Juice bars are on the rise, and I have found a number of very good ones in Lucerne and Zurich so far. But Joe has very quickly become my top spot. All the drinks and juices I've had here, I don't think I've had better anywhere else. And the prices tend to be noticeably lower, too. Starbucks can keep it's overpriced, watery thing they call an Iced Latte from now on, they've got nothing on Joe. And his coffee shake is probably the pinnacle of cold, milky coffee drinks, with some coffee beans blendered in to top it off. A dream!
Apart from juices, smoothies, shots and shakes, Joe also offers great coffee, tasty and freshly prepared sandwiches, and more nourishing drinks with muesli that I imagine would work very well as a breakfast to go.
The location is a bit hidden, on the upper floor of the train station, and I hope that word of mouth will be able to compensate the reduced visibility of being tucked away up there, next to the railway ticket office. The decor is very nice and elegant, though. I like their image and design a lot. It's a very nice place to have a little break, and you have access to the balcony looking down on the railway platforms, if you fancy. All the staff I encountered so far were very friendly, glad to elaborate on the menu, and seemed genuinely motivated about working there.
Discovering Joe & the Juice was a very pleasant surprise, and I really can't think of anything to criticise. Two out of the four times I've visited so far, other customers made it a point to pass by the counter before they left, to tell staff how good it was. This is not at all a common thing in Switzerland, but that's how good Joe is. I recommend it wholeheartedly, and hope that the franchise will expand further and get to mix up the Swiss juice bar market a bit.
