Great ambiance, and awesome staff! The sandwiches are pretty good esp. the chk. salad and curry tuna. its a nice place to hang out with friends and study, or just grab a cup of coffee. The coffee isnt as good as Radinas but its ok. The entrees of pasta is definitly hit or miss, as was stated in the prior reviews, all depends on who the cook is. The sandwhiches with the ciabatta bread I generally get the wheat nut brear just cuz the bread is so thick and generally just because of the bread itself i get full. I have to say my most favorite thing there is the salads. As for the breakfast burritos and quiche I dont think i would base my whole opinion on the place off of those; they arent the best, but those arent the only things they serve either. They dont serve any food items (ie sandwiches, pasta, pannini) past a certain time on sunday so if u come later on sunday the breakfast burritos and quiche and bakery items is the only stuff they will have. read more

Food is great and the employees are very nice. I would suggest the employees ask for a name to put on coffee cups when customers order coffee especially, when the restaurant is very busy and people are waiting around for a coffee drink. Mine and my friend's coffee drink were mistakenly taken by other customers and had to wait 25 minutes before we got our drinks since the employee had to make them again. read more

One morning back when I first arrived in Manhattan, KS, I found myself looking for a breakfast place. That's when I came across this place. I didn't stay to eat, but I told myself I would definitely come back, and I did. The first time I went there to eat, I had dessert: chocolate cake. It was quite dry and a little hard. The second time I went there, I ordered a pasta dish to go. My order was packed in a box and it also came with a piece of foccacia bread. Both the pasta and bread were delicious! I went back another time and ordered salad which was also delicious. My only qualms is that the portion is at times a bit on the measly side, but that's because they serve the kind of food that does make you want more. I guess for the price I'm paying, it's a fair deal. As far as the place itself, it's usually quite clean. I can usually find a place to sit. Otherwise, I'd get my food to go. In the summer, customers can sit outside. The utensils also looked pretty clean. I will go back to try other dishes on their menu. read more

But alas, this is a college town, and the experience was different. Nice spot, though. Lots of students, laptops, ipods, study groups, coffee consumption. I was there for dinner. This is a quaint, friendly, spacious coffee shop that doesn't offer much for vegans, but does have a pretty good chai. Actually, they have crappy Oregon chai, but then they also have an actual Indian black tea mix, which can be made with soy. Obviously go for the latter. Who knows, perhaps in the future they'll offer some simple vegan treats, or maybe even a tofu sandwich. read more

Why a 3 star, well ... because I went here twice on a short trip and the first experience was a 2, the second was a 3.5. I like that they offer a labeled paleo menu. Problem was, I went there for breakfast and there wasn't a paleo breakfast option. I ordered a smoothie instead, but that wasn't filling enough. The rest of their breakfast menu was pre-made and stored in the display case. I don't know if they make those themselves, but the pita pockets the rest of my party ordered were not that great. They just didn't look fresh or home made. It's just eggs and ingredients. It should look made by a person, not a machine (little perfectly round egg disks ... yuk). Then I went back for lunch to experience that paleo menu. I ordered the paleo chicken alfredo which is made with suash strings for the pasta and a coconut based alfredo sauce. It was good. Two things that can improve .. I ordered my lunch to go. The container they put it is was a standard doggies box and it leaked everywhere. Know your product and put that thing in a seal-able tub or something. Also, offer more of that squash spaghetti. There was plent of sauce, but I was wanting more to sop it up with. Other than that, this dish was really good, really innovative, and will probably bring me back to try the rest of the menu. Work on a paleo breakfast guys. The baristas here care about the customers. They go the extra mile to make sure that customers are appreciated and helped in a timely matter. Everytime I walk into Bluestem, all I see behind the counters are smiles. It really brightens up my day and makes me feel safe and wanted here. The products are also amazing. Their in-house bakery makes the most delicious scones, and not to mention the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. Their breakfast burritos, Mac & Cheese, and Steak Panini would be the perfect day. Their coffee is never burnt or flavorless. I am a huge fan of their "Around the World" brew. Varying from Guatemala to Congo to India they never cease to amaze me. I can always taste the hints of the other flavors and never get tired of drinking their coffee. The atmosphere of this place provides a unique place to study, chat, or read. They have a variety of seating and their patio is fantastic place to hang outside. I never bring headphones because of how much I like their music choices, coffeehouse to classic rock. Bluestem Bistro never ceases to amaze me. This has to be because of their amazing staff and all the hard work they do to make this place an icon to the Little Apple. Bluestem Bistro is a great, locally owned place and a hallmark of the Manhattan community. Food is fresh and all made from scratch. It also boasts the only legitimate bakery in town. Great place for showcasing local music and art. There is a meeting room that is free for the community to use for events, etc. You have to check this place out if you are from out of town or a long time Manhattan resident. Open daily until 11pm, this place is perfect for a chat with friends over a coffee or drink, work/study session, or comforting meal. While I haven't had any of the food, everything looks delicious, and I can attest that the baked goods (hint: cinnamon rolls) are quite tasty...they have microwaves if you want to heat up any of the bakery items. There are lots of unique drinks, both for coffee and non-coffee lovers alike. It wasn't too warm of a day on the particular occasion that I was there, though I wish it was nice enough to take advantage of the outdoor patio. We brought a cribbage board and easily passed the time for a few hours. If need be, they have a conference room available for meetings or group study sessions. This is by far my favorite coffee place in town. From the wide variety of beans to the ambience to the foam art, this place pays attention to detail. The atmosphere is unlike any other in town. It's lively, but cozy at the same time. It's an impeccable place to study (assuming you can get by an outlet) out to hang out. Live music on Sundays as well as plenty of other events through the week seem to keep bringing in new faces along with their loyal regulars. That's just the atmosphere. The Bistro has a wide assortment of dishes for neatly any pallet including a Paleo menu. You can never go wrong. The baristas are knowledgeable and super friendly. My husband heard about this place's Sunday brunch with live music. We decided to try it out on Fathers Day & was a bit disappointed. We arrived too early, which was my fault...I should have checked the times . We weren't sure how the place functioned, so we waited at the front door and when no one acknowledged us we figured it must be a sit yourself place. We sat and saw no one waiting on tables, then decided to ask if we order at the counter. Two of my sons ordered biscuits and gravy, which they enjoyed. I ordered the breakfast pita, it was pretty good, but took 15 mins to get and now I'm realizing they didn't give me the potatoes that are supposed to come with it. But there were a couple other deal breakers! My husband burrito was handed to him pre-made and cold. He had to heat it up himself in a microwave, his coffee was super slow to be made and we had to ask for plates, silverware, butter and jelly twice. This was not a great celebratory Fathers Day! I'm only giving 2 stars b/c my sons enjoyed their biscuits and gravy and my breakfast pita, although incomplete, was yummy. I don't know if we'll try this place again. read more

I've only been to this place twice on different occasions because I'm from Wichita, so I can't just pop in whenever I want but I was very pleased both times. The first time I was there for lunch I believe I had the Bacon Turkey melt which was very good. The second time I was in town I got the Almond Joy Latte and I haven't stopped talking about it since! It was excellently crafted and was way better than I expecting! I have asked for it at local coffee shops here in Wichita and they just don't compare! The layout is open and spacious and the baristas here are super friendly! The price is reasonable, but what you would expect from lost coffee shops. I will definitely recommend this place to the next person I hear headed to Manhattan! read more
