Went to the resturant around 6 PM on Monday night. The resturant has a lot of personality and from the moment we arrived (4 of us) we felt welcome and at home. The hotess and bartender were awesome and took care of us. We were in pretty good mood already and Mr. Mody (spelling), the manager I think, took care of us the moment we sat down. He spent time with us to discuss the menu and we kidded around with him and he took it well and could dish it out to. It was basically a great time. Now the important thing, the food was excellent and they have the best Chicken Cacciatore and my crab cake was great. they have a full bar and craft beer. I wasn't sure what to expect after having gone past this place a couple of times on a sightseeing trolley tour, but the food was amazing and our server, JT made sure our experience was just as good. Located in what was formerly a cotton warehouse there is a touch of history as well. I had seen She Crab soup on many menus around Savannah so I decided to give it a try and I may just have a new favorite soup. It was super rich and flavorful; the perfect setup to the stuffed shrimp entree, which was every bit as flavorful. I was devastated when they told me they were out of creme brulee, so I finished off my meal with a slice of the tangy key lime pie while my husband had the decadent and rich, flourless chocolate torte. This has been my mother's favorite spot In Savannah for decades. She now has great difficult with mobility. We went on a quick trip to River Street to watch the container ships and enjoy the views. One thing lead to another and we opted to go to the Boars Head. The wife went in and explained to the hostess the mobility issues and the entire restaurant went into action. One man brought out a set of ramps two other gentleman came down to the cobblestones to assist. We were able to get mom to the table. Alyssa, our waitress, helpful, knowledgeable, and served with a smile. We had several different entrees that were well prepared. The She Crab Soup and Grilled BBQ Shrimp have always been my favorite. When it was time to go the staff quickly and smoothly assisted in getting Mom back to the cobblestones and in her chair. Nothing will ever replace the tears in Mom's eyes as she looked around the Tavern thinking about the good times had there. Thanks for helping to create new memories. read more

I might've just ordered the wrong meal, but I was very disappointed with my dinner here. I ordered the stuffed shrimp which is served over angel hair pasta and what they described as "a lemon butter sauce". I was imagining it would taste like shrimp scampi sauce. Unfortunately it just tasted like butter. And a LOT of it. My boyfriend ordered the chicken piccata and had the same complaint. I'm wondering if the other meals are better because this place has decent reviews. If you go, I would steer clear of the stuffed shrimp and chicken piccata. We were looking for a good local restaurant experience and found a great one. The menu, while modest in selections, was excellent. First, I had a martini which was well crafted. My wife had the she crab soup which she loved. The tuna wantons were also very good. My wife had the fried shrimp and raved about them and the sauce. I had the steak and crab cakes. Then she just stayed at the end of the bar laughing / bitching with a couple of the other staff and after another 5 minutes she decided to drag her ass over and ask for my order. Asked what they had on tap and she rolled her eyes. Like what the heck? Got my beer in a to go cup, texted my friend that I was waiting for that we should meet somewhere else since it was obvious we weren't going to get service. Paid and took off. I have mixed feelings. Husband loves this spot - especially the shrimp and grits. Drinks have also been excellent. They have a spinach and chicken salad with Gorgonzola that's enjoyable. But some menu items seem slightly off. I was excited for stuffed shrimp but it lacked flavor. And the asparagus was undercooked and bland. Wait staff are good and the building itself is really neat imo. read more

Our group of four had a great experience here on a busy Friday nights. The service was on point. My low country bouillabaisse was tasty with chunks of white fish and salmon that were not over cooked. My friends and I arrived on a Sunday evening and asked for a table for 10 thinking it would be a bit of a wait, but they were actually able to get us seated pretty quickly! Once we were settled, our server came over to take our drink orders and told us about some of the menu items to try. So many items on the menu looked good, but I was already feeling so gross from eating so much the day before, so I opted to order a spinach salad with grilled chicken. Others at the table ordered pasta dishes, steak dishes and even some sandwiches so we had lots of variety on the table when the food did arrive. They also brought over some warm bread with butter...and we obviously kept asking for more because we love bread! Our server was nice and made sure we had everything we needed including drink refills and utensils. My salad was really good and just the right amount of spinach and chicken. The dressing was a light vinaigrette and had just the right amount of sweetness too. Asking around, everyone at the table seemed to enjoy their meals. When it was time to order dessert, a few people ordered the creme brûlée which looked really good by the time it was delivered. Some said it was really good and others said it was just okay. I didn't try any so I can't give my opinion. But it did look good. Overall, this was a great spot for a drink and a nice meal. It was warm and comforting inside and the service was good. This competes with the New England origins--it is very much the look of a tavern. This building was built in the 1750s and has witnessed many things as it steeped in our history. By American standards, this is almost as old as it gets. It has the allure and scars to prove it. The atmosphere is immersive. Service was courteous and prompt. Everything that my party of five tried was fantastic. It was Ann all around five star experience for what I expected, and what it cost. I'm left with only one question. My hubby and I stopped in for New Year's Eve lunch while enjoying the day. Let me start by saying our waiter was wonderful. He was extremely polite and efficient. I ordered a crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was not hand formed but appeared to be a smooth frozen patty. It was a bit small and served on a tasteless small hamburger roll. My hubby got the blackened fish sandwich. It was quite the opposite of mine. The fish was very thick and tasty. We were seated at a corner table in the side section. The ambience is nice but a bit dark in our corner. We kept seeing that it was the oldest in Savannah, and it's in this amazing looking old building on the river - but the inside did not live up to the hype. I'm so happy I reserved dinner at Boar's Head for a fun start to our weekend in Savannah. The food was really good. My salmon was tasty, perhaps a bit too smothered with the tasty peach BBQ but you won't find me complaining! The cheddar grits were just perfect, and it also came with some tasty asparagus. I also enjoyed a small mixed greens salad and bread before my entree. The whipped butter was something else. My boyfriend loved his burger and I enjoyed trying some of the homemade steak sauce. He loved his drink but I did not try it - it would likely have been sweeter than my taste. Service was phenomenal - quick, super friendly, everything timed perfectly. Big props to our waiter, Kevin. Started with a Georgia Peach Cooler. Peach vodka, lemonade, cranberry and sprite. Split a cup of She crab soup. I got the stuffed shrimp with crabmeat. Wife got Low Country Shrimp and Grits, shrimp and Andouille sausage with red peppers in Cajun butter. Creamy cheddar cheese grits. That Cajun sauce made the grits pop. We got 2 desserts chocolate breading pudding and Jack Daniels Pecan pie. Both are over rated. I preferred the bread pudding of the two. The Pecan pie was served cool with some whipped cream. To many nuts, seemed like the all nuts just a little filler. The Bread pudding was to much chocolate, that was the over powering taste. We heard great things. Went and ordered filet mignon and seafood pasta. We were near cooking area in about hour saw filet under heat lamps. About half hour later talked to waiter and he said another 10-15 minutes and that was out filet under heat lamp. They also dropped sauce on floor and splashed up side of coat and shirt. They did help clean it up. We ended up leaving as who would want a meal sitting under heat lamps for 45 minutes and it was most expensive thing on menu. We ended up at another resturant. They were familiar with boarshead and said they have seen food left under heat lamps for period of time before. Our boarshead waiter seemed nice and said he got seafood order wrong and had to put it in again. We got at resturant at 5:15 and left at 7 with no meal. read more
