids anymore which kinda sucks. The milk tea here is not that great despite the average 4 star rating you see on Yelp. I ordered the taro milk tea, and it was lacking in flavor. It was watered down that you couldn't taste much of the tea or the taro. The boba itself didn't taste fresh at all. This is a little neighborhood boba place that has affordable drinks. It's 3-3.50 for a regular size and only .75 to make it a large. Ordering is pretty painless, they didn't have the flavor I wanted so I had to choose lemon instead. The lemon smoothie was fine, pretty sweet & sour at the same time. The friends I accompanied are regulars and mentioned this place recently had a facelift and I have to say, it's working for them. A group of friends and I went to Bobalicious in Mira Mesa after a savory lunch, and though it wasn't exceptionally hot outside, this treat was super refreshing and it really hit the spot. I'm not too adventurous when it comes to boba, and I still actually prefer my teas sans boba. But I would definitely revisit this spot if I'm ever in the area because I felt that the milk tea here was especially smooth and sweet. Also, service was spot on--even though there were people ordering and sitting in the café, our drinks were ready really quickly so we could be on our way in no time. Here's what my friends and I ordered: "Milk Tea": This is pretty much my go-to from any boba or tea place just because it tends to be a safe option. I really enjoyed the milk tea from this place in particular because it felt that it was especially smooth and silky; I finished my drink so quickly! I went with my usual and ordered my tea without the boba, but I didn't really feel like spending extra time chewing those tapioca balls and just wanted to enjoy my cool drink instead. "Thai Tea": This is the drink one of my friends got, but I got to try some of his. I think the color of Thai tea always repulses me (it's orange) but the flavor is always really good once I start sipping it. I don't feel like this tea is as sweet as my milk tea--and my friend always gets his with boba--but I enjoyed what I tasted of it anyway and would recommend it if you want something refreshing, but not as sweet as some of the other tea options. "Chocolate" Drinks: There are so many drink flavors to choose from on the Bobalicious menu; it was a bit overwhelming during my first visit. But, since I do love chocolate, I would want to try some kind of chocolate drink from here at some point--whether it's hot or cold--just to see what it tastes like. "Iced Coffee": I definitely prefer iced coffee to hot coffee when the weather is warm outside, so I was contemplating ordering this, but I decided to save trying the iced coffee on another visit. However, based on my experience with the milk tea, I would definitely want to try this drink and I'm pretty sure I would enjoy it. "Vietnamese Coffee": Our other friend ordered the same milk tea as me, but she said the "Vietnamese Coffee" from here was really good as well. I would want to try the iced version of this drink sometime, since my experiences with Vietnamese coffee have always been really refreshing and the taste isn't too strong. "Cappuccino Milk Tea": I really enjoyed the milk tea at this place, so I would definitely want to try this cappuccino version at some point. Bobalicious sets itself apart with it's finely blended drinks and cheap prices! Every visit here I've gotten the Jackfruit Smoothie and I've also ordered the Lychee Slush. The texture of the Jackfruit Smoothie is so fine and smooth, with good Jackfruit flavor that isn't too artificial and boba that is sweet and chewy. I'd pass on the Lychee Slush, as I found it to be icy and was left with unflavored ice and a good portion of boba half way into my drink. I love the fine texture of the smoothies here, it makes drinking so much easier (#firstworldproblems) and reminiscent of a shaved snow dessert that instantly melt in your mouth. The bobaristas here are never of the friendly variety as many have stated. It seems to be the trend in most boba places I've frequented so whatevs. I usually get the peach smoothie. The boba is always soft and the consistency, thick, which is my preference. Get yours blended with ice cream if you want a richer boba drink. If you're craving something savory, they sell nachos, popcorn chicken and other fattening fare at cheap prices. I've been coming to this same boba spot since middle school (approx 8 years ago until now) and have seen it evolve to what it is now. They've been doing constant remodels year after year and I'm so happy to see what it has become permanently this year. From lime green walls and colorful couches, to breaking down the wall and combining the store of a yogurtlicious and bobalicious together, from yogurtlicious not doing well and them becoming a bahn mi place, from the bahn mi place closing down and having a large vacant space, from them patching up the wall to what it is again, and then remodeling everything to what it looks today. IVE SEEN IT ALL FOLKS. But the level of service has never changed and the drinks as well. I'm pretty much a regular when it comes to this place and come here all the time with friends just to chill. Drinks: (these are the drinks I have tried and loved) Cookies & Creme: a crowd favorite, very creamy and sweet with Oreo chunks to satisfy the sweet tooth, probably my favorite drink on the menu. Green apple smoothie: so bombbbb. Tastes like a green apple jolly rancher so it can be sweet and sour but mostly sweet. Strawberry banana smoothie: pretty basic drink but really good in flavor. Beats walking to robeks and spending 4-5 bucks for the same drink. Peaches and Creme: really good ! If you like peaches you're in for a treat. 50/50 Orange Creme: also really sweet. Tastes like oranges mixed with vanilla. Totally recommend too. These are some of the drinks I usually get at bobalicious and recommend 100% if you are a indecisive person. Boba is free of charge but if you wanna mix more things in it will be extra. The food is also really good too. Their popcorn chicken is loved by high schoolers and their curly fries as well. Didn't have any cash on me so I left. Second time was with my girlfriend on 03/04/2011. She loves boba and we had just left Target so we dropped by for a quick drink. I got the strawberry milk tea and she got the taro milk tea (we love taro milk tea). Personally, I plain out didn't like either drinks. The strawberry milk tea was extremely tart-y and it tasted like watery yogurt that has been sitting around for a little while. I had to plug my nose to take the second sip of the drink. I ended up throwing away an almost full cup of this strawberry milk tea. I decided to start drinking my girlfriend's taro milk tea because mine was in the trash and gone forever (thank God!) The taro milk tea tasted extremely diluted with water or something. It was a little gritty (which is normal for natural taro milk tea) but was really bland. I would compare it to how soda tastes like after all the ice has melted.
