I would not recommend this school to anyone who was planning on their 3+year old going there…read more If you want a daycare that masquerades as a Montessori school, this is it. They "follow the child" in a way that also doesn't help to guide, help, educate , or keep the child safe. After 6 months of our eldest being there, she said she was repeatedly being bullied by a child. I contacted the teachers, asked for help, and they said "it's normal childhood development." I said I would like them to keep an eye on it, they didn't. After more bullying, I talked to the bully's parents. They stated, the teachers had never even talked to them about his behaviors (You might be asking how do you fix something if you can't talk about it at home, the answer is you can't). The parents stepped in and it was better for a short time, but then he began to bully my younger child instead. The owner of the school, is too afraid of conflict, so she does not address bullying. She was completely unable to have a constructive conversation around a child's abusive behavior, AND she scares the other teachers away from those conversations as well. She also didn't address a random mom that frequently taught there, yelled at my 2 year old after the abusive 5 year old had lashed out towards my son. There is no reason a caregiver should yell at a two year old to the point of tears. I watched said 5 year old physically shoulder check, push down, and call my son mean names on the playground at various pick ups/drop offs. He also shamed him about being friends with his older sister and her friends that were girls, to the point of which he would not come into a woman's restroom with me (it was later determined the bully repeatedly called him a girl), my son was 2 years old, being bullied about gender is totally inappropriate. Yet, the school would not talk with me about a possible safety plan after all these incidents. The interaction with the mom "helper" (also friends with the bully's parents', below), was the last straw, despite family hardships we made it work without child care, rather than leaving our children in the unsafe environment with these people. I want to reiterate, I asked for a plan to help these kids at least 4 times, over the course of a year. I even offered to help find services to the other child's family. The owner gaslighted everyone involved, including her other staff members who had observed the situations. The other staff members confirmed that not only that the child was bullying, but that he was also stopping lessons for everyone in the class. The owner denied everything, until our exit interview, which she acknowledged the child was abusive and encouraging his younger brother to act in an abusive way as well. She had no plan to curb the behaviors. Do what you have to do for child care, but don't expect the helpful, safe, kind values they state. They can't uphold them.

The recent negative review/rant from an angry parent is simply not true and can be verified by many folks. Clearly this person is lashing out, possibly due to larger issues in their life, past and/or with their family. Personally attacking folks who invest 110% love and compassion into the community is innapropriate, borderline defamation and plain mean. Our family and friends Highly recommend Gardenview.

I think the plan is to put in a henhouse, too. It's really a little slice of paradise, and worth the short drive from town. The kids spend a lot of time outside, helping with the garden and caring for the rabbits, playing, going on "nature walks," and keeping an eye out for the mountain beaver that lives nearby. I wasn't specifically looking for a Montessori school when I found TMG, but it was the only place I looked at that had the right balance of curriculum versus free play--they make sure the kids are stimulated and constantly learning, but there is also plenty of space and time for the kids to learn through independent play. What struck me most initially was how wonderful the kids were--they were so gentle and concerned and helpful when my son was anxious about being at a new school. The respectful and caring dynamic at this school is really amazing. Deb, the proprietress/head teacher, is fantastic--the kids love her, she's firm but gentle, she's very in touch with how each kid is developing, and very knowledgeable about child development and Montessori methods. Marta is also Montessori-trained, teaches the kids Spanish, and is extremely warm and loving with the kids. Cara is there most of the day making the food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks--all organic, with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains--and spends time with the kids in the afternoons. All three are moms of grown kids. Deb's husband Andy and dog Winston are also around and are very popular with the kids, making the place feel like a family home. I can't say enough good things about this place. Highly, highly recommended.

Really struggled to find daycare for my young son when I lived in North Burnaby, and had to drive…read moreall over to get him back and forth to school, daycare, etc. K and behold, when I see there's daycare at the end of my street, I'm excited! Talk to the owner of the daycare a few times before we meet, and it's a bit hectic because spots fill exceptionally fast here, its so close to Nelson Elementary. Prices were very reasonable for before and after school care (I paid twice as much in North Burnaby for for less), and pro-D days are covered (unless there are strike days... Don't get me started). The space is divided between school aged kids on one side, and the younger ones on the other, so the toys and care are different. Huge space, large fenced back play area, support for homework, open and frequent communication... I'm thrilled with this daycare and hope to use it for many years to come.

There are many childcare options to choose from but Nido made the choice easy and our son has grown up from their Toddler class (less than 3 years old) through their Primary class (up to 5+ years old). Yes, the facilities are clean, bright, modern and open, both inside and out. Indeed, the food options (snack and lunch) are healthy and varied. But most importantly, the staff make the difference: - Multicultural staff with varied backgrounds being varied perspectives to the teaching and children. - The staff are native English speakers, which help when teaching language skills. - Continuous learning and professional development provide enhanced activities and education of the children. - The staff are keen, attentive, and patient with both parents and staff providing updates, stories of what's happened throughout each day, education on how to handle situations with children - all done in-person during drop-off and pick-up (or any time requested), and via an app called Seesaw. Their progressive approach to the staff and children's education, coupled with a low number of students per staff member make Nido easy to recommend for anyone looking for a partner in their young child's education!
